  • At best, the two latch components came together like a ...
I originally posted my review(review #5) here, re: the Globber NL 205 scooter. I tend to get a bit too in depth when explaining things at times. TMI! So I deleted that bookish review(!)...and replace it with this shorter(comparatively) version. Bottom line is, I would have given this scooter 4 to 5 stars(for it's design and ease of use/rolls great)...IF it had come to me correctly assembled/adjusted(as in QUALITY CONTROL) on the mfg. end. It is not the purchaser's job to fix things that would not have taken extra work, but only right attention to detail by the mfg. I realize it is a $69.00 scooter...but again, the problems mentioned are not a matter of price point...but attention to the job it takes to just build it right. Below are the things that were wrong with my scooter right out of the box. Numbers 1.) and 2.) refer to key operational issues. The rest could be considered important, because they could have been considered as well. 1.) The catch assy. that allows the board to latch onto the handle in folded position, Was so misaligned that it would not stay folded. At best, the two latch components came together like a 'hair trigger' that, again came apart way too easily. I fixed it by cutting an aluminum shim to place at the base of the rear fender/brake. This altered that fender's position slightly to the rear; enabling the two components to meet/latch dependably. ONLY then, did this scooter do that which it should have done right out of the box. 2.) A major issue with kick scooters is RATTLING. So I would think that obvious sources of rattling would be identified by designer/mfg. and alleviated when/where EASY to do so. The H-bars are standard plug-in(to a center 'T' section)style. They are retained by a push button on each. However, when the h-bars are plugged in, they are loose and that wobble is going to cause rattling on the road! NO different kind of work or extra amount of work was needed by mfg. to completely alleviate that problem. IF they had merely inserted each h-bar about 3/4" further in to the T bar/center section...the looseness is GONE...NO wobble so no rattle. I made this mod, and of course then i had to drill out two NEW holes for the h-bar retainer 'button' springs. No reason mfg. could not have used this more secure positioning in the first place. So...if YOU own this scooter, I know YOUR h-bars are LOOSE...mine are not. Now you know where and why that rattle(partially)comes from. On that note: I will say that(with this issue adressed) MY scooter is unbelievably QUIET!!! I do not expect whisper quiet...but when you listen to the racket coming off most kick scooters(in this price range anyway)on Youtube(if they are not drowning in out with over-dubbed music!!), this is NOTHING like them. But if you have loose H-bars...that WILL be a rattle issue. So I consider this another key operational issue re the scooter. Also..the ergonomic hand grips(I really like these grips!!) are never the less mounted at the 'wrong' angle to meet a taller person's hands right. to be truly ergonomic(or the best comfort). I know this varies with rider height. I am 6' tall and using either of the top two h-bar height positions(buttons on the stem), I needed a different angle on the grips, than they are set. So...when I was resetting the insertion of the H-bar(explained above) I also ROTATED the H-bars to an angle that met my hands better. THEN I drilled the new holes mentioned for the H-bar retainer buttons. So, I had made TWO important changes to the H-bars alone. 3.) The hand brake. Do not depend on this to stop you. OR(on mine)squeeze it just a bit harder and it locks up, which is dangerous. A look at the brake's actual design and mechanics explains why. The actual brake/contact lever is loose to slide back and forth on it's axle(so it cannot meet the wheel correctly or consistently) and the mfg. did not even bother to adjust or use the brake's cable position retainer nut(a must) to hold it all secure. The brake functions as a 'jam' brake because it meets the wheel in such a way as to enable the wheel to lock up when you brake. VERY dangerous. Whereas the rear fender brake DRAGS the wheel to give you the stopping friction(and it works well). Curiously, Globber does not charge (at this point) extra for the'deluxe'(they call it!!)model with the hand brake. So at least you are not paying extra for something that straddles useless to dangerous. Still BE wary of it. I even installed a nylon ship(was amazingly difficult...I would not advise doing it)to lessen the radial play of the actual brake mechanism on it's axle bolt. But it does not 'save' the brakes iffy design. I will probably remove that whole hand brake assy...does not seem too "deluxe" in reality. 4.) If you are comfortable doing so: not a bad idea to loosen the steering stem/collar and CHECK THE BEARINGS for both correct greasing and any undue play. Mine was 'okay' but I lubed it a bit more and I think I got the stem adjusted a bit better. both are important to the ride and extra lube in bearings can help quiet a rattle(if). having worked in a bike shop...I always think it is good to CHECK ALL FASTENERS NUTS AND BOLTS for correct tightness!!! Not all rattles can be traced or dealt with. but if you have rattles, generally that IS a sign that something can be loose. Especially if you are putting your kid on this. just common sense I would think. This reviews main purpose is to give you a HEADS UP! Mine did not come perfect and so I identified and fixed the issues. If YOU have none(???), did you really LOOK for them? I ride many things that roll and NEVER asume'it's all good' mechanically. Ha! even a simple scooter seems to prove that out! 5.) I have to have ONE complaint that is a bit silly(!)...but it DOES further prove the inattention to detail on the scooter I received. On the stem, just below the H-bar is the black plastic H-bar retainer(holds the H-bar sides when unplugged from 'T' bar). ONE screw inserts into that piece and then screws into the metal stem so it won't slide up and down the bar. On my scooter...the retainer screw is screwed into the stem...but the H bar was sitting about one inch below the screw that was supposed to be holding it on the stem! :D:D:D Uhhhhh...'OKAY!???' Does not exactly inspire confidence re the assembly of. 'Beyond' this.. I stabilized the hand brake CABLE better than it was(though the brake seems largely useless if not dangerous(?) and will likely remove it. My front wheel bearings don't spin as good as the rear(same bearings)...I will relube and reset and replace if need be. Not uncommon. Be ready to do the same with yours...new and better bearings are easy to be had if you want or need to upgrade. That's pretty much it. I thought I'd save some time and space in this review(not sure I did???) I want to emphasize that, 'at the end of the day' I (who am very used to working on 'this ad that') DO very much like this scooter. AFTER THE FIXES/MODS i had to do or chose to do. I think my observations are fair and important for you to consider before you buy this(or any scooter, really)scooter. IF you already did...take a second look and be sure all is good. And ABOVE ALL if your kid is riding this USE A HELMET!!! We live on a little above 'sleight' hill and a kid going down it wrecked right in front of our house. It is very creepy running out to find a kid; KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS(for a few minutes!)laying in the street!!! . I have a son and I will never forget that kid; that day. Scooters are DANGEROUS at speed on even sleight hills. Even when I ride a scooter(as a 50+ mph Alpine STREET LUGER)...I AM IMMEDIATELY aware of the problems with the geometry of these 'toys' things(re safety/speed). NO excuse for NO helmet(parents). 'Wheels' can bring fun AND great pain. Do not underestimate either possibility. (: Summary: With a little more attention to manufacture/assembly, this could have been a clear '5 star' scooter. BUT...since I needed my own time/tools (from basic tools to a benchtop Drill-press!) and kitchen table to FIX things right out of the box...THAT lets me know that the mfg. could have and should have gotten it right on THERE end. They did not do that....hence '3 stars'. I was going to (initially) order TWO of these....I like mine(NOW)...IDK if I would buy it again. BTW: the seller ('Norma') is very courteous and attentive. I KNOW that THEY do not mfg(importers)these items. But they ARE sellers of...so need to be aware of. Looks like, by other ratings(on a new and few ratings product)that my experience is unique (lucky me???). That is as fair as I can judge this scooter. I made reference in my earlier review, about a video of these issues. I removed it. I don't want my 'street luge' channel to have scooter problem/repair videos on it :D:D:D...so I will leave it at this amazon review/post. Sorry...it ended up being a long review anyways!!!! OOOPS!! This purchase was a leap of faith since it seems to be very new scooter to the market, but I must say I am pleasantly surprised with what this $90 scooter brings to the table. Its perfect for my 10yo son as it is great for my wife. (we got 2). I am bit too heavy to ride this since I am not clearing their 220lb limit but I did give it a shot and its smooth and quiet. It looks like its made durable, but we need to wait and see if it stands a test of time and my son's abuse :). For the money so far so good! ... show more

