I read many of the reviews and I believe some people didn't understand "self warming". This is not like a heating pad - the bed doesn't warm up. The cats body heat is reflected back up into their body to keep them warm. I have a 19 ye old cat who has always been tiny with no body fat so I got her a small one. She loves it since she can lay in the window again. Having that extra body heat reflected back into her helps her get up and walk easier with her arthritis. When she wasn't on it, my younger 9 yr old cat stole it and wouldn't lay in his favorite bed anymore. So I got him the large size and put it on his bed. He is using his bed again. My 3rd cat is new to the family and stretches out when he lays. No cat bed holds him. So I got him one of these to coax him to sleep where I have room for a bed. We'll see if it works or not. I also bought 2 more small ones to fit on the 2 window seats. It is cold there but all of the cats love laying there watching the neighborhood and soaking up the sunlight. These self warming blankets are great there. The side laying on the blankets is warm and the sun keeps the upper side warm. As for the crinkling noise, most cats don't mind it. Got this a couple weeks ago for my senior cat hoping something that retains heat would be soothing on her old bones. I loved the idea that this was convertible and could function as a mat or a bed. Unfortunately she didn’t seem to care for it, which I thought odd because she’ll lay on anything- laundry, grocery bags, you name it. She’s finicky so I just shrugged and figured she needed to warm up to it. This morning I realized that she kind of skirts around it or runs past it- I think the issue was the long shaggy faux fur- it either scares her or she doesn’t like the feeling. I bought this self warming pad for my one year old litter mates I refer to as the Purr Sisters because they were always in my warm spot when I returned to bed in the night after a potty break. I hated to move them and I ended up moving over to a cold spot in my bed. This self warming pad was the answer to this dilemma. I put the pad on the cold side of the bed to start the night and the Purr Sisters never moved off of the pad the whole night. They prefer the pad to their usual spots on the cat tree during the day too. We bought the small for a regular sized cat, but when the kitty sits in this after placing it in a chair she likes, the sides of the mat point upward. We later came back and purchased the next size up and that one lays flat better than the small. Especially if you place this in a chair that already has cushions in it. The self-warming does work and the cats will use this, but not all the time. We're into February now, and it's about 50/50 with the usage. I bought this because our 13 year old princess developed a bit of a limp. I was hoping this self heating pad would help and be much safer than a plug in. I'm mixed on if it actually warms or not. I tested it out by leaving my bare feet on it while watching tv. It did feel kinda warm but definitely not hot. Our Princess was sus for about a week but finally took to it. It's pretty soft and doesn't make much sound when she lays on it. I haven't put it through the wash but for a cat, it's easy enough to shop vac. This is our second purchase after adding a Prince to our family. The Princess currently possesses both lol. Not overly durable or super hot but decent for an additional snooze location. I bought three for our cats to limit the number of hairballs on my couches (we have four cats but one prefers to sleep on the cat tree over the couches). I was worried because every time we bought each of them an actual pet bed with walls, they always hated it and just steered clear. It's been really cold this winter, so I was worried as they're cuddled up on my pillows which don't provide much heat. I've placed two of these upstairs near our bedrooms (they're not allowed in the bedrooms due to some bad behavior) and one on the couch. I was surprised at how quickly they went to the beds. I find at least one of them laying on these at all times of the day. I'm assuming the self-heating works really well as one of our cats has an obsession with the guest bed and if you leave the door open for even a minute, he'll run in and sleep there. Yet I've left the door open multiple times and haven't had him enter unless he's just roaming around the room. Instead, he'll lay on this bed and look into the room, even if the door has been open for over an hour. Overall, they are serving their purpose and were a great buy. I've purchased two of these self-warming beds. They are great! My cat loved her's. She recently had kittens (this bed was where she wanted to give birth as it was comfortable for her). This self warming cat bed is a huge winner with all of our kitties. Came today & our girl was on it within 5 minutes of putting it down. Her younger siblings joined shortly after. They weren’t even interested in the box it came in! For a small size, it’s roomy enough for two, but 3 is a crowd. This bed didn’t have any odor whatsoever & didn’t have a loud crinkly sound like their other self warming bed from another brand. Those beds took them over a week to finally lay on. These are reasonably priced and definitely buying more of these. Hopefully their now-fixed, feral dad will like something soft to sleep on in one of his outdoor shelters. ... show more
