First of all, I had no clue I needed this thing. I haven't been on my rower in months and now it's getting warmer and every time I walk by a storefront I see my stomach sticking out, I'm just like, holy smokes, wowie wow, wow. So instead of jumping back onto this rower and start working out, start getting stronger again (leaner again?), I said to myself Hey, oil that chain, cause after so many months of not using it, the chain has gotten dry. Oh, but it's so hard, how do you do it? It doesn't stay in place, what kind of oil do I use? etc.. so I stumble upon this accessory on Etsy, and the one they sell on there is much worse because it's 3d printed. 3D Printed!? When I found this item on Amazon, I was like whoa... cheaper and the seller Pelofamily has like a pretty decent looking legit Amazon page, so I order it and you know what? This thing is really good quality legit thick and not like those crappy ones you find on eBay or Etsy. Buy this one. It's not like that 3D printer crap they sell on eBay or Etsy. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. I initially balked at a price of $26.99 for a piece of plastic that attaches to my rowing machine with the express purpose of lubricating the chain. After all, the recommended lubrication interval for the Concept2 Model D is every 50 hours or weekly for institutional users. To put that in perspective, I’ve rowed 1,084,534 meters in roughly 5 months. Since I’ve been working on building my Zone 2 cardio, I’ve focused on keeping my heart rate below 144 bpm, meaning that I’ve rowed for longer periods of time to reach that distance. So even at a casual pace, I’ve only managed to row 81 hours during that last 5 months. That’s one lubrication of the chain in the last 5 months, so I’m on the fence as to whether it’s worth the purchase of an accessory to make this task easier. That said, it’s pretty nice to have. It’s usually a two person job lubricating the chain, or it’s me getting one hand a little oily grabbing the chain while the other hand lubricates. It’s not ideal. This little piece of plastic (acrylic?) sits out of the way until you need it and makes the process of lubricating the chain a breeze. It’s genius, really. I still think institutional users will get the most out of this, since most home users would only use it a couple times a year, probably. Be aware that this will increase the length of the rower by about an inch. I store my rower upright when not in use, and it clears my 8-foot ceiling by only a few inches. I can still store it upright with this installed, but if you’re really close already, you might need that extra inch to store it upright. Since you need an Allen wrench to install and remove this device, the installation is also somewhat permanent. You could just install and remove whenever you needed to lubricate the chain, but I’m not sure it’s worth the effort to do that. The best application for this is for institutional users so they can easily maintain their machines. ... show more
