  • A vibrant world and the dangerous creatures who dare to love amidst the chaos
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 (bonus) 🌶🌶🌶🌶 /4 ** Spoiler alert if you haven't read book 1, but I'm keeping it spoiler free for book 2 parts** Welcome back to the world of light and dark that we first discovered in Helfyre, and get ready for our view of that world to expand and grow throughout book 2. We pick up right where we left off on a cliffhanger in book 1 and we get to see the aftermath of of the battle and Aheia's d3ath. As you might imagine... for immortal beings descended from gods.... d3ath isn't always as it seems. Where the first book introduced us to this new world and our main characters, this one really dives into the wider cast. We get multiple POVs from nearly all of our favorite found family members in Aljira, and through their eyes we get to learn about both them and the place and people Aheia has come to join. With the soul bargain broken in book 1, Ari and Aheia have to navigate what they mean to each other, and how they're going to move forward together in a world full of things keeping them apart. But this isn't a love story, not really. It's a series of internal battles to find out who they really are. We dive so deeply into Aheia in this book and get to really see the true darkness of her past. It's a hard story at times, but we get to see things through her eyes and hopefully that can give readers a better perspective on had topics like ab*se (both mental and physical), tr*uma, PT$D, memory blocks, tr*ggers, and a whole host of resulting mental health complications. Aheia has to learn to fight for herself. She has to choose to live, instead of just accept her existence. Her journey at times felt like someone had reached inside my chest to squeeze my heart, but seeing her evolution. Seeing her peel off the layers of shame and tr*uma one by one, and seeing Ari be whatever she needed him to be in order to help peel away those layers. That's what this story is. It's not a love story, it's a journey of becoming. That could have been it, it could have just been about them. But instead we also get the benefit of an extremely vibrant cast of other characters. From Kar's empathy to Luc & Tariq's inferno of a connection, to Shiron's secrets and on and on, I can't wait for this series to continue so that we can learn even more about these beings and everything they have to offer this world. Pick up Helfyre now and then dive right into Honey because this world is incredible. (But definitely read the trigger warnings first, Honey has even more than Helfyre) ... show more

  • I am looking forward to the next book because that cliffhanger be cliffhangering!
“She’d stop. She’d plug the walls with grout so nothing passed through because if she let herself feel this, it would consume her.”—‘Honey; Agía Sahnta Book 2’ by Mariel Pomeroy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This second installment of what is to be a trilogy surrounds a seemingly ordinary Mithra named Aheia and the demon collector of souls Arioch. Without giving anything away, essentially our main character runs away from her realm of light and descends into the dark where she seeks asylum in exchange for her soul. It is only through death that the truth then starts to come to light. The writing is just beautiful in the way that the author pulls you seamlessly through different realms and what feels like various dimensions. The beginning and end especially felt like a paint brush was being swept across my mind as this story was unfurled then folded back up again. As an indie author myself I am always down to support a fellow indie, but Mrs. Ma’am here DESERVES the hype and praise she receives. The imagery is stunning, the characters are literally all their own main character which I love because it makes them feel like fully realized individuals. The spicy scene do not hold back which I live for. There is also a very refreshing amount of representation for the alphabet mafia ✨ As for why I only gave ‘Honey’ four out of five stars, I felt like there was a lot trying to be worked in all at once while also having a tendency to be a little repetitive. Now with that said the repetitiveness is forgivable in the sense that it’s purpose, from what I gathered, was to illicit the emotions of the characters within the reader which I totally get. Another thing that pulled me out were more modern aspects being used, such as blue raspberry syrup and motorcycle-like machinery. It just felt out of place in my humble opinion. I am looking forward to the next book because that cliffhanger be cliffhangering! ... show more

  • Absolutely Perfect
I am not a book review person because I never feel like I found smart when I write them but I loved this book so much that I’m here. I found Helfyre a few months back and was so excited for Honey. I love smut. I love my smut dark and detailed. Please don’t give me the basics, give me an edge. Or edging. Overall, Mariel has a solid voice of her own and I love her style. And normally I devour books and the more filth, the faster I read them. But from the time I started it, I wanted to take my time with Honey. I didn’t want it to be over too quickly. I didn’t want to leave their world that Mariel has so vividly crafted. I truly love the combination of the dark romance, fantasy, absolutely fantastic and creative smut, queer representation, all combined with a whole lot of working through childhood trauma and the long-term impacts. I’ve been coming to the realization that both my brother and I have more trauma than I realized and we normalized a lot of things that are absolutely not normal. As I’ve been focusing on working through all of that, reading this book was what I needed. So thank you for the story I so wished I didn’t have to put down for now (although I may re-read…), the characters I wish I knew in real life, the smut I wish was my real life, all wrapped up in a few therapy sessions. ... show more
