  • First electric guitar
Size: GI-155 Valley Color: Black
Received everything Everything works as intended. This is a great stater kit for me to learn how to play and also how to adjust to my liking once I am comfortable playing it. The string height is higher than my acoustic guitar. Which I need to get adjusted but that's no problem as I'm still just two months into playing guitar. This was a good price with the discounts. Sounds ok for learning. The guitar does have some weight to it. I've looked at the videos and read the comments and still took a chance. ... show more

  • My daughter's fav!
Size: GI-150 Canyon Color: Pink
Few things in the world are as awesome as seeing your 15-year old daughter play Sweet Child O Mine or Thunderstruck. While the amp on this would never be confused with something at the Shoreline Amphitheater, it is more than strong enough for a stater and single use practice in your room (by yourself lol). She doe NOT need a larger amplifier no matter what you kids say until they are convinced this is their road to riches. The guitar is sturdy with good strings, is tunable, and works just fine for a first electric ax! ... show more

  • Bought for son
Size: GI-155 Valley Color: Blue
I don’t know anything about guitars; but my son was very impressed. He is a natural musician, and he likes the quality of the instrument.

  • Great Sound!
Size: GI-150 Canyon Color: Pink
My daughter has already been able to play several songs on her new electric guitar! Definitely worth the money!

  • Son decided to play guitar
Size: GI-150 Canyon Color: Redburst
Seems to work well enough, he's been using it off and on. I got an electric guitar hoping it would keep his interest longer than an acoustic. The value is there for somebody just starting out, since a used guitar on Facebook cost almost as much as this whole set combined

  • Good beginners kit for the deal. Pickups overall dark and mushy but serviceable when coil split.
Size: GI-155 Valley Color: Red
For the price, especially with the discount coupon, this is a good kit for a beginning guitarist or for youth that you do not want to bang up an expensive instrument. It does come with everything you need to get started on electric guitar except for a capo, although all the included items are relatively cheap in quality. The fit and finish of the wood and parts is overall surprisingly nice for the price. However, it was surprisingly light and also shorter than my other guitars. The lightness of the tonewood, probably in conjunction with the choice of humbuckers, is probably what causes the less than stellar tone. The action also was just OK. I am guessing that these are not setup to a specific standard based on other reviewers complaining about the action; the one I received, the action was very low and easy to play, perhaps even too low, making the strings feel too loose. As someone who sets up my own guitars, I would probably opt to raise the action a little to make it all a little more snappy in reaction, but I was giving this as a gift to a friend so left it as is. In terms of the tone, I would characterize the less than stellar tone as dark and mushy. Since I typically play high end guitars, I went in with an open mind realizing this kit guitar literally costs 5% of my cheapest guitar. To be fair, I plugged in a name-brand headphone amp that I was familiar with and did an A-B test against my cheapest electric guitar. Even when not on an overdriven setting, this kit guitar just sounded muddled when both coils on the humbuckers were enabled. It also was noticeably quieter, although maybe this could be solved by raising the humbuckers. It is also less resonant, probably due to the light tonewood. That said, when the coils were split, the bridge humbucker actually started to approach a good pickup. It was pretty responsive and cleanish. Still not sparkling and bell-like, like what I get out of my vintage pickups, but serviceable. The other thing I noticed was that it did not hold its tune as consistently as my other guitars. I had to adjust several of the strings regularly to keep it tuned up during one play session. I am hoping that evens out as the strings break-in, or perhaps I am just too used to nice strings that stay in tune. Despite all those knocks, the big question to ask is whether the guitar would make it fun for someone to play. I bought this for a good friend who had expressed interest in trying to learn. He reports back that he has played it every night since I handed it over. With that in mind and due to the price, this is a pretty good deal for a kit guitar, despite all the nitpicks I mention. It seems to be a good entry point for a beginner or if you want one you can beat up without worrying about the value. ... show more
