  • Solid, Stout, High Quality Straps
These straps are high quality, wider-than standard, with good buckles. Well protected so that they don't scratch your car or your board. Among the higher end of similar products like this that I've used. It can be a bit tricky to find where to press on the buckle to get it to open, with the rubber protection but it is well worth the peace of mind. One reviewer mentions that the pads are on the smaller side, but they are equivalent to similar racks in this class. For example, the Ho Stevie is a bit shorter. Look at the picture showing all the dimensions to check that it works with your board. I have not had issues putting bigger boards on this length, including a 9'6" longboard. Cannot comment on a SUP. Overall, this is a great solution that will work for your daily short-ish surf commute. I would recommend dedicated roof racks if you're going to be traveling an hour on the highway everyday, but I don't believe that's what these were made for. Portable and can be used on any car. ... show more

  • Better than homemade
I had seen these listed before and was thinking how much time they would save me if I was able to carry my boards to and from the launch site already inflated. I usually arrive about an hour before kayak friends are launching just because I need to inflate my board especially if I'm going with someone who is borrowing one of my other iSuPs. I may have a 12v pump but it only inflates so fast and will need a break when there's more than 2 boards to inflate. Plus the boards take up space in the hatch that carrying them already inflated on the roof frees up so much time and space. I had considered trying to do this with pool noodles and ratchet straps since I have so much experience using the ratchet straps for the roof top cargo container when I did long distance trips. But pool noodles deteriorate after one season in the sun. I will say this would work better if I ever do get the side rails added to my car because tightening through the doors eventually is rough and can tear the rubber gasket. It also means you have straps going through the head space of front and back seats. I do like that the clasps are covered with silicone in case they touch the car exterior. But I did find the clasps to be a bit difficult to open which is probably good for while driving but takes quite a bit of hand strength to open which may get better after more use. Still not sure it's as secure as a ratchet strap for the tension. I like the padding and that these come in a carry case but wish they had included velcro bands for storage instead of 2 small rubber bands for the straps while folded in the case. Overall, this is useful and will save time and space as noted above but could use some improvements for storage and tension control. ... show more

  • used them for skis
Fit well on our VW taos. Just open the doors and put the straps around the roof and use the clamp to tighten the straps. I used them for skis and it worked well but we didn't get up to Interstate speeds, we got up to maybe 55 and they held well. They are not as good as roof cross bars but these are more portable/packable and work pretty good. They are soft and foamy so they dont scratch the car or the skis. Pretty good product for temporary use but it would not be my first choice for everyday use because i think it might damage the door seals eventually. ... show more

  • Easy to attach
This rack attached fairly easy to my 2018 Jeep Cherokee. I was afraid that my car would be scratched, but I think since I already have the side racks on each side of the roof, definitely helps. I was able to attach 2 very long paddle boards securely. However, I do not trust this rack enough to drive on the highway with them and that is the only way to get there. Bummer. ... show more

  • Works great
I’m using these on my little Mazda2 for quick trips to the surf. Not really that quick as I live an hour away from the beach but so far so good and I haven’t lost my board yet. Build quality is really good and this is a cheap alternative before buying a rack.

  • Great quality, versatile, easy to use, good value for money
Like the title says, this appears to be a nice quality made padding protection to carry boards for your roof. I tried to get my creative thinking hat on and figure out a way to use this on tailgate as a pad for surboard to lay across, rather than just putting a towel or something, but ultimately abandoned the idea because I couldn't get it to work (it was also cold and my hands started to go numb, so I quit). Like others have mentioned this can also make for a great 'travel rack', in the sense it's compact and doesn't require vehicle modification to work properly. So in theory (or practically) one could leave their precious surfboards at home, travel to a destination with these packed in the luggage, and then brave the task of renting a surfboard and putting it on the car with little to no fear of causing damage to either the rented surfboard or rented car, aka these can nice to travel and open up possibilities. Good value for the money if you think how much it costs to travel (fly) with boards. Overall, great idea, works pretty good, not sure I'd trust a super long road trip (not necessarily what they are made for or claim to do), but it'd probably be fine. The instructions tell you to check after first 5 mins of driving then every 30 mins thereafter. So, I'll reiterate these aren't a long haul solution, unless you want to consantly pull over and check, or just pray your surfboard doesn't fly off your roof. Install time at first takes a bit longer, but after you get the hang of it, it's pretty quick 5-10 mins if that. The silicone covered buckles are definitely a nice touch. The pad is nice a dense. The only major downside really is that the pad is rather slim (length wise I measured pretty much 1 foot of 'usable space' the base is longer as you can see in the stock photos and pictures), other than that, can't complain. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. ... show more

  • High quality
I got this rack to hold down my surfboards. You can tell just by opening the box just how high of quality they are. They hold down my surfboards great and I love them. I totally recommend.
