G0462 16" x 46" Wood Lathe with DRO A deluxe turning machine at a very competitive price! The G0462 16" x 46" Wood Lathe with DRO can swing 16" over the bed, comes with a 2 HP motor and sports a digital readout for spindle RPM. Changing speeds is easy with the shift-on-the-fly speed control lever and there are no belts to mess with. The speed can be changed between 600 and 2400 RPM. Outboard turning is a snap too, just loosen the headstock and swivel it up to 180° for total flexibility. The solid cast-iron construction throughout ensures smooth and stable operation. If you want to add more storage place, the legs feature shelf supports so you can add your own custom-built shelf. If not required by any local codes, fastening the machine to the floor is an optional step. If you choose not to do this with your machine, we recommend placing it on machine mounts, as these provide an easy method for leveling and they have vibration-absorbing pads. The G0462 manual was written by our U.S. based Technical Documentation Department and is packed with useful information. • Great lathe for the money
This isn’t a $4,000 lathe, but for the price it’s a sweet machine. It has a couple of issues that anybody with any mechanical savvy can remedy. For instance, the head won’t stay secure even when it is adjusted for maximum tightness. Easy cure, drilled and tapped a hole in the rail and now it bumps the bolt head. The tool bar extender is a bit light duty on big stuff but I seldom use it. I’ve read other reviews about it walking on the floor if not bolted down. It will if your piece is off balance, but I’ve yet to bolt mine down, and it doesn’t walk unless my piece is way out of balance. I wish it ran much slower for finishing with epoxy finishes, but aside from that, powerful, relatively quiet. Motor gets warm but all motors do. I’ve had no problems with this. I wish it had a reverse, but like I said, it’s a $1,200 lathe not a top of the line. I’d buy it again if just starting out. ... show more

  • Great Machine
This machine is a great product! I have been turning for over a year now and would like to give the grizzly team a thumbs up on this machine. I bought this machine about 2 months ago, and have turned quite a few items on it already. This machine is ok for the beginner as long as you have someone experienced with them for first time use. Some of the functions this machine has are higher than entry level and should be explained by someone with experience. My daughter having no lathe experience at all was able to operate the machine and turn out a cool little tea light holder with simple direction and explanation of machine operation by me. After the quick rundown she was able to operate safely and efficiantly to turn her project. Below see my Pros and Cons of the machine: PRO: The ability to rotate the head for easier access to the work piece is just awesome!!! CON: if you need to use the tool rest extension with the head rotated or in normal operating position, only take small cuts, as it will encounter vibration with heavier cuts and will be more than likely create a catch in the work piece. PRO: When rotating the head back to normal operating position, you will need to take an extra few minutes to realign the tail stock to center of the work piece, but is easy to do. CON: For the tail stock, I really wish Grizzly would have thought about this a little bit more. if you have a 14" to 16" diameter work piece it is difficult to get the tail stock close enough to use a live center, I would suggest purchasing a MT2 extender to be able to get the live center out farther to contact the work piece and still have room for the tool rest support to work on the tail stock side of the work piece. PRO: Machines operation from slow to fast RPM is seamless, very smooth transition and operates flawlessly. PRO: Customer service and Tech service is amazing. I had been turning a large bowl and had a really bad catch which broke the tool rest support. I then contacted Grizzly and with the machine still under waranty they replaced it at no extra cost and had the new part in my hands in a week. Delivery of the machine was fast and seamless, customer support was very helpful with the delivery. Also Very easy to setup the machine once you have it in your shop. Overall this is a great running and easy to use machine, i would recommend to anyone that is in the market for a lathe that will do up to 16" diameter pieces. It has plenty of power for the bigger turnings and is smooth running not loud or obnoxious. Happy Turning!! ... show more

  • Grizzly wood lathe H0462
It was packed very well it was easy to set up but whatever you do used to people don’t try to set it up with just one person 600 as a high speed for a beginner to start on the speed should be lower if I had to pick a speed I would think 200 would be better for a beginner it is built very very nice but whatever you do anchor it to the floor in case it shakes and does not fall over I did not like the digital readout it is belt driven so it won’t keep up to speed and change your speeds as your tire and I did not like that after I put it together I could not use it because the face plate was stuck and could not come off and the wrenches did not fit correctly and stripped the first day I got it but the technical support was great at grizzly and help me get a new centerpiece and a new face five cent and the mail the day it happened but grizzly is a great product if I can get help every time I call for help with something when it happens for my one year warranty I will keep buying grizzly ... show more

  • wood lathe
The lathe arrived at the local UPS less than truckload freight terminal three days after I placed the order. Dock workers used a forklift to load up my borrowed pickup truck. The lathe was bolted down inside a very serious plywood crate with no damage apparent on the outside. Plywood used to make the crate is approved by the state of California for something related to air quality, I can't remember what. At home, I opened the crate while it was still sitting in the pickup truck. The nuts that hold the tail stock and the banjo (tool rest) to the lathe had loosened in shipping resulting in some minor paint chipping. The lathe weighs about 300 pounds. Broken into six major pieces, it is pretty easy the carry to the workshop for assembly. It is easy to assemble. The mechanical variable speed control works well and changes speed quickly. Speeds from about 620 to 2860 rpm are available in 10 steps. It doesn't go slow enough for larger diameter turnings, but covers the spindle turning and small bowl range very well. The paint finish is very good. Clamp levers on the tool rest are plastic and I think one is stripped already (-Grizzly, I'll be calling you about that-). The tool rest is also a little too flexible in my opinion. Anyway, I turned some spindles and the lathe did very well. I cut up a maple log to make some spalted bowls about 6" in diameter. The headstock vibrated a little when I was roughing them out and the motor warmed up a little. Plenty of torque for small bowls. Overall, I'm happy that I bought this lathe. The price was very low and the quality is good (with the noted exceptions on the tool rest). The variable speed with no belt changes is a time saving feature that I think Grizzly should make more of in marketing the machine. This is my second Grizzly machine. The first is a thickness planer that is now about 10 years old and running fine. The other machines in my shop are old USA Delta and new Chinese Delta. I still prefer the old USA Delta, but can't find much of it anymore. ... show more
