I love this winder. It is all metal except for the portion the yarn winds onto. Very quiet to operate. Be warned there are no instructions included for assembly.

The media could not be loaded. The package does not come with instructions but I was able to put it together by looking up other yarn winders on YouTube. I’ve already made several cakes using this and am happy with the results. Some assembly tips: It’s important that the both metal arms have the end of the swirl facing the same direction, otherwise the yarn will fall out. You attach the small metal arm to the brown rectangle under the cone and the screw is inserted from the bottom. (I think it comes with an extra arm and screws just in case you misplace them) The cone should twist in place into the base. I hope my video is helpful. ... show more

This is a very jerky ball winder. The parts continually loosen while winding. Also, it is very loud and there is a metal part on the bottom of the arm that sits on the table top. Now the top of my table has many scratches and gouges.

This yarn Winder works very well especially for the price you’re paying. I think it’s very equal to Starwood Yarn Winder. It’s a decent size, easy to use, pretty quiet overall I think it’s really good deal for the price you’re paying.

The yarn winder works perfectly, and it's very easy to use. Setting it up took seconds even without assembly instructions. Using the winder is simple and easy. I've seen some complaints about the lack of an instruction manual, but you really do not need one. The only disappointment is the scissors. They don't cut anything even after attempting to sharpen them. If I had thought about it, I would have purchased the winder that came with the yarn guide, but I came up with a much less expensive workaround.
