There are a lot of plastic yarn winders out there that I had considered ordering, but I really wanted a wood one- I just couldn't find one in my price range- until I found this beauty. It was really easy to put together with clear instructions and works like a dream. It's very smooth and quiet (the creeking sound in my video is from my tv tray that I have it sitting on). I've found it easy to use and lovely to look at. It seems like it will last me forever (it came with an extra band) but I'll update if I have any problems with it. I did have an issue receiving the product but I received a reply from the seller quickly after I sent them a message via Amazon and it was quickly fixed- turns out India can't ship to Po boxes so I had to have it shipped to a friend's house. They were friendly and I received it the day after I changed the address, which is 5 star service in my book. I would definitely purchase again as a gift for a friend. ... show more

I love the way it looks. It’s really well made. The weight is perfect. You almost don’t need the clamp. I love the way it works. Winding is SOOO much easier than on that plastic one I had given up using. The slit on top holds the starting yarn firmly without having to tape it (also SOOO much better than on the plastic one I had used). The post is long enough to hold A LOT of yarn. I made a hugh cake from 8 oz (474 yards) of worsted, although near the end it got a little messy looking. Easy to assemble. I did have a bit of trouble with understanding step 2. I couldn’t see that the hand was palm up, lifting. Step 3 was what showed me what I was trying to figure out. If you use the instructions on step 2 with those on step 3, you don’t need the step 2 picture. ... show more

This beautiful yarn winder far exceeded my expectations! The craftsmanship is superb. It’s heavier than I expected. The movement is so much smoother than I expected. It makes winding a skein of yarn quick and easy. I’m truly amazed by the quality, functionality and ease of use. I guess I was expecting some cheap, Chinese knock-off, so the reality of this finely made instrument has simply blown me away. This yarn winder will last for generations, I’m sure. The assembly instructions could be better written, but it was still very simple to put together. My original order got lost in the mail. But the owner responded very quickly, and sent a replacement immediately. It was world-class customer service. After looking at many different yarn winders and yarn swifts, and reading lots of reviews, I decided to take a chance on this wooden set from India. I was a little hesitant to believe that all the five star reviews were real, but believe me when I say that this is a wonderful value and an excellent fairly compact yarn winding set. I have never had or used a yarn winder or swift in the past, but I followed the enclosed instructions to put it all together and had no issues figuring out how to wind up my first beautiful yarn cake. It is pretty simple and wonderfully low-tech. It hand cranks very smoothly and quietly. I can tell that the seller puts a lot of thought and pride into their products. Besides the yarn winder and the yarn swift, it also came some lubricating oil, an extra belt (which is very important, should the one that came with it ever need replacement). Additionally, you get three wooden yarn bobbins, and a beautifully crafted matching wooden 4.00 mm crochet hook. Of crucial importance for stability, is the fact that both components also come with clamps to attach to a table to keep everything in place while in use. I highly recommend this set.
