Description

Meet a woman as tenacious as Elizabeth Strout’s Olive Kitteridge and as irresistible as Andrew Sean Greer’s Arthur Less: Honey Fasinga, the glamorous daughter of a notorious New Jersey mobster, is returning home at last, ready to reckon with her violent past.As a rebellious teenager, Honey managed to escape her father’s circle of influence and reinvent herself in a world of art and beauty, working for a high-end auction house in Los Angeles. Now in her twilight years, she decides to return home and unexpectedly falls in love. But in her family, nothing has changed. When her grandnephew Michael bursts into her life in what appears to be a drug-fueled frenzy, and her Lexus gets jacked, it’s hard to keep minding her own business. As old cruelties begin to resurface, Honey is no longer sure what she really wants—to forgive or to avenge. This electrifying literary breakout from PEN USA Award-winning author Victor Lodato is a masterful and deeply moving portrait of love in all its forms, of moral ambiguity, and of inspiring change—a story of female rage that asks the question: What are the limits of compassion in a world gone mad? • Unforgettable Protagonist
Honey, the octogenarian protagonist who drives this delicious and surprising new novel from one of my favorite authors, won't leave my head. Lodato mines her complicated, constantly self-contradicting history for all the humanity and humor he can find. Best of all, he centers this book on a mature woman with a mission, who is never passive, always hunting for solutions to her age-old aches and regrets. What a pleasure! ... show more

  • Couldn’t stop thinking about it….
Read an intriguing review in the Washington Post. So I added it to my next Amazon shipment. Cracked it open as I unpacked the box and came back to myself 10 minutes later. Still standing in my kitchen with open scissors in my hand. Utterly engaging and unique! I found myself thinking about the characters when I was doing other things throughout the day. Stayed up late to finish it and I’m not even slightly sorry about the sleep deprivation hitting me the next day. My husband is reading it now. He opened it, started reading and eventually surfaced to say “Wow! Outstanding opening.” ... show more

  • This will be a New York Times Best Seller! Treat yourself!
HONEY is a masterpiece. The first few pages alone are worth the price of the book. I laughed, I cried. I am 67, my daughter is 27. We both adored this book! Treat yourself! Victor Lodato is an extraordinary writer.

  • Great protagonist
I just finished Honey by Victor Lodato. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I enjoyed this story with an older protagonist for a change! It’s the mind of a conflicted woman whose entire life was to escape her father and family entrenched in violence. But has it really left her soul, thoughts actions? Really in-depth into her mind. This story is about Honey Fasinga, the glamorous daughter of a notorious New Jersey mobster, she is returning home at last, ready to reckon with her violent past. As a rebellious teenager, Honey managed to escape her father’s circle of influence and reinvent herself in a world of art and beauty, working for a high-end auction house in Los Angeles. • An unforgettable woman
One of my favorite novels so far this year, HONEY is the story of Honey Fasinga (nee Ilaria Fazzinga), who escaped suburban New Jersey and her mobster family in the 1950s and fled to the glamour and glitter of Manhattan and eventually Los Angeles, where she found excitement, wealth and romance and a love of fine art, working in high-end auction houses. But is blood thicker than water? Family is calling her back and as the book begins, Honey is facing her 83rd birthday, still vital and beautiful and shockingly sexual, and has returned to her New Jersey roots to live out her final days and confront her family's younger generations as well as the ghosts of those never forgotten bodies buried in her hometown. I was a huge fan of Victor Lodato's 2017 novel EDGAR AND LUCY and his new book doesn't disappoint. He really nails the pains as well as the joys of growing older and how we shed all the unnecessary things and focus on what really matters. Honey Fasinga is a character unlike any I've encountered before, a very particular unflinching independent woman who will stay with me for a long time. ... show more

  • Good Reading!
I thoroughly enjoyed HONEY. Well written, interesting and kept me turning the pages . The author has created a very fascinating character . And for someone with my life span she is an interesting older woman which is very hard to find in literature. Try HONEY, you will be pleasantly surprised !

  • One of the BEST books I have ever read
I loved Honey! This book was so engaging. All of the characters brought something vital to her story. I found myself staying up way too late to read and wanting to highlight the bits of wisdom throughout the book. I'm recommending this one to everyone I know and some will even be gifted the book because it's that good. The end was so perfect and made me start crying. Don't miss out on this one. ... show more
