Description

Water is indeed everywhere especially bottled water. High-end restaurants now have water lists in addition to wine lists, water bars are opening up around the globe, and gourmet markets are selling dozens of different varieties of domestic and imported bottled waters. Consumers are beginning to recognize that bottled water, like wine, has a unique identity that is defined by its origin. Fine Waters introduces readers to the epicurean delights of water, sharing the ins and outs of the characteristics that provide various waters with their unique flavors, as well as recommended food pairings, stemware suggestions, and optimum serving temperatures for enjoying both still and sparkling waters. The book also provides tasting notes for more than 100 of the world's best bottled waters. Produced in full color, with photographs throughout, Fine Waters is the first guide to this up-and-coming food trend. Read more

  • This is an amazing Journey into water
What an amazing book, Michael takes you through a journey of water and while that may sound kind of crazy he shows you how the mini textures and flavors of water not to mention all the mini sources of water are as impactful if not more impactful than even the world of wine. Since reading the book I have also taken his intro into fine Waters 101 with Martin Riese . If you are looking to broaden your knowledge of water and to truly understand what it is you are drinking and where it comes from this is an awesome book,Supposedly there is a second addition to this book that is out now that expands on the knowledge of individual waters from around the world, I hope to find it and to read it as well. ... show more

  • it was the best water I had ever tasted
I was recently in China and I made an effort to drink bottled water because of unknown tap water sources. I was at a restaurant and ordered “mineral water” and they brought me a bottle of “Vittel" water. I had been drinking lots of bottled water but when I tasted this. . . it was the best water I had ever tasted. . . ever. I started researching it to find out more and my research lead me to “Fine Waters.” I loved this book. The first 70 pages was history, background, science and etiquette about bottled water. It was educational and whimsical at the same time. As a person who doesn’t drink wine but loves the idea of paring food and drink, I was fascinated with this book. The remainder of this book is a list of 100 bottled waters with full color pictures and descriptions. The author states that with over 3000 brands it was hard to narrow down to a small selection. After reading the book I went to my local organic market and picked up a few bottles to sample. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. ... show more

  • Essentially the same as the website
I think all the other reviewers have sufficiently described the contents of this fascinating book, so I will just compare it to the contents on the finewaters.com website. All the information is essentially the same. The main text is the same as the text on the site (history, water sources, etiquette, health). If you look at the Table of Contents, you can see what has been included. The only information not really included is all the stuff on spas--in which case snippets of it has been interspersed in the history section in side panels. About 2/3 of the book consists of a directory of his personal pick of 100 bottled waters which is set up just like the website. The author explains that this should not be thought of as a top 100 list, or anything like that. Just a list to show the wide variety of bottle waters and his personal favorites. The only thing it doesn't include is the website and contact information for each water. If you are interested in the topic and just want to read more about it, I recommend just saving your money and visiting the website. It has all the same information if not less. Especially the directory, which was purposely limited to 100. Obviously the website has the benefit of limitless entries and regular updates. If you find the website's formatting a little infuriating (which it is), then you could buy the book and have it wonderfully organized and neatly bound. It is of good quality and the pages are full colored, thick, and glossy like a photography book. To summarize, buy the book if you: - Prefer books/want a physical copy - Are interested in which 100 he chose to mention - Want a signed copy (in which case you need to order it directly from his website- no extra charge) Otherwise, you're better off reading the website. ... show more

  • A "Sparkling" Book
Such vitriol from other reviewers! I think this a fun book if you're into bottled waters like me. The best bottled water I ever tasted was Badoit in Paris. One of the finest mineral waters plus rare outside of France. Lots of fun facts, history, minerality, and origin. Makes a nice addition to any cooking or bar book. ... show more
