  • Simple, sturdy, and speedy safe
Style: Keypad Lock Size: Small
I purchased this safe to store a full-size handgun (Glock 17 dimensions) and was pleased to find that it was large enough to also hold my CC pistol (Glock 42 dimensions) at the same time. Other reviews feature pictures of similar configurations. With my two pistols there is not enough room for spare magazines. The safe is quiet (no audible beeps when pressing the keys). The provided instructions were easy to follow in creating and storing a unique code. Access is very fast. This safe shipped with a steel security cable, keys, and batteries. Now, the provided batteries are not top of the line, but I used them just the same. I am interested to see how long they will last as I am in and out of this safe daily. I have considered buying this sort of safe for several years and wish I had done so sooner. The current pricing (<$50) is almost impossible to beat. **Update** the provided batteries lasted 3.5 mos. with daily usage. Replaced with higher quality batteries. We’ll see if they make it longer. ... show more

  • Sturdy, reliable safe... highly recommend
Style: Keypad Lock Size: Small
Love the safe itself, but get your own batteries. Pros: - Easily holds handgun (check for what size you own first though, but it seems like it would hold most sizes smaller than a 50-caliber). :) - Holds my handgun (in its holster), 2-3 extra clips (probably more), small flashlight, cable for safe (since I don't use it yet), & room to spare - Feels very sturdy, not light/cheap - Comes with 2 keys for when the batteries need to be replaced, or if you forget your code - Very easy to set your own code (I believe you can choose between 4-8 digits, so you can customize for how many digits you want to enter...obviously, the more digits you use, the more difficult it is for someone to just guess the combination) Cons: - This doesn't apply to the safe itself, but the batteries that came with it ended up corroding & leaking clear liquid & brown goo after only 6 months. I suggest getting your own batteries (the ones that came with it were the brand Precell or a similar name, I think) ... show more

  • This is a very good safe for the size and money
Style: Keypad Lock Size: Small
This is a very good safe for the size and money. I got it to fit in a nightstand where I put my Glock 26. The gun fits no problem and there is room for spare mags. It feels very secure and its a good solid metal. I have much more expensive gun safes in my house and this one feels nearly as good. I have seen some cheap safes that do not feel as good as this one. I like the combo setting. It seems to work well and there is a back up key if it doesnt work. The reason I gave this 4 stars is because it doesn't tell you when the battery is going. I make sure to test the safe every night before I go to bed. I would not go a month without testing it. I do not trust batteries and I don't trust electronics when it comes to life and death situations so please test this safe a lot. As far as how easy is it to break in? I haven't tried and I did some searches and didn't come up with anything. Based on my experience with other gun safes - they are deterrents. If someone wants in they will get in. But if you have a kid/teenager the only way they are breaking in is to break/ruin the safe so if they are the type of kid to do that you really need one of the safes that doesn't move and is nearly impossible to crack. Otherwise this type of safe is very good and will keep a kid out who searches your drawer but won't spend time trying to break into the safe. Teaching your kids about firearms is much more important than keeping a gun locked up. I dont think any of the safes in this price range or even a few hundred dollars more are going to be any better or give you extra protection. If you need something better you need to jump up into the $1000 price range and look at the top brands out there. ... show more

  • Great value for pistol storage
Style: Keypad Lock Size: Small
Have used the safe for only a few days, however, first impression is this is a good safe way to protect guns from quick access from kids or leaving in vehicles for short periods. Of course, anyone with intent can sled-hammer their way into anything. The combo works as fast as any possible lock can and if gun is needed then you can get to it fast enough considering the need is not right at you, in which case you have not done all your home security preps. The case is heavy steel and the lock is good and the size will hold two 1911's and a couple of clips. There could be a little more padding added since clips and guns can move around in safe when moving the safe but for the most part the padding is pretty good. I would purchase again and will probably buy two, one for auto and one mounted in the home since the price and quality is very good for my purpose of securing a gun when not CC. ... show more

  • Top Notch Safe, First Alert 5200DF 9.5/10
Style: Keypad Lock Size: Small
I bought the First Alert 5200DF for the purpose of storing a handgun and 2 spare magazines. My purpose is to secure my home defense pistol, due to having curious children in the home. This will fit a full size handgun inside with room to spare. I have a Springfield XD 4" and 3" Sub Compact model and they both perfectly with room for 1 magazine. Both pistols have weapon lights on them. If I were to remove the lights I'd have enough room for additional spare magazines It works as described. The instructions and programming the combination are straight forward and easily done in less than five minutes tops. The locking mechanism looks very stout it appears to be casted vs stamped sheet metal like other brands, I was very impressed with that feature. If you're looking for an affordable safe to secure valuables or a firearm. This safe should be considered as a viable option. I own two other small safes which were much more expensive. The First Alert safe is of the same quality and craftsmanship as other top tier safes. ... show more
