  • Absolutely Awesome Mattress Combo
Size: Twin (75"L x 39"W x 2"Th)
I bought both the Fuli mattress and Tatami mat, so I will be posting this in both places. I have a terrible back and was finding that I was sleeping on the floor more than I wasn’t, so I went in search for a floor mattress. I landed on this Fuli floor mattress, and Tatami mat combo and I have never looked back. Since I am older, and have the back issues that I have, I was finding it difficult to get up off the floor after my great nights sleep! So I had to come up with some modifications, this is what I do now: We have a king size memory, foam mattress, that my husband swears by, but I find very painful. So I added a piece of twin size plywood to my side of the bed (on top). On top of that, I added a 1 inch memory foam mat that came out of our sleep number bed when we abandoned it. On top of that I have a king size comforter that I have folded in half so it is twin size. I use it kind of like a sleeping bag. I open it up put the Yatami mat on top of it, then I have my Fuli floor mattress, followed by a twin size top sheet, and then I fold the rest of the king size comforter over the top as my comforter. Because this is on top of the king-size bed, I no longer have trouble getting out of bed, because I don’t have to get up off the floor, I probably could go without the 1 inch foam mat and be comfortable with just the comforter, floor mattress and the Tatami mat, but since I have it, it just added another layer of comfort. My Fuli mattress/Tatami are the regular twin size. If I had it to do again, I would buy the extra long instead. At some point I may splurge! Would I buy this Fuli mattress and Tatami mat combo again? Certainly! After all my reviews, before purchasing, this was the best, and was money well spent! Whether you sleep on this on the floor as it’s designed, or place it on top of an existing mattress with a piece of plywood to simulate the floor, this will offer you a great nights sleep! ... show more

  • Nice, a BIT of a hassle.
Size: Twin (75"L x 39"W x 2"Th)
I've been sleeping on this futon nearly every night for the past year. The first few days, I was sore, but then I wasn't. I don't use a pillow with it because that feels weird. It's comfy, it was pretty nice on a low/medium-pile rug, now I have it on vinyl flooring with just a thick blanket under me for some cushioning on my joints. I may buy a tatami mat for it because I want just a LITTLE more cushion. This all being said, I'm a front/side sleeper, even though I try not to be. I fall asleep with no pillow and my stuffed animal on my side, and I usually wake up in the morning on my front, using the stuffed animal as a pillow. I kind of relish the nights I sleep in a real bed though. The cushioning just can't be beat. ALSO! It's not that easy to fold. It will come unfolded on its own. I keep mine hung over a portable clothing rack during the day. It's easy to care for: about once a week, I wash the little zipper cover I use and I hang the bare futon on the rack. I get my little portable space heater and turn that on for a while. Since I hang it up every day and heat it about once a week, I've never had a problem with mold or smell or anything. TL;DR it's a little more work than a mattress, and a little less comfortable, but it's comfy enough to sleep on every night and I have much more space in my room than if I had a bed! ... show more

  • Fantastic
Size: Full (75"L x 55"W x 2"Th)
First of all, there was a thank you note and a origami crane taped to the box which I LOVED!! Secondly, the actual product itself is so great. It’s comfortable, easy to roll up and store, and really improved the vibes in my room. Perfect addition to my space. Highly recommend

  • Ultimately seems worth it, even for us bigger folk
Size: Twin XL (83"L x 39"W x 2"Th)
---Eight Month Review Edit At Bottom--- This review covers this mattress and the companion XL Twin tatami. As such, this review will be posted in the tatami link as well. /futon combo 2/3 week review. Week one: Fell asleep easily, woke up often. Tatami is 3-panel folder. I notice the top/middle seam sometimes depending on how I hit it, and it can wake me up. Some hip soreness from where my weight settles on my hips on the setup. Week two: Hip soreness intensifies. Tried various ideas to help avoid that problem, but problem persists. Joel more stubborn so. . . Week three: very slight hip pain now. Hardly waking up. Infrequent Princess and the Pea moments. If I'd do anything different, it'd be to get a single panel tatami. I am averaging 230, 5'10" (maybe still 11" idk), 42.7 years of age. Perhaps I am blessed to be able to get up and down into that position. But I am adjusting quite well. And I believe this combo can work for anyone. Back pain no longer exists. I wake up, I get out of the tatami, I stand up, I don't feel as groggy. I want to get out of bed, not suffer in it. Tatami kicks my ass out of bed. Not because I am uncomfortable, but because my body somehow seems to realize now that bed is a part of my life, not my actual life. There's a lot more going on there that I cannot explain because I am just a mere, often self-absorbed mortal. But I kid you not. I'd rather have minor tenderness on my hip bones than to feel like my back is collapsing in on itself, as I had on several super firm mattress configurations. My setups over the last five years: 1) up till recently, some form of cheap memory foam mattress (or sometimes more expensive) on a frame. 2) #1 on the floor 3) thin mats on the floor 4) cot/mat combo, horrible horrible 5) tatami/futon #5 wins for me. Never truly appreciated the floor experience until I did what the Japanese and others have done forever and ever it seems. I could pack up my rig and travel with it if I want. The entire setup weighs about 15 pounds and collapses in on itself in a 3x3 square (or thereabouts). EDIT (eight month review update): I stand behind what I said. Still using the exact same combo as purchased originally. Other than the annoying seam in the tatami (which has nothing to do with the futon), I honestly cannot complain. Being on the floor has been a marked improvement in my general daily mobility. My legs and my health have seemed to benefit very much as a result of this change. I also have really bad sleep apnea/snoring. Except, apparently, according to my roommate who has no reason to lie about it, I don't snore since I've made this my sleeping setup. I would upgrade to a five star at this point, but the combo still needs work. Since this item was recommended as paired with the tatami at the time of purchase, I think it only fair to indicate that there is a slight compromise. You will have to find a place to settle where your hips, arms, shoulders don't rest on the seams, or you're going to probably wake up with a bit of pain and frustration. But still easy to get settled back in and back to sleep. The benefits seem to heavily outweigh the cons. ... show more
