  • Pleasantly surprised
Color: Black
As a musician, I tend to have a bit of a bias against "toy" instruments as they are usually very poor quality and above all else, lack any real playability. My two-year-old son has shown some interest in percussion (or maybe just hitting things with sticks), so I got him this set for his birthday. Upon unpacking the box, I was very surprised at the quality of the wood. It's by no means a top-of-the-line build, but they're built like a REAL set. Upon assembling the kit and starting to tune the heads, it turns out the sound quality is absolutely solid! It really delivers a good sound for what it is and I am very happy with what we got for the price! My son is quite happy with it as well. Next investment will be drum lessons. The only drawbacks are fairly minor, especially when keeping in mind the "toy" aspect of this kit. For one, the kick pedal is noticeably lower-quality than the rest of the kit. Not only is the metal somewhat flimsy, but the tension is insane on it and is not easily adjusted. It's uncomfortable to use (yes I've tried it) and I find it very clunky and awkward. Next, the mounts aren't really great for playing. The way the kit sets up puts the snare up in a rack position with the tom and the cymbal is perched awkwardly on a straight mount above the back of the kick drum. This kit could benefit from an actual snare stand and a cymbal arm - and maybe a hi hat! But all my musician nitpicking aside, this kit is actually really, really good for the price. One could easily tweak it into a more playable configuration if they really need the kit to play like a serious one. I'm pretty sure my two-year-old is fine with this as it is. ... show more

Color: Blue
Sturdy Set For a young child who is just starting out in the world. It's clear to my son who is 2.8 that his drum set is not a toy It is infact an instrument of percussion. He seems very proud every time he makes statement. He takes good care of them and loves to wail on them on them as hard as he can. After about 5 minutes maybe 10 max... He's off to the next thing, could be a hairball from a cat (which he insists in feces) or a facetime message from his grandparent.... Lord Help ME, take the wheel.. TAKE THE Wheel!!! Why GOD, WHY did little Michael need a louder than hades fullsize mf drumset shrunk by Rick Morranis From "Honey I Shrunk the Kids" just small enough for a child, but big enough to cause early permanent hearing loss without a question. Well, thats ok because we wanted little Michael to be a painter before he pursued any other careers. All fun aside it is a good idea to have some cans for your kids ears, ear protection from gun stores to walmart and meijer, ear protection of the varietal nature can be found at local gas stations at times as well as Drug Stores, CVS, WALLGREENS, RITEAID, Yee Old Pharmacia You get the Idea Protect your childrens ears for god sake the cymbol on this thing is "Bright" to say the least ... show more

  • Great buy
Color: Black
My great-nephew is 21/2 yrs old, a little small for his age. This drum set is the perfect size for him. I couldn't be more pleased. The only size issue is the foot pedal for the base drum. His legs aren't quite long enough to press it while he's on the stool, so he has to get off and press down hard. The pedal is a little stiff. But all of this is fine. He'll certainly grow into it. The height and positioning of the drums is perfect. The quality of the set is great. It looks like a real musical instrument. Bright, shiny black drums. The sound is excellent. There's not too much distinction between the drums, except for the bass. But they still sound good. And loud. Just what a 2 yr old wants. But they're not TOO LOUD, which I was afraid of. The cymbal sounds real too. My only complaint about the cymbal is that the lug screw on top comes loose a lot, but it's not a big deal. We just tighten it back up with a few twists of our fingers. My nephew loves playing these drums several times a day, and it's been over a month since he got them. He just bangs away. He really enjoys himself. ... show more

  • Outstanding beginner set
Color: Black
We LOVE this drum set! Our son is just about 29 months old. He's been building his own drum kits, very creatively, from any item he thought might work. Finally we decided to spring for the real deal. We didn't want to spend a fortune but didn't want cheap, either. Gammon had a couple sets from which to choose. There was one just like this but with two more drums, for not too much more money. We were considering that one heavily. Then we reminded ourselves that we are shopping for a two year old and went with the smaller set. We couldn't be happier!! He's been in drum heaven all day!! It was very easy for my husband to assemble. It's the perfect size for my very tall son. The construction is durable and solid. If you're looking for a basic drum set to encourage a child who has a drum bug, look no further - this is it! ... show more

  • Good beginner set for 5-6 year olds
Color: Black
The quality of the set is just fine though the cymbal has very little sustain given the smaller size. Though at this stage that really shouldn’t matter too much. The quality is good the drums were easy to assemble and don’t take up much room. The issue for us is that I underestimated the lack of size and it’s a bit small for our 7 year old. Our younger child though who is currently 5 fits this set much better for size. ... show more

  • Not very good quality but it works
Color: Blue
Overall poor workmanship and quality but if you play drums and know how to tune them it, you can make them sound reasonable for your little one. I have a two year old and he has been sitting with me at my drums since he was born. I wanted something that he could be low enough to start playing the bass drum with his foot. If you don't play drums and think you will open this up, set it up and have it sound good, you will be disappointed. The veneer is poorly glued on. And pedal had to be oiled. Oh and this little thing is almost as loud as my regular drum set so you will want some sort of dampening on the drumheads and the one cymbal. But for $100 you can't expect much. I would not likely buy the bigger set they make based when he gets bigger on this quality ... show more
