  • Solid
Works great. Recommend a reusable sleeve to cover the edge. I will have to make one when my grandkids come visit. We print baby warding on the sides of 5gal pails, this is Essential.

  • Works as expected, great log splitting idea.
For the ease of use I give it 5 stars, and would recommend that you do screw the base to something as it will reduce the chance of knocking it over when splitting larger, more awkwardly shaped logs…

  • Easy kindling splitter
This is a safe way to split kindling. Better than a trip to the ER

  • I hated it until I figured it out.
Like a lot of folks have posted here, it sucks right out of the box, and it won't work unless you fasten it to a big old splitting log. When I first got it, I had it sitting on the cement floor of my garage and it just bounced around. It sat in there for a year or so because it just wouldn't split wood. Then, I took another look at it and figured I would try to see if it was user error. Spoiler alert. It was. I screwed it to the top of a big log I had been using for splitting. I think that right there, was the biggest improvement. When I had it on the cement floor, it was just bouncing around and not biting the wood. Next, I took a Nichols file to it and sharpened the blade. Razor sharp. It seems to be holding an edge pretty well, but I touch it up before each use. I also make it a point to spray it with Rem Oil before each use. i am not sure whether it makes that big of a difference one way or the other. I think it might, so I will keep doing it. Even if it doesn't make a difference, it will keep it from rusting long term. I am now in love with this thing, and I go out to split kindling all the time to decompress from work. Cuts (most wood) like butter. Definitely needs to be straight grained wood and knot free wood. ... show more

  • Works good but...
It works but it does need to be mounted on something or it keeps bouncing around. Other then that issue it works great.

  • Come dull must sharpen before use
Out of the box this thing sucks. It is dull and won’t split wood worth a damn. I was ready to send it back until I read some reviews that said to sharpen it and it works great so that’s what I did. I also mounted it to a railroad tie. It works great with a 4lb sledge for smaller stuff around 3-4” is diameter. Any bigger and you need a 8lb sledge. It works well enough I decided to keep it. ... show more

  • Strong
Most of these splitters are made of cast iron, if you read reviews many of the people complain that their splitter cracked. That is just the nature of cast iron, its a poor choice of material to use for this application. This was one of the few I could find that was made of welded steel and should be indestructible. It has holes that allow you to anchor it down to a tree stump with screws. It is well designed for splitting logs. ... show more

  • Works as expected
Worked fine, of course as others had written, takes some good whacks when a knot is in the wood. Base is a little small, so I mounted it to a wider plate, then all was good.
