πŸš€ Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Cricut Explore Air 2 is highly rated by users for its exceptional quality and performance. It's seen as an excellent tool for cutting stickers and other materials with precision and ease. There are however major drawbacks with its accompanying software, Design Space, which most users find having glitches and been tedious to work with. The hardware's ease of setup and usage plus its cutting ability is applauded but serious concerns linger on its software.

Pros

  • 🌟 High-quality and sturdy machine.
  • 🌟 Excels at cutting stickers and other materials.
  • 🌟 Easy setup and calibration process.

Cons

  • πŸ‘Ž Design Space software is glitchy and complex to work with.
  • πŸ‘Ž Software alters file size and requires manual changes.
  • πŸ‘Ž The machine excludes necessary components such as the Fine-Point Blade on some instances.

Should I Buy It?

If you are looking for a sturdy cutting machine and you don't mind handling complex software, the Cricut Explore Air 2 could be a good purchase. It's essential, however, to try out the Design Space software before making a buying decision. So, it heavily leans on the user's preference and need.

  • Relatively easy to setup and get running
Color: Blue Style: Explore Air 2
I was ecstatic to finally get my Cricut Explore Air 2 in the mail and get it set up. Packaging was nice and secure and looked like a solid product coming out of the box. The packaging includes everything I needed to get started as well as some starter paper to try projects. It includes a few pages of very quick and easy set up as well as a more detailed booklet. They send you to their website to download the Cricut design space software. I'll admit, I had some difficulty following the tutorial for the first project and ended up restarting the program and couldn't find the initial tutorial project again. While that would normally be an issue, the software was very intuitive to use. Within a few minutes, I was able to get a set of stickers ready to print. After a short and easy calibration process, I was able to print my first batch of stickers. I'm very excited to continue to use the Cricut! This is going to save me lots of time as well as prevent sore hands from having to cut out tons of stickers! Would definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Holiday Superstar
Color: Blue Style: Explore Air 2
My family all got personalized gifts that I made using my new Cricut for the holidays. A photo album, t-shirt, mugs, ornaments, magnets, cards etc. I got the Cricut a week before Christmas and had so much fun making things. Excited to continue to leverage the Cricut to make more! The software is nice in that you can work on your computer then use your phone to communicate with the Cricut if you don't have it all in one room. (My computer is in the living room, Cricut in the garage). The software isn't super intuitive to use and has a bit of a learning curve, but I've found myself mostly using photoshop anyway and using the circut software for auto arranging and communicating with the device, vs. too much design within the app itself. The paid subscription doesn't seem super worth it unless you're looking to craft from other folks projects or use circuits fonts. Otherwise seems like lots of fun to use existing open source fonts you can download elsewhere and jam with using photoshop or illustrator. TL;DR - love it. great purchase, glad I went through with it and made for a very memorable holiday for me and my family. ... show more

  • A little perseverance was required, but the machine itself is very impressive
Color: Blue Style: Explore Air 2
I'm a novice. This is my first crafting machine of the sort. It took some work, but I was able to create some really fantastic stickers. Here are some of the roadbumps I ran into. 1. Bluetooth? Ugh, why doesn't it just use wireless? Better yet, how about an ethernet port? I ended up running a USB cable down a hallway with a blutetooth dongle on the end. I guess they don't figure people will try to edit on a PC in one room and cut in another. If I had a tablet, there's no way I would use that for Cricut Design Space. It's tedious enough with keyboard and mouse. 2. I was dealing with entirely imported jpg images, but I wanted to round the corners slightly. There are several decent youtube tutorials on how to make a template object that could slice off corners. The frustrating problem I ran into was that sometimes the slice would work, sometimes not. For whatever reason, it was often not slicing the upper left corner. If I rebuilt my template (which takes a few minutes), it would slice maybe 25% of the time and after a successful slice, the template wouldn't work a second time, so I would keep making the template over and over. This was very tedious for the dozens of different stickers I was trying to make. Eventually I had the idea of scaling everything up, then slicing, then shrinking it all back down and that solved the problem entirely. 3. So I bought Cricut's Printable Vinyl. This stuff is pretty amazing, but there aren't many helpful details on the product or on the website about the product. I searched up some youtube videos and some people are using a standard mat, some people are using a lightgrip mat. Given the color of the packaging (green), I'd think to use the standard mat, but how about just making that clear on the packaging or website? Also, what's the weight of the paper so I can set my printer up correctly? Again, not on the packaging or the website. I was a little worried that the vinyl cuts might be a little rough, since I'd been making test cuts on paper for a few days and cuts through paper were a little iffy. But using the correct setting (custom, printable vinyl), the cuts came out perfect. Also, I eventually learned to use a standard mat and set my HP Officejet 200 Mobile to Specialty Paper - Matte. I was extremely impressed with the results. Cutting on something other than paper really showed off how incredible this machine is. The Cricut brand Printable Vinyl is a very high quality product and even when I stuck it to some Lego bricks slightly misaligned (several times), I was able to pull it off and re-stick it without damaging the vinyl at all. And it doesn't leave any residue either. Lots of work just for a one-of gift idea, but now that I have it, I can probably find uses for this machine in the future. ... show more
