My wife has been telling me for a while to get a small safe for my gun, as our toddler is getting to the age when he can open the drawers. I saw this at the house of a friend of mine, and decided to get one as well. It is very sturdy, well made and I especially like the biometric part.     • Pretty Secure Pick Resistant Gun Safe
This is a very well manufactured safe, made of high quality materials who's fit and finish is excellent. As a member of the lock sporting community (people who pick locks for fun) I can tell you that it's override key and cylinder (and master method of opening) is fairly pick resistant incorporating a small, 4 pin, tubular cylinder and key. it would take someone who knew what they were doing to get it open and that's not what this safe is trying to prevent. What the safe is made for is keeping children out, and on that level it should do a very nice job. the first time you open it you have to use the key, and never store the keys in the safe because if you do and the battery dies you are going to be learning lock picking. the nice set of instructions does warn you about this but I just wanted to call it out as well because I almost did it. So anyway, you open with the keys, put in the four AA batteries that come with it, and now you can program a pin and the fingerprint sensor. I would suggest doing both so that you have several backup methods. one cool thing about the fingerprint sensor, actually it's about the software involved, is that it can store up to 100 fingerprints which is pretty damn good considering most phones only hold about five. and the fingerprint sensor is not overly sensitive, pretty much if you have the right fingerprint and you place it on it it's going to open properly. The only way I could get it to malfunction was to hold my finger upside down or sideways to it. The pin works like pins do which is fine. It also comes with a USB cord to apply power if the battery dies and you've goofed up and put the keys in the safe or lost them. Overall this is a really good gun safe, or general purpose safe for that matter, for small things. But I really save my 5 Star rating for exceptional, outstanding above and beyond products. This one is almost there but not quite, but still highly recommended for the price. 4 Stars. ... show more

A very solid gun safe that I actually considered trying to destroy for testing purposes, but I like it too much and want to keep it. It looks like it can withstand a break in though, because even though the sides are plastic, the whole inside of the box is metal all the way around. It also comes with a strong braided steel cable to tie it down, and has two holes in the back with hardware for mounting to a wall, table or inside a drawer. The electronic portion of the safe works very well. Since it can hold so many fingerprints in its memory, I recorded my index finger in several different positions and I've never had it fail to open even a single time. I really appreciate the fingerprint mechanism because I just don't have room in my brain for more passwords or codes, and I doubt I'd remember it anyway in a situation where I needed a gun. There is a key in case the electronics fail, and if you have a dead battery AND you can't find the key, you can still open the safe. There is a USB-C port on the side that will power the internal electronics so you can use your code/fingerprint. I think it goes without saying that you can put other valuables in here, not just guns, but one other thing I appreciate about this safe is the way the door opens. It doesn't fly open like it's spring loaded, and it doesn't just sit there needing two hands to open. It opens smoothly and at a medium speed, just enough to be out of the way as you reach in. If I had a complaint, and this is minor, it would be about the brightness. The inner light is not nearly as bright as in the ads, but the control panel lights ARE pretty bright. In a dark room, the outer lights actually make it harder to see inside the box as they shine directly in your eyes. I found myself shielding my eyes as I reached into the safe which is not ideal if you are trying to preserve your night vision. Overall, excellent safe. ... show more
