  • Great for a show, jam or just a noodle on the couch
Color: Natural
I bought this to replace my fretless Kala Ubass and its better than I could've hoped. The Ubass was great but not quite loud enough, but this guy is loud enough to add bottom end to an acoustic jam, no amp necessary. The larger size is less awkward than the Ubass to play. The fret distance is close to a regular guitar, making it familiar for your fingers. As other reviewers have mentioned, you have to lift the strings out of the nut because they don't slide evenly. It makes tuning a 15-second ordeal instead of a 2-second ordeal, but for how fun and pleasant it is to play, its worth it. ... show more

This could be the best sounding Bass I've ever owned.

  • Best U bass available
Color: Natural
Started with the 23" scale instrument but just had to tweak up to the 25" and I am glad I did.The 23 was a borderline toy but with lots of potential. The 25 is "gettin it" with all the character and versatility one could want. Shaping the tone is a joy and an adventure with my Eden EC10. Why, you might ask is this not a 5* rating? Heres the reason for the subtracted star: There is virtually no finish on the instrument and the natural mahogany color looks washed out as if it had been left out in the elements for a month. Last... there is no way you will make an improvment on the characteristics of how the strings stick. If you use lubricant, chances are it will build up and make things worse later. Its just the way polymer strings are. My attitude is: Get used to it and develop special technique that may very well improve your playing, as "sliding around" may very well be a lazy habit. ... show more

  • Great instrument that requires some TLC
Color: Natural
A beautiful instrument with a great sound, but it needs TLC. Overall good solid design. It took some dressing on the frets to get rid of a buzz and some sharp fret ends, but the fit and finish on the rest of the instrument was excellent. The shape, with a rounded back and a sloped area on the front to rest your arm feels really good. Then there are the strings. I have some experience with the U Bass from Kala. Those string tend to feel sticky and vaguely uncomfortable. These feel much better -- especially after I applied a light coat of silicone lubricant (Gold Tone recommends either silicone or talc). Tuning is an adventure. Because the strings can snag on the nut which damages them GT recommends lifting the string out of the nut as you tighten it. Please pay attention to this. I did manage to destroy a string before I figured this out. The good news is you get lots of practice tuning. For the first two to three weeks, I had to tune up half a step every day as the strings stretched out. Finally a month later they seem to be stable, but the one-to-two days recommended is quite optimistic! Also take the note about not winding too much of the strings onto the tuning pegs when you first install them very seriously. Tuning up the G string as it stretched took almost three extra turns from where it was initially. The D and A strings were both around two turns. The E got in tune quickest -- it only added half a turn. Bottom line -- this is an instrument to love, but expect to to spend some time getting it to good playable condition. ... show more

Color: Natural
After playing upright bass for 35 years, the hands and back were feeling the abuse. This is as close to a dog house as you will get.The tuners need some help. Very difficult to re string ( g and d). This has become my main bass. The fact that the Bluegrass community has accepted it says it all.
