I've been wanting to teach myself welding for years. I saw this, and saw it had a lot of good reviews, and it was cheap enough that if it turned out bad I wouldn't be out too much. Well, it turned out to be pretty good! I bought some 7018 rods and got some scrap steel and started playing. (NOTE: I also bought - separately - a good welding helmet, some welding gloves, some steel spring-loaded clamps, etc.) I played around with the current settings and striking the arc. Found the sweet spot for these rods around 83 Amps. I have no technique to speak of yet, but the unit functioned well enough and was forgiving enough of my total lack of experience that I was able to walk in both current and feed rate so by the tail end of my first rod I had found a groove and made some welds that actually looked "ok" and held well against me trying to break/pry them apart (couldn't.) The unit comes with cables only, you'll need everything else. Remember two things: This unit welds at an open-circuit voltage of 62 Volts DC. You CAN electrocute if you're not very careful. And be sure to get a real welding helmet with the rapid-response auto-darkening lens to help you avoid flash burns and skin damage from UV (I watched a friend weld about 40 years ago, from about 10 feet away, with no eye protection. Had to go to the hospital early the next morning because of corneal flash burns. Don't let that happen!) If you need a very light-weight, small, portable little welder, or if you're just starting out and want something inexpensive to try your hand with, this is a great starter unit. ... show more

I still suck at stick welding, but no more so with this box than any other, and the build quality for the price is excellent. I don’t have any hesitation recommending this little unit, especially if you just want to try this kind of work. (Note it is *very* hard to stick weld until you get good at starting the arc, because the electrode otherwise wants to stick to the workpiece by the nature of the process.) ... show more

Blow my mind how well this little welder works for 50 bucks when I bought it. I paid like 35 bucks for an auto darkening helmet & 20 bucks for a good set of Hobart rods. Help me get through a few binds now as I’m fulltime on the road and don’t have much space for my setup back home I bought this skeptical , pays for itself if you can get one repair done with it. I have professsional mig welding skills. I do not yet trust this enough to sell the work but for personal use or to help someone out sure. Sellable work yet… not convinced but will update this review as I get more experience with it and you never know. It may produce sellable work. Super compact and quiet unit. ... show more

From the first second after powering up this welder and striking an arc, I'm impressed. Size, ease of use, cost and duty cycle... all wins. This little bugger burned an 1/8 stick into 3/32 angle iron without any issue. Deep penetration, smooth welds, easy arc striking. The media could not be loaded. Can't believe this welder actually will run 3/32 7018... I was able to run it off my 4000w generator for some short welds no problem. I'm a bit suspicious of the 130 amp rating, probably maxes out closer to 100-110 amps based on my impression while welding. Don't plan to be welding for hours a day with this thing, you will probably burn it up, but if you're doing that you probably have larger machines more suited for that. I wouldn't bother with the 210a (220v) model since if you're looking to weld larger stuff with 1/8" and bigger rod you should just step up to a quality used stick welder or Harbor Freight Titanium. The real crux of this welder is the price point at $59 it is so cheap you can afford to have it as a compliment to your regular welding machines, you can throw it in a trunk and weld something back together no matter where you are as long as you have a 110v 20a plug or small generator. Purchased this to recondition sulfated batteries. Fast shipping as Amazon always delivers. Unit is tiny and very portable. Paid for itself 3 times over with the 1st battery I was able to recondition for my skid steer. It works so well I decided to use it on a small welding project I had. Multiple passes and honestly I expected to overload and trip this lil guy out. Nope! The candle stayed a burnin' and the metal a meltin'. Great Deal! Great Unit! I bought one for odd n' ends at work.
