I would recommend using a very light plastic tray or plastic cup to use on the scale. Lightweight and durable, it hasn't had any issues being toted around with coins. Wish I would have read into it a little better only because it won't register anything below .01 of a gram so when it comes to coins, or jewelry I can't be as precise as I would like to be. I’ve read all the reviews on this scale and everything worked exactly like it described. I had no problems with the magnetic door and with the weight in it I turned it upside down and shook it and nothing opened and the magnets didn’t fall out so overall it did what it was supposed to.
