I'll start with the construction, which is very simple. Just follow the directions and you'll be OK. They are all in little pictures, so if you have someone in the house who likes putting things together you're golden, but if not It does come with a little card you can scan if you would like to see a construction video. Either way, do give yourself at least 40 minutes, but it goes together quite well. And it's a very tall, sturdy, heavy, complete tree. The carpet is soft, that micro plush sort of softness, and the two little hanging baskets are sturdy and swivel about. Note that they do not have a bottom of any sort, so the cat will hang by his or her own weight, which they do tend to like. However, if your cat claws a lot they may claw through it, or if over time if the fabric wears through you're going to have to probably just remove the basket. The scratching posts consist of a uncovered pole that you wrap the scratching material around and Velcro on. It can be a little loose. Hypothetically, it should be replaceable, but you are probably going to have to be creative. Still, one of those "office carpet" squares that you can buy at the dollar store, cut to shape and with a little bit of Velcro glued on, should do it. This doesn't take as much room as trees that provide more of a stairstep structure, but the cats will have to climb from level to level, and it's quite a distance between the last two. If your cat doesn't like to climb you should probably get one where they can kind of hop from level to level instead. And the carpet is white cream, as they always are, so be prepared to vacuum it if your cat does not match the color. (Mine definitely do not). Lastly, my cats took one look at "the new thing in the house" and shunned it on principle, as usual. I sprayed it with some catnip spray, and that solved that problem. So far so good. It was pretty easy to put together. All the parts were there, nothing missing. It took probably 30 minutes. My little cat, "El Gato" (cat in Spanish) is a little skiddish even though she's had a perfect life for the past 6 years with us. She is a rescue cat though, but we got her very young. Found in a parking lot....anyway: She is very slow to warm up to things. These pictures are of the first hour after putting it together. She loves the little enclosed box. I'll probably drill a hole in the back and put a cat warming padded bed in there for her and run the cord out the back. She sleeps in a little cat warmer bed and she loves that. So this being enclosed and warm will be her new favorite place, I bet. So far she hasn't gone all the way to the top, but I've learned to just let her do it on her own time. So far she's gone to level 2 out of 4 and spent most of the time in the box. It seems like a great cat tree. I didn't use the strap where you have to drill it to your wall. I just put a 30 lbs weight on the bottom and it's stable enough with that. I'm not a huge fan of drilling into my walls. I have it in front of a window anyway. Overall I am happy with this product and more importantly my cat likes it also. I'm honestly, shocked she had anything to do with it so soon. That's a very good sign. She's a snowshoe and they like high places, so I'm sure she will make he way all the way up to the top soon. I would recommend this for someone that spoils their cats, lol. ... show more

This is a really nice cat tree! I like that it's pretty symmetrical, it fits in the space we have for it nicely. It's tall enough to make the cats happy, but doesn't take up a ton of foot space. I love the side bowls and so do the cats, they love to curl up and sleep there. I felt like putting this together was about average in difficulty for something like this. The hardware is solid, and I'm pretty sure this will last for a long time. I wouldn't say it's absolutely the highest quality cat tree I have ever purchased, but it's a good value for the price. I would consider ordering another one if I needed it. ... show more

My kitties had their 1 year birthday and I got them this big present. We have a couple of smaller trees and they do seem to enjoy being high up on things (probably to stay out of reach of the puppy!) so I thought they would enjoy this. It was a hit right away. My big boy likes to go in the box and baby girl likes to generally climb all over it, attack brother in said box, and use the scratchy poles. It was a lot of parts to attach, but nothing difficult at all. The diagram booklet is good except that it looks like they instruct you to put the piece with the wall tether on the wrong side. The scratch pads you have to wrap around the pole and secure with velcro and these were a little hard to get really tight, but it was doable with a couple of tries and getting my technique right. It's mostly covered in a soft, plushy fabric, except for the 2 poles with scratchy sisal stuff. The 2 baskets are not that big. My little girl (about 7 or 8 pounds) can fit curled up, but my big boy (about 10 pounds) is too big. He hasn't even tried, but I can tell by how she barely fits, that he would never fit. I'm not sure they are kitties that like a loose bottomed thing like that, but we shall see. Mostly it's fun to see them climbing around and my boy loving the hidey box! It also feels very sturdy and I do not plan to use the wall tether. It does not seem needed. ... show more
