This was my first air purifier purchase, and after having this about two weeks, I don't think I could ever live without one. I specifically chose this one for aesthetic (and because of the good reviews) and it is a very good looking machine. Most of my furniture is white and this blends in while also not taking up much foot space. The only issue I have with the design is that the vents are in the back, so this can not be tucked away into a corner. I'd say it would have to be about a foot away from the wall at least for proper airflow. That's not a problem for us, and I think the sleek design of the machine makes up for it. As for sound, I live in New York City, and there's constant noise pollution coming in from outside. The air purifier on the highest setting is about as loud as a powerful fan or an air conditioner on the lowest setting. If you live in a very quiet place I'd imagine it may be a little noisy and if you can't stand white noise, the highest setting will be bothersome. That being said, settings 4-1 are very quiet. Setting three has basically no sound. I've left it on setting 5 the whole time I've had it and I barely register it being there at all. I have this set up specifically for the largest room in my small apartment, the living room and kitchen area (approx. 200 sq ft ) and I think it does an adequate job with that space. I see significantly lest dust, and since we've placed it next to the litter box, much less odor near that area. I can't really tell you if the UV function is working, but if the light is bothersome at night you can turn off this function with a press of a button. Most importantly, I genuinely feel like this machine has helped the quality of the air in my home. I've not woken up with a stuffy nose or scratchy throat since receiving it. I've had friends sleep over and they've said similar things. We're all breathing better. Included are some photos of the machine and about a two weeks worth of dust and stuff in the filter. I was absolutely amazed by how dirty the filter was after this short time. I did a quick vacuum and it looked good as new. ... show more

I live in a brand new 1 bedroom apartment that has never been lived in before. My allergies were going crazy with dust and seasonal allergies are terrible right now. We are clean non smokers and no pets. I ordered this in May 2018 and it has honestly ran 24/7 on high with UV since the day it arrived. This thing has never made a squeak or a squeal above normal operating noises. As you can see in the photos this is after about 3 months. Let me start by saying that as a lifelong asthmatic and hay fever sufferer, and living in the grass seed production capital of the US, once COVID19 hit, I knew I needed to take some extra steps to try to protect my already vulnerable respiratory system. After reading many reviews comparing filters of this class, I settled on the Guardian, based on features and positive ratings. One thing I also need to note is that I am a person who hates the white noise of fans. I can't sleep with fans running, and I also usually pick up a harmonic sound that drives me up the wall. We bought 2 of these filters for bedrooms, and a larger filter for the living room. On the whole, these filters irritate me far less than an actual fan or AC unit running. I can still hear it, but given how overly sensitive I am, that doesn't surprise me. One of the units I cannot discern a harmonic at all, and the other has a faint one. The one in my bedroom I turn off at night. Another member of our household loves fans as white noise and she has said that of all the fans she has (and lordy, she has 2 fans plus another air filter!) she loves the sound of this particular unit above all the others. Why does she have a second air filter going in her room? In addition to loving fan noise in general, the Guardian filter has the UV function, which the other air filter does not have. Overall, the addition of these filters has been extremely positive, with good effect on our respiratory systems--and we are only partway through hayfever season! If you have a larger space you are trying to filter, I highly recommend the GermGuardian AC9200WCA 27". That is highly efficient for larger spaces and is actually quieter than this smaller unit (at least as far as I can tell). Overall, I am greatly enjoying every GermGuardian air filter we have (including some baby wall socket units). Great products. ... show more

I have now purchased two of these units and run one in my bedroom and another in my son's. So far I think they are a decent air purifier. I have personally noticed when I sleep my nose is not plugged up like it had been most nights. I truely believe it has reduced allergens in my room. Noise level is not bad on fan settings 1 through 4, but level 5 is fairly loud. I wouldn't describe the sound as annoying just your typical fan noise. I run it on fan level 3 with the UV lamp turned on 24/7. Replacement filters are priced fair if you look at third party vendors. I just recently purchased a two pack of replacement filters for around thirty dollars and in my opinion they are equal quality to OEM. As far as air volume and room size I would not recommend for a space larger than a bedroom. This unit is more suited for this size room and you will notice a reduction in allergens and dust. If your going up to a living room or a large combined space I recommend another purifier on Amazon that treats up to 300+ square feet. 2 Year Update - Well it lasted this long and provided good 24/7 service but it has failed! The controls for fan speed, UV, and Timer no longer work. Only the power On/Off button. When you turn it on it stays at speed 5 setting with no way to change it. Basically makes it unusable in a bedroom environment. Reducing my rating because it should have lasted longer than this before a control board failure. Internet searches for this failure mode confirm I am not the only one experiencing this. ... show more
