I wasn't sure what type of safe to purchase...one like this one or a much heavier safe that someone would have needed to deliver and install. I'm glad I chose this one. This is perfect for a small place such as an apartment or keeping in a man cave. It has some weight to it so even if someone did want to walk off with it they couldn't without some type of fore knowledge of the safe and a plan. Especially if you mount it to the wall like I did. This thing is going no where unless they cut out the wall to go with it. It is top heavy so securing to the wall is a good idea. The finger print reader was very easy to set up as well as entering a code. You can turn the sound off by entering 3 then enter on the face of the dial. I have had this safe for almost one month now and have not had to setup the finger print reader or a new code since first installation. The finger print reader has been flawless reading my thumb very quickly and the first time every time. I took a little advise from other reviewers and added motion sensing lights to the inside. They are magnetic so no worries about using double sided tape or anything similar. They light up the safe and the little cabinet at the top very well. The safe arrived in only a few days after ordering it. I wasn't expecting it for another week when it was dropped off at my front door. There was slight damage to the box due to shipping. I thought it was normal due to the weight involved. Thanks to really good packing, there was no damage to the safe, not even a scratch. The price was good and customer support was fantastic. I received a card with the safe to email them and they sent me the door organizer for free just for contacting them. I now have multiple long guns and hand guns plus magazines nice and organized in one place. I have showed a couple of friends who were impressed with the design and quality of this safe. If you don't want to fork out a bunch of money for a very heavy safe that someone needs to use a machine to install, then look no further than this one. So far this product is working well for me. I needed a locker that could store 1-2 PC carbines/ rifles, 3-4 handguns and 1-2 tactical shotguns/ shockwaves plus associated equipment, ammo etc. There are not a lot of instructions to set things up but there is a video and I was able to figure things out reasonably well. Came with a liner on the floor and on the front wall plus some foam barrel retainers for long arms that were a bit too high/ narrow to properly fit my Shockwave or Ruger. Used a box of ammo at the bottom to help. Hopefully the length works better with a rifle. Love the three modes of access because I was worried about the finger reader but if anything the coded access is redundant because the fingerprint reader seems to work well. My wife especially appreciates the ease of entry in case of emergency, I will be muting the beep as it's quite loud. Fit and trim was pretty good, this is not a safe to deter a professional thief but it will keep the guns safe from the kids and a casual intruder. Think of it as resistant vs. theft proof. Someone will definitely have to have a game plan as it is bulky/heavy and the right tools would have to be brought/ found to breech it. Strongly suggest attaching to wall if you have mischievous kids but pretty stable on its own. Not planning to expand my collection by much more or space would definitely become an issue so consider your current/ future plans. The locked inner shelf wont accommodate more than one gun some records, a few mags and ammo boxes. Service was great and Alan was very attentive and diligent.     • Good Alternative to High-end Safes & Low-end Cabinets

PROS: - Good pricepoint - Good Fit & Finish (metal working) - Sturdy firearm safe-cabinet hybrid - Flexibility to increase security & sturdiness - Customer service (so far) CONS: - Delivery timing notification (more detail below) - Paint-coating (more below) - Instructions Out of the box and installed the Moutec Large Biometric Rifle Safe, New and Improved Fingerprint Long Gun Safe for 5-7 Rifle Shotgun for Home, Quick Access Gun Storage Cabinet is a very good alternative to high-end safes and lower-end gun cabinets with very good theft deterence options. PRICE - When you compared to the costs and features of low-end cabinents versus safes, the Moutec's price-point as a safe-cabinet hybrid is reasonable. BUILD - The Moutec is essentially a 14 guage steel box with a much heavier door that has 5 bolts (1 top, 3 left, 1 bottom) with 2 hinges on the right. The door is slightly recessed (a nice security feature) and the Moutec is HEAVY at 108 LBS empty. MOUNTING the Moutec is ESSENTIAL as the stout, heavy door, when open, will tip the Moutec over. In general the metal working fit and finish is quite good BUT the paint application on my Moutec has a few problems on the inside back wall at center and on the outside left wall towards top. Given my Moutec is not sitting in the open and it's in a dry place I'm ok with this. This does not appear to be a general problem in reviews but is a quality control miss. SECURITY-STURDINESS-FLEXIBILITY - The Moutec provides alot of flexibility for mounting and how it's mounted can increase its sturdiness and security. The lag bolts (included), mounted into the 3 rear wall holes are a "safety minimum" for tipping over. But the difference between having drywall ripped out or not will be if you mount to cement and/or to a stud. In my case I drilled a 4th back wall hole higher up just below the security lock box and went with 4 - 2x4s between the studs, using 3" deck hex screws for the studs, 2.5" for the Moutec wall holes (including washer &lock-washer). A 5th 2x4 was used right at the top to prevent any finger-hold leverage for pulling on the Moutec. The 2x4s also allowed a base board to be cleared. In additon with 2 - 2.5" through the floor holes the 108LB Moutec is not going anywhere fast. CUSTOMER SERVICE has so far been responsive and reasonable for US onshore timezones. The webite looks mainland China based so registering to extend your warranty from 1-3 years will have a different look and feel and may leave you asking questions if your warranty has been submitted-registered. INSTRUCTIONS - My instructions are missing some steps for doing the initial re-set of the lock codes. MAKE SURE to register fingerprints as any fingerprint will initially open the safe until you do. Also when code, fingerprint or key has "unlocked" the Moutec, then turn the lock's "outer-dial" 30 degrees and then the lock handle 45 degrees. Reverse steps to close. The numbers appear reversed in my instructions. With a little experimentation it was not hard to figure out and and write down corrections in the instructions. Customer service and "online videos" may be quicker, if questions. DELIVERY - My safe came 2 days early without notification and was sitting in the driveway with "rifle safe" on the box as the neighborhood drove by. No one is looking to advertise firearm storage at their house so this is a customer service and security miss. Otherwise the Moutec came well packaged in carboard, bublewrap and foam materials. The box was punctured in one place but there was no damage to the Moutec. SUMMARY - If you're a 1st time gun owner or getting back into shooting sports this is a very good starting point for securing your firearms. All gun storage including the Moutec has "less" storage space than expected (read outer/inner dimensions) and the foam rests included with the Moutec do not optimize space. For ideas to "maximize" Moutec storage space read Moutec reviews and do some Amazon surfing. The Moutec is a solid 4+ star rating for hybrid safe-cabinet firearm storage out of the box and installed. This review will be updated for any material positive/negative changes in the Moutec's performance. ... show more
