This little handheld sewing machine will make the perfect gift for one of kids that is going to college next year. She often mends and alters her own clothes at home, but will not have access to a regular sewing machine at school. She helped me test this one out (not knowing that I'm going to give it to her) and loves it. While it really only has one stitch, it can sew up a ripped seam very quickly. it has 2 speeds, so we can sew slowly - or go fast. It is very lightweight, and straightforward to use. In fact, I found myself pulling this out to fix a shirt that the hem was falling out of, instead of pulling out my big sewing machine.
