  • Explorer On A Budget!
Color: BlueBerry
It’s really nice to see Firefly Guitars available on Amazon again and this revised model of the FF-LX does not disappoint. With a wonderful Blueberry finish on a mahogany body, updated Alnico 5 humbucker pickups, stainless steel frets with ball ends, bone nut, maple set neck and rosewood fretboard the FF-LX looks/plays and sounds the part of a much more expensive instrument. Comes boxed in a styrofoam coffin for maximum shipping protection. This guitar came completely playable right out of the box. Mine feels like it was strung with 9’s and after stretching and tuning, no setup was required on my end. Action was set low (but not too low) with good intonation and no string buzz. Frets were polished with no sprout, no scratching with bends and the factory strings were actually pretty good on this. Stock pickups sound very good…tone/volume controls smooth with good taper and no noise. The tuners are holding and doing their job, and the bone nut was cut/shaped nicely. The weight of the guitar was a surprising 8 lbs and balances nicely even with seated play. If you have been looking for a Explorer style guitar to add to your collection without breaking the bank, then the Firefly FF-LX is hard to beat! ... show more

  • Very impressed - great looking, great playing and inexpensive?
This is a really good instrument and an amazing bargain. I may have just gotten lucky. here are my observations after a few hours of playing. Your experience may vary. PROs: great looking, lighter than expected, solid feeling tuners, good nut cut, excellent fret work, relatively flat radius, string bends are easy, extremely comfortable to play, great set-up right out of the box, stays in tune pretty well, above average packing CONs: No case, body and even the neck are made from wood laminates - this raises the question of how long the adhesives will last, other short cuts: for example shorter than usual strap button screws ... show more

  • Awesome
It was a welcome and challenging intro to a brand new guitar. It needed a lot of setup initially because the strings were buzzing like crazy. Fret buzz, strong feedback/resonance with the note D. Nut needed filling as it was cut too deep, even for a .52 gauge string. Action height needed adjustment. Having done all that, but knowing that I'm starting with a new, factory guitar that just needs setting in and not some random state of affairs like buying a used guitar. Great learning experience and the guitar plays really well and comfortably now, it also looks stunning. It will probably be a great base for new challenge in trying new pickups in the future. The guitar feels like a really solid instrument that can last ages. ... show more

  • Unbelievable build quality for the money!
Just absolutely blown away at the sheer quality they deliver for the price, I have spent big big money on everything from PRS to Ibanez over the years and this thing arrives for a modest $200 and seriously is better than most $1400+ guitars out the box I have purchased. Is it perfect, no, but you can't beat it for that price......fret work is excellent even though I do prefer jumbo frets and 24 frets vs 22 that this had.....they rolled edges and nothing sharp anywhere on the fretboard, intonation is pretty darn good, I will be swapping to locking tuners but the stock ones are just fine (although pretty stiff), pickups actually really surprised me and are comparable to other stock pickups in ibanez and schecter guitars. Finish is impeccable! Definately in my top 3 of all time....no blemishes anywhere and the color just pops. I WILL be buying more!! ... show more

  • Surprise Surprise Surprise!!!
Color: Purple
I have quite a few high-end guitars Gibson Taylor American made FENDER and takamini and I know what a great guitar feels like sounds like and plays like but for the price of this Explorer copy it is truly amazing. the action is incredible and it sounds fantastic I am going to buy another one. I don't usually like the inexpensive guitars because I'm 65 years old and stuck in the famous brands but I am definitely a fan of these fireflies. You will not be disappointed but pleasantly surprised. ... show more

  • Almost Completely Impressed
Just FYI, the pickups read 14.97ohms neck, 7.53 ohms middle, 15.08 bridge. That's a bit too hot for me but on a guitar that most everyone will be shredding on I can understand why Firefly put them in. The pups don't sound bad to me, I just prefer a more vintage to middle set. The pros : The fit and finish is very nice and I had to hunt very closely to find the slightest blemish. It feels good in the hand, nice shape neck, good balance. The finish is superb, maybe A or AA flame maple. As has been mentioned other places, the tuners are close together but nothing I can't work with. They do seem to hold tuning well. The cons : only two, really. There is fret buzz on the high E string at the 10th fret, so the 11th fret treble side is slightly high. The action from the factory is low so I can probably raise it just a tad and help it out without using tools. Also, there seems to be a little ground buzz if I take my hands completely off any metal part. I use Morigami cables so it isn't that. The buzz isn't too bad but it's there. I will investigate it soon. All-in-all I really like the guitar and think it will last a long time down the road. ... show more

  • Firefly...Great guitar well worth the money!
Beautifully set up with proper intonation and action right out of the box and just as advertised. No issues with the components or the body of the guitar. Plays great. Love the sound the pickups produce. My first Firefly but I would buy from them again!
