Update: This seeds are hard to germinate, they need to be on top of the soil and need constant moisture . It took about 4 weeks until the seeds started . They all germinated if not almost all of them ,they just need some extra care and lots of patience . Also have to mention that customer service is great they responded to the previous comment and sent me another bag of seeds to try it . not one of the seeds germinated I gave them optimal conditions, planted them indoor, and none of the seeds germinated ... show more

    • Easy to grow if you do the following.....
The trick to getting Stinging Nettle seeds to germinate is to 'stratify' the seeds first. What I did was, put a paper towel in a plate, added moisture, put the seeds on the paper towel, covered the plate with clear/waterproof wrap and let it sit in the fridge for 3 or 4 weeks. At this point, the seeds are conditioned (stratified). NOW, bring them out of the fridge and let them sit on your counter for a couple of weeks. When you see the green appearing, put the entire sheet of paper towel outside ON the ground. Don't bury it. Sprinkle the seeds/paper towel with a bit of dirt (to help hold the moisture). BANG. Viola, watch them take off. When they get bigger, you can cut up the paper towel into sections and expand the growing area. Next season you will have more Stinging Nettle than you know what to do with. It's important to let the roots get established before cutting expanding the growing area. I'd say I got (at least) an 80% germination rate. ... show more

But eventually they germinated. Found larger bags to the local store and planted those as well. now let's hope they don't get devoured by critters. they all germinated. or almost all

Oh, I always wanted to grow stinging nettle. I thought they were strictly spring bloomers and required winter scarification and special treatment. Well, I have tried to follow directions which I now have forgotten. They started coming up later than expected in a partly sunny spot, partly shady. And they're thriving in Northern California August summer temperatures that have been getting into the mid and high eighties. I'm thrilled. Was a bit dismayed when I started these this spring and there didn't seem to be many seeds and they got off to a slow start so I put some in the fridge to cold stratify and that seemed to help. As soon as I put the plants outside the growth shot up quite rapidly. FYI: these are a host for the red admiral butterfly so if you plant them with a nectar flower, you just may attract some. **Be careful not to touch the stems!!** I put them in a separate area of my garden to avoid this because it STINGS as the name implies when you brush up against the plants. Seeds are great quality. Update: midsummer and the plants are very tall. If you re pot them they will grow quite tall and large. ... show more
