I bought this camera to monitor my hedgehog when I'm away. Overall, the camera is very good, easy to set up, and of very good quality. It's so nice that you can get the app and monitor right from your phone. The night vision is amazing and clear, great for nocturnal animals. I got this camera to have in my room when I’m not home, works so well I had to buy more. The sound is great, coming from both sides. Motion detection is always working. I bought this camera so I could check in on my kittens while I was out. The product was easy to set up and had a clear picture. After about a month or so the device wouldn’t connect to my WiFi anymore. After contacting their customer support and working through their troubleshooting steps it still wouldn’t work. So they sent me a new device which has been working well so far! It has connection issues every now and then, meaning the live footage is very slow and doesn’t always record the motion detections but it may just be my WiFi since it’s not the greatest. These are my first cameras. I just want something that I can see replay without paying subscriptions and affordable. These cameras are exceeding my expectations. Easy to set up, looks sleek on the outside. I’m only using micro tf card for storing video recordings. So far it works great. The app is great as well.     • Overall a nice camera but with one major defect.

Overall I have to give the camera a fairly high mark. It works and has clear imagery. Setup was simple and fast and the ability to set the motion activation area is a plus so you can still see other areas without them triggering the camera falsely. But despite the nice features it has a MAJOR defect that I just found out about today. Apparently when on my way to work we had a temporary power outage. It lasted only 5 minutes, but the cameras were down all day because of this. It seems that The cameras will only try to connect to wifi a short time then never try again. From ~8:12 am to 4:30PM my cameras were down. Once home I connected to my wifi via my phone no problems. So I power cycled the cameras and they quickly connected perfectly. This is a major problem but it gets even worse. While sitting disconnected the cameras will not record events. So I have no idea what happened all day at home. Not good for security cameras with local storage and no excuse either. This is a major oversight by GALAYOU and one I hope they plan on addressing with a firmware update, if they can even be updated. --------<EDIT>------------- Had a somewhat lengthy conversation with customer service and let's just say it was not very helpful. They wanted to blame MY network for the problem and not their product. A device should never stop asking for an IP address on a network till it gets one. My server takes around 7 minutes to boot, so for that 7 minutes DHCP services are down. It's simply inexcusable that a device would only sent requests for so long then just stop. At a bare minimum it should reboot and then try again. Here is part of the conversation I had with them. ------------------------ From: Me Date: 2023-05-23 10:30 To: Margie Subject: Re: Urgent, need your reply-Message about your camera-Celia The issue I have is really in two parts. First, the device seems to only try to obtain an IP address for a short time after booting up. My network is run by a slower 12th gen(~2013) Dell Poweredge so it can take up to 7 minutes for the DHCP server to be up and running after a power outage. So the cameras appear to stop trying to get an IP address before that. Secondly, Absent a connection the cameras don't record events. If they have powered up and have local storage I would expect them to still capture events. Then when they get an ip address return to normal operation. I don't know if it's just the IP address they are waiting for or an active internet connection. Either way they likely have all the settings they need saved locally so there really is no reason to wait on recording. For part 2, the camera is a wireless WiFi verison, connected wirelessly to the router, and then install the application on your phone and watch the stored video recorder files so that you may not have the video files while you are disconnected. This is also true for other brands of security cameras, such as Wyze, Reolink, Yi's cameras, and not only Galayou's cameras have this problem. I hope you can understanding, as a developing company. If there is a mature enough technology that can make the WiFi camera save videos to SD card even when the network is disconnected, our company will also update the technology in time, because the customer's demand is the driving force of our production. Based on what you said, I think a smart battery wireless camera would be more suitable for your needs. Battery cameras can work for months on a single charge. Overall, the price of this camera is very low, and his functions can meet the daily use. Other devices can connect fine even with the cameras just sitting there. The cameras themselves can connect just fine too once the server is fully up and they are powered up AFTER the server is running. It's a problem with the cameras no longer asking for an IP address after some amount of time. ------------------------------------- The rest of the conversation was simply them asking me for the SN of the devices to check issues. Which the only real issue is the device not connecting to the network after failing to get a DHCP response after some time. Which should be a simple firmware fix. -----------------<6/1 edit>----------------- They now say they will work on the issue and will eventually patch the issue. I have bumped by rating accordingly.