  • Nice big scooter
This is a nice big boy scooter. Its a very nice looking scooter. finally i found a scooter that isnt bright colored or all chromed out. It's built hefty and strong yet it's surprisingly light. I have a globber one k 180 and even thought this scooter is larger it's still lighter. I'm 5'8 and I use the handlebar settings at the lowest. One downside, the brake lever is practically useless. Every other scooter I've used with a brake lever uses a front brake system. For some reason on this scooter they switched it to a rear wheel system. So both lever and foot brake work on rear. When activating lever brake this little tab (shown in picture) that practically does nothing. Maybe when the wheels brake in the brakes will work better. I still give it 5 stars. Good buy (UPDATE) After riding the scooter for a few weeks now ive come to the conclusion its not as good as I once thought. like I said before hand brake is useless. the platform is too high. you have to reach so low you fatigue faster than you should. the handle bars creak too much. finally when turning to the right the wheels axel gets stuck. I feel its an unsafe scooter. went back to my Globber one k 180. ... show more

  • Don't use the handbrake.
It is a good scooter and it gets me around campus very well. The bad part is the hand break ALWAYS causes the back wheel to lock up. The back wheel has notches from my kids using the handbrake so now it does not roll smoothly. It is also useless in even a little bit of rain. The wheels slide out from under you if the pavement is even a little wet. ... show more

  • Smooth ride
Brakes needed adjusting as per 2018 Breaking kept creating a skid causing the rear tires degradation. This in turn created flatness on every part of the tire turning it from circular in shape to an octagon making the break catch on the tire. Further making it unsafe to ride.
