The duct valve for 4-inch duct best installed in a horizontal position and inserted fully into the duct. This also applies to vertical installation.
  • GREAT FOR HOME USE The foam sealing on the damper reduces operation noise and provides extra air tightness. The back draught valve can be inserted into a non-flexible metal or plastic duct directly, but for flexible duct you need to use steel duct clamps to secure the backdraft damper.

Installed a new exhaust fan. There was no backdraft damper included in the box. Apparently they are extra. This was a perfect fit. Mine is 8”.

Size: 6 Inch
Does not fit well into standard 6 inch ducting. Had to really manipulate the duct ends. The real issue is the spring tension for the shutters. Too stiff. You need significant air velocity and pressure for them to open enough. These will really reduce the airflow if you don't alter the spring and bend them to be less restrictive. ... show more

The side which the damper halves open to is too short to fasten with screws. The damper swings far, and my 1/2 inch zip screws (on six-inch duct) were too long to allow the damper halves to swing unimpeded. If the people who built this thing added another inch to the 'downstream' side, this would be a useful product. However, since screws are forbidden in dryer vent installations (they snag lint, clog the pipe, and pose a fire danger), this product would be fine for that. But for anything where code calls for screws, don't buy this thing. ... show more

    • Kitchen Exhaust Backdraft Protector.

For 22 years I could feel winter cold air coming through the kitchen exhaust vent, same for hot air in the summer. I refreshed the kitchen and replaced the exhaust vent, the HD rep also suggested to replace the backdraft vent, but they were out of stock for a few days. I didn’t even know this device existed.
