  • Bad design
I bought this for my Mom thinking it would be better than the prior model (and some people had complained of fire issues with the prior model... though I think that may have to do with dirt collected inside the unit) Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be better. The new design has a front cover where the air comes out along the sides instead of straight out the front. The gap where the air comes out the sides is relatively small which leaves me concerned about dirt buildup behind it. Hopefully the front cover can be popped off so you can get in there to clean. It also has an issue with whistling noise though I've read that supposedly that is from the filter not being seated correctly. I notice my Mom has stopped using it and I suspect she is having problems with the noise, but isn't telling me. Mad at myself that I didn't just buy the older model. ... show more

  • Excellent remover of dust, mites, allergens and odors
This Germ Guardian True HEPA Filter Air Purifier is an upgrade to the more expensive but less reliable oval shaped Germ Guardian that has been available for several years. While I was having to buy warranties and replacing both of the two original Germ Guardians, I have yet to have to replace this upgrade edition. In fact, it's been so reliable, I bought another one to use in my living room. It cleaned up all the dust that had settled because my older Germ Guardian (the more expensive and unreliable one) had fizzled out. I had purchased the replacement lights and filters to use whenever the older model called for replacing those particular parts. The consistently rotten thing with the older version is that the machine would NEVER recognize replacement of the light or hepa filter, and therefore wouldn't operate. Then the insurance/warranty I purchased was rejected. Bummer! The upgraded model has been zero problem in any way. I bought the HEPA filter that goes with it, but I haven't purchased the smaller light. I am waiting to see how long the Germ Guardian lasts before requiring replacement of parts. Although I like polishing wood furniture, I hate dusting and vacuuming. This Germ Guardian keeps the air clean, fresh, and healthy, and attends to the dusting for us. I have a Germ Guardian in the living room (which includes an open dining room), and in each of the bedrooms. We only vacuum to collect the dirt that gets tracked in. This particular model of Germ Guardian is well worth the $100.00 for each of them. Try it. I believe you will like it. ... show more

  • Good overall
Great filter for the price. Between my roommate and I, we have two large dogs and three cats, and I can surprisingly say that I do notice less dust in my bedroom overall. I clean it out every other week or so, and it’s impressive what comes out of it. Granted the animals are not continuously in my bedroom, but it still helps. I usually keep it running on either low or medium. Noise level is comfortable, except when it’s on full blast (but like any fan of course). My only annoyance with it is that the air outflow blows out the sides and sort of towards the back…also where the intake is. So I do notice (when in the right sunlight) a lot of particles getting blow away from the intake, making it not AS effective as other purifiers, where the intake and outflow are opposite directions. ... show more

  • Works Great
We live in California and with all the recent fires, this was an essential purchase to help clean the air in our home. My husband was recently in the hospital for blood clots in his lungs so good air quality was essential to his recovery. While he was in the hospital, most of California was on fire. It was so bad that there were days I would drive to the hospital and the sky was orange or gray. Them smell of smoke was very strong and we had poor/unhealthy air quality. I knew I needed an air purifier at home to help improve the air quality and began to shop around. Germ Guardian was familiar because I had seen it in my chiropractor's office and also my dentist office once they were able to reopen after the COVID shut down. I knew that if they trusted it, so could I. I bought as soon as I knew my husband was going to be released from the hospital. It did a fabulous job improving the air quality in the house. It not only got the smell of smoke out, but I feel safer knowing it's getting any germs too. I bought it for my husband but we are all benefiting from how much cleaner the air is. ... show more

  • Great air filter for price
Odd thing is the high pitched noise that both my husband and I can hear- like an alarm going off. Otherwise, if you can tune that out (we have kids, we’ve learned to tune annoying noises out) it’s a great machine. I’ve replaced the carbon filter twice and the hepa filter once in less than 4 months of owning it. But we also have concrete floors, 1 puppy that was losing its puppy coat, one adult dog that is shedding an undercoat, and two kids, so that makes for a bunch of dirt to filter. Dog smell has pretty much vanished (amen!) and cooking smells from the kitchen evaporate pretty quickly too. We only have one (downstairs is about 1300 sqft) but we use it in our open floor plan (kitchen/dining/living area) and it’s been working great. I feel the difference in air quality after sitting next to it versus being outside without filtered air. Plan on buying another soon. ... show more

  • It works okay, but it was not new--it was clearly a return
I just received this today. The packaging looked okay, but the plastic bag that covered the unit was half off, the power cord had obviously been re folded (the loops were really loose and the twist tie was not secure), and there was dust all over the bottom of the unit. The filters, however, appeared not to have been exposed to anything, so I'm keeping the unit instead of asking for a return. Noise level is acceptable on low, but may be distracting while trying to sleep. The main point of this review is to caution buyers that theis company is selling "used" or "returned" open box purifiers as "new." ... show more
