Background: I was not sure about this purchase as it seemed a bit crazy to try to use a battery powered chainsaw. The reason I was interested is because I was tired of dealing with all the issues that came with my gas chainsaw (18 inch 45 cc). I had replaced the plug, the air filter and a gas line and was dealing with another issue where the chainsaw would not idle properly. I had to turn it off each time I had to adjust position since it would keep spinning. I had enough. I made the best choice to buy this GreenWorks chainsaw. The Good: It works as well as the gas chainsaw. It has the power to take down real trees and clean them. It is safer (in that it stops when you want instead of a potentially shaky idle) No more pull start. You push a button then a safety with a trigger. Awesome! The battery charges fast. It is very quiet. I would guess it is about 1/3 the noise of a gas chainsaw (not scientific, just a guess). When you take the side-cover off the bar you can clean the area real easy. There is nothing there except a wheel for the chain, the oil dispenser hole and the bar and chain. The Not so Good: The battery (so far) gets through about one ash tree before dying. You may feel like it is not as dangerous when cutting because it is so quiet and simple, but it still has the same risk and should be treated that way. Notes: I find I can clear a tree faster because it cuts on and off instantly. I do not mind the battery dying as it gives me time to rest, but may get a second one to keep going when I need to do so. Overall: This is one of the best purchase decisions of my life! I am sold. I only wish I had bought their lawn mower (bought one about a month before this purchase). I am convinced in this company. I will try to give an update after I finish clearing more trees (got hit by the ash-bore). Update: Since first posting this review, I have cut down many more trees and have purchased the weed trimmer. That had the same battery so now I can use the chainsaw while the second battery is charging. I still love this as much as the day it first arrived. ... show more

    • No gas...but that's ok for non-commercial use.

This is a nice chain saw for home use. Battery charges pretty fast (within an hour to 90 minutes roughly). Cutting around 4" softwood (pine), the battery lasted about two hours (of intermittent cutting..i.e. the saw was not running continuously). Chain tensioning is easy to do. It is great that soon as you stop a cut...everything shuts down...so a great safety feature. Used it to cut 12"-18" logs and performed well but less battery time. The only negatives are that constant use will cause the battery to heat up a bit and the battery has to cool down for about 20-30 minutes before it will be able to charge in the charging unit. The best thing to do is to buy a second battery...that would make this a super product (I wish it came with two batteries). All in all....very good saw...really like not having to store gas. You do need chain oil of course...but it uses it very efficiently. After 3 hours of cutting branches (not continuous cuts...a very short time between cuts though)...it did not use all of the chain oil. ... show more

Quite heavy with battery installed but cuts real good. The 2 chains it came with are no good though and the one that was on the saw was installed backwards. Put an Oregon chain on it and cuts great ,,, not too noisy either. Bought to use in the forest where gas saws are banned. In the cordless electric world this is the one you want. ... show more

Handles well good balance and power. I'm bot a fan of the automatic timeout and power off. It's just a pain. And I had a bit of trouble with the power button with workgloves (as visible in the photo). I think both of these challenges hold it back from.beinf a five star product. But it does have power and cuts clean. I used my smaller greenworks to delimb because it's lighter, doesn't timeout and the wear down the cheaper blade before the more costly one. Charged and recharged the battery with an Anker Solox system. Great to cut with zero fuel cost. ... show more
