  • Perfect, inexpensive automated slider to make a shot pop...
Size: 31" carbon fiber slider
The media could not be loaded. I recently got booked for a couple video interviews and wanted to add a little pop with subtle movement on my B cam. So I did a little research, ordered this puppy and opened it up the day before the shoot. Took everything out and set it up in a matter of minutes. However, if you are not technically savvy, you should watch a tutorial on YouTube. The remote is easy enough to figure out but not necessarily intuitive. Set your start point, end point, slide speed, manual or auto mode, loop or single a pass and you're off and running. I had this up and running within a couple minutes day of the shoot. Adds the perfect amount of movement to make a shot pop. I will say, I have not and do not really intend to use this for time lapse photography. So I can't attest to that functionality but I'm sure it's cool. The only suggestion I will make is play around with the center directional rod. If it's dead center, the slider will simply go left to right with no camera pan (cool for cinematic shots, etc). Play around with varying degrees of adjustment to dial in the perfect amount camera pan so your shot stays on your subject for interviews. I noticed you don't much. As for quality, it's built very well with aluminum plates and carbon fiber rails. The best part is that it's whisper quiet. Can't hear to motor or gears one bit. However, my brother ordered the same kit and he said he noticed a faint high pitched squeal when the slider ramps down to change directions. But again, mine is quieter than Hellen Keller. The kit comes in a convenient cary bag with foam for protection. Sure, the nylon bag is kind of cheap but it works. The entire kit is very light and takes up less space than you think. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Great product, a few caveats
Size: 31" carbon fiber slider
This is a really great product, especially for the money. It’s comparable to $2k other setups, and while it isn’t quite as nice, it’s really close for the money. Construction build is great, it’s lightweight and it works really well. Can take some stellar shots and comes in at under the price of a new lens. With that said, I would add the following. 1. Get a ball mount. Mounting is a little weird, you have to hold an Allen to the plate so it doesn’t turn and unfortunately it doesn’t pack well in the case with a ball mount. But you definitely need a ball mount to adjust the angle of your camera. 2. Manual could do with a few updates. What is time lapse and interval setting. I still don’t know. What sort of configuration should I do if I want a one hour time lapse to span the whole distance of the slider? Kind of on your own there. 3. I really wish I didn’t have to configure stop and start every time and the thing just did it on its own. It’s kind of annoying. 4. I like the remote more than an app because I can just leave it and come back. But the remote navigation is a bit clunky. 5. It’s not advertised as a vertical slider, and this one wasn’t powerful enough to do that. I can lift an a7iii mirrorless with a 24 1.4 GM lens at about 45 Degrees steadily, but definitely not vertical. They have a more robust one that does that. 6. I ordered the 31. It’s plenty of slider for what I needed. 7. Definitely worth it for the money. This thing comes in at a 1/4 to a 1/6 of some other big brands built comparably. I’ve see. $800 smartphone sliders that move 8 inches. Just get it already. ... show more

  • Just took delivery
Size: 31" carbon fiber slider
The media could not be loaded. Just took delivery of this slider. So far, very impressive. I am not a hobbiest but a full time producer. Its light and well made. I will be using it on a real job tomorrow, but my initial tests have been good. Setting it up is easy. There is no assembly, really, other than putting a battery on and plugging in the power cable. I was able to set in and out point for the auto mode. Easy peasy. Its surprisingly quiet. Only when you get within a couple feet do you hear the faint hum. If you rely on the camera mic for sound, you will hear it. However for interviews with a lapel mic it will be nonexistent. Update: used it for the first time today and it worked great. I know many had questions about how loud it is so i posted a video running at 90% speed. Its quiet! Motion is smooth. easy to set up. Really good pickup. ... show more

  • Production Value Up. Cost Down.
Size: 31" carbon fiber slider
If you are a low or no budget filmmaker, this GVM slider is a definite investment to your kit. For my type work (at a non-profit doing promotion) this made total sense in buying. Over the past months, it has proven itself in numerous criteria: economical, versatile, consistent & durable. I have used this slider to give motion to a B-camera and as a temporary setup to give motion in live production. I have yet to have an issue with any craftsmanship or functionality issue. It has added a great improvement to my appeared production value. Things to know: 1) It does take time and patience to learn the interface of the controller. It is not difficult or complex, but it does take time to become proficient. Read reviews & watch videos on youtube to learn how to set it up. I opened the box on the day of a shoot and did not assemble it until I arrived on location and had no problem setting up the controller. 2) At higher rates of speed, the battery drains considerably faster. So take extra batteries. 3) At lower speeds, the motor's sound is almost imperceivable. However at very high speed (90%+). With that being said, if you are using it for a moving B-Camera you will never want to use it above 70-80% speed. So this to me is a non-factor. 4) The case, though light-weight seems to be durable enough to sustain travel. I do "baby" everything I own and travel with. If you are on planes or are prone to being overly rough on gear, you might want to consider a flight case in the future. 5) Due to the weight of the motor unit, you will DEFINITELY need 2 tripods/light stands or the extension support arms you can find online. One tripod under the center will likely ever be sufficient unless you are using a short travel distance. I am peculiar about everything I use. If this slider proves to be deficient in the future I will be changing my review. However, it has been solid for me and has yet to underperform my expectations. ... show more
