Description

The Gemini is faster and quieter than other die cutting and embossing machines and has a sleek low-profile design. It has been designed for intricate dies as well as for cutting heavyweight cardstock, vinyl, foil and multiple layers of fabric (depending on the dies used). The Gemini is compatible with most leading thin metal dies and embossing folders. Using higher pressure than many other machines, the Gemini allows better cutting of elaborate designs. With a large platform size (9" x 12.5"), edge to edge cutting of A4 and US letter size materials is enabled, as well as the versatility to use multiple dies at the same time. With the unique pause, resume and reverse feature, you can reverse out smaller dies once they are cut (for a quicker pass), as well as being able to have peace of mind if you're concerned you've put an incorrect sandwich combination through. I've been using die cutting machines for years and currently have a Cricut Maker, Vagabond, Grand Calibur, a Big Shot and a Cuttlebug. After looking at the Gemini Machine I decided having a wider mouth machine that didn't require hand cranking would be good so I ordered one. With all of the machines, cutting out intricate dies can be tricky so when the Gemini arrived I decided to try the most intricate dies I own, the ones that have given me the most trouble in the past. I was amazed at how beautifully they came out. I set up the sandwich according to the directions and it was perfect. I tried some more with the exact same results. Then I got out my 3D embossing folders which can be touchy. You want them embossed without cutting through the paper. Again, I set up the sandwich according to the directions and they came out great. I'm thrilled! Today I retired the Grand Calibur (love the wide mouth but don't need to crank any more), the Big Shot (wonderful machine but I have the Vagabond), and the Cuttlebug (it served me well). Now I have the Cricut Maker (in a class of it's own), the Vagabond for all those wonderful Sizzix Bigz dies and my new Gemini. What more could a serious crafter ask for...I'm so happy! In addition to loving it, the Gemini comes with a number of dies, a 3D embossing folder, great instructions and all the cutting plates you could possibly need. There are even 2 shims, a metal one and a plastic one, along with a magnetic mat and a rubber embossing mat. It's nice having everything come with the machine. Based on what you get I think Amazons price is a good deal. Again, I'm very happy! ... show more

I played with it for about an hour after receiving it. Directions are very easy. The top plate bowed a bit after the 3rd run through, but I turned it over on the 4th and it fixed itself. There is a LOT of pressure so I expected it. I had watched a video before purchasing and it happened with them too and they explained what to do. The cuts are amazingingly clean. I have had mine only 3 days and have really put it to use finishing my Christmas cards. No problems at all!!! It is quiet, so very quiet!!! The manual is easy to use and I have watched several of the company's video's including on how to flip and turn the plates to help prevent warping, and I have very little warping. The only fault I have is with the plates, the sides and edges are rough and after handling them for several hours, I do have tender places on both hands. My hubby lightly sanded the side and edges and they are so much nicer to use, I think the company should have done this. I am still using my BigKick when I need only one or two small die cuts, much faster than starting, pausing and reversing the Gemini. Overall: This was a great purchase for me because of the ease of use and the clean cuts, I have Arthritis and cranking isn't fun. With every cranking machine I have owned, even using magnet or metal plate, some dies have to be turned on the cutting plate and run thru the machine several times. Painful and time consuming! With the Gemini my most intricate die cut cleanly the first time. ... show more

I'm writing this review one hour after I used this machine for the first time. I only passed my sandwiches through the machine SIX times and THIS is what happened!! (See photos.) I have been a paper crafter/stamper for over a decade. I have been using the Sizzix Big Shot for the past 8 years. I teach a card class once a month and do a LOT of die cutting. I thought the Gemini would help when it came to prepping for class. NO. I read through the instructions over and over again. I even typed up a spreadsheet so that I didn't make a mistake with my sandwich. I followed the instructions TO A "T". Here's what happened... I only cut with the dies that they sent for free with my machine. I was too afraid to put my OWN dies in the thing. Even though I was only cutting one sheet of basic-weight cardstock, the machine moaned and groaned as it fed through, cracking and popping all the way. I tried to hit the reverse button, but it didn't work. That was also concerning. I would think that if a sandwich is too THICK that the machine would spit it back out at you, but sadly that wasn't the case. I ended up with MAJOR WARPING on the clear cutting plates, the metal shim and the magnetic shim. When I tried to emboss with a die (the instructions tell you how to do this), it cut ALL THE WAY through the rubber shim on the first pass. Tore it to pieces. Here's another thing that happened that was TOTALLY CRAZY--I attached my spreadsheet on the machine with 6 pieces of scotch tape. It was perfectly flat against the machine with no gapping. When the sandwich fed through the machine, it was twisting and warping my spreadsheet to the point that I thought the tape was going to give way!! When the sandwich fed through, the spreadsheet went flat again. As far as how well it cuts the dies...it's total crap. Using the recommended sandwich, it STILL didn't cut every piece of the die all the way through. It took me 3 times as long as it should have to poke the pieces out of the paper with my piercer tool. Bottom line - if someone gave me this machine for free, I still wouldn't use it. P.S. I bought this item as a PRIME listing (2-3 days shipping, right?), but when I would track it, it said that my item would arrive on a certain day, then they postponed the delivery date 3 times. After 10 days, it still had not arrived so I called Amazon. They said that it was shipping from overseas and that was what was causing the delay. I told Amazon that it shouldn't have been a prime listing! Amazon probably contacted the seller because two days later it arrived. I was SOOOO excited.... until......... ... show more
