The media could not be loaded. ** 8/24/2021 Update: Although I've only been camping 8 times thus far during a trip to Idaho, those outings have found me setting up my tent on a variety of soil from pretty typical "firm soil" to hard, rocky ground that challenged my tent stakes, to the soft and porous volcanic soil (not sure what else to call it) of the Craters of the Moon National Park. So, that leads to my only complaint regarding this tent...the relatively short, aluminum, Y-beam stakes that came with it. I've already broken the heads off 2 or three of those, the aluminum seeming not to be of the highest quality. Fortunately, before leaving on my trip, I did pick up some longer 9" Coghlan's Y-beam stakes and 7" Coghlan's steel hook-style stakes at Walmart. The latter helped in staking down my tent & footprint on the harder, rocky soil while I still managed to break the head off one of the longer Y-beam stakes as I tried driving it into the soil. This lead me to questioning if I could find a better stake and at an outdoor equipment store in Ketchum, I found some MSR 7" Aluminum Hook Stakes that have performed quite admirably and can also be found here on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/MSR-Hook-Stakes-Kit-6-Pack/dp/B019F2QS68. As much as I've used these stakes, I may well buy an extra set and perhaps the highly rated MSR Groundhog stakes also. As for steel stakes which I've not used but a couple of times, the cheap ones from Walmart have served me well enough but I do feel a steel peg type that is even more robust would be a smarter choice if one anticipates very hard, rocky ground to set up on. Apart from the stakes, this FE Active tent finds me highly satisfied with it and with no issues yet, but I will note also that I've yet to encounter any rainstorms during my trip. So, my impression is driven by usability and design, roominess, ease of setup, and that the zippers and materials used seem to be of high quality. It is an excellent tent value. **** I'm not a active backpacking camper nor have I done any camping in many years, but an upcoming trip finds me anticipating some camping along the way in the interest of reducing my trip costs as well as supporting some photography/astrophotography adventures. Although just myself, I favored buying a tent that could easily accommodate two people with an ample amount of gear inside the tent or, if the size of the vestibules was enough, at least provide good cover for gear outside the tent. I particularly liked this FE Active Grindvik tent did not have a common 7x7-ft. floor but more nearly an 8x7-ft. floor that allowed a bit more sense of separation from the sides of the tent when sleeping. The 52-inch height is also nice, given many are 48 inches or less. Setup and teardown is easy, but not fast...at least not yet for me. Quick enough though with no complaints on that. But, to facilitate setting up the canopy I do have a tip to offer: Tie-down straps that secure around the support rods are provided that must in fact be tied down. I greatly favor clips or Velcro for that purpose, so I chose to cut four 3-inch strips of Velcro One Wrap and then tie the canopy straps to those. Then, when it comes time to attach the canopy to the support rods, it is very easy to secure by just wrapping the strips of One Wrap around each rod, no tying required. No footprint is provided with this tent, nor did I see a suitable one being offered by FE Active. So, for that purpose I bought a Redcamp 95x83" footprint for $20, and it fits this tent perfectly. Perhaps the only negative I have about the tent, but for which I didn't discount my rating by any stars, is the absence of guylines for the center loops at the sides of the canopy, presumably the manufacturer just expecting you to stake those down directly. But, I favor guylines to tautly pull the canopy away from the tent for better airflow. I made my own from paracord and some very useful aluminum cord tensioners (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VGBHYJL) that I also added to the existing guylines for the fastest setup and adjustment possible. I also made 4 more such guylines for tying out the vestibules to a taut, open position although I'm not sure how useful I'll find that to be. ... show more

Bought this for backpacking in the winter, tested it in the back yard when we had a snowstorm. Pros: This is easy to attach to the bottom of your pack, and is not heavy. We did not find ourselves cold at all during the night. It did withstand the 3-4" of snow just fine. Super easy to set up! We actually set this up WHILE it was snowing and it only took a couple of minutes. Cons: SUPER CLOSE QUARTERS! The 2 person is big enough for 2 sleeping pads that are 72x25. But that's it. You can only sit up in the center of the tent-sides are too sloped to do so, and you could be rubbing the hood of your mummy bag against the sidewall during the night. There is not REALLY room for a 65L backpack in the vestibule without it touching the tent or going outside the vestibule. You can make it work, but it is a hassle to climb over. Condensation WILL build up! Ours actually froze on the inside of the fly. If you aren't expecting rain or snow, I'd stake the vestibule open just a tad to allow for more airflow. The two triangles on the side aren't enough to keep it vented. If yours freezes, remember to shake it off before it melts so you don't have to clean up water. You're going to want different stakes, or to use some guy line to attach the stakes it comes with TO the loops. The stakes don't have a way to hook into the loops, so if you don't angle them, you can lift the loop off. We untied the stake loops and put the tent loops onto them and retied them. No footprint. The 83*95 footprint people are recommending purchasing with this is TOO BIG for the two person. All in all, a good tent, just know what you're in for and be prepared! Happy Camping! ... show more

The media could not be loaded. 1-30-22 Worst tent I've ever used. I bought it because my backpacking trekking pole tent Lanshan wasn't going to work on platforms. Pain to assemble, I'm 5'4 and too short for it, can't fit you and gear or dog, not water resistant because of the tiny rainfly and doors flapping in windy rain , major condensation with doors closed etc. It worked for my needs because I seam sealed it and kept the doors open most of the time backpacking. The creators claim they are backpackers and the weight under 3 lbs were what drew me in. There were no reviews at the time I bought it. The video is of a storm we got while in my yard set up. Pools of water, condensation. The rainfly needs to be much bigger and the door needs to be secured with velcro. 7-30-21 As you can see in the video. This is not the tent. The weight got me to buy, and the pools of water after a highwind thunderstorm got me to want to return. I did seal coat the seems with Flex seal after that happened. My trip does have light rain in the forecast and I will be camped at a lake hours in the middle of the forest so it's thick tree coverage. It will work for that. But, it will not work with heavy rain. The rainshield above is too short and the front screen needs the door to be longer than the entrance. Like most of us backpackers. I have expensive stuff in my tent that can't get wet like my down bag etc. I hate saying it but unless you're camping under very thick trees, a shelter or under a tarp. This is not for backpacking. if it rains and you have none of that. You will get pools of water at the head and feet. Worst places to get it. The flap in front of the zipper is flapping which is another water source I'm sure. I added some stick on velcro to keep it closed. I'm pretty sure the door is the culprit and the rain was going through the zipper. You can see the door in the video is soaken wet up against the screen. After my modifications and my trip. I'll let you know. But all in all currently this will be returned. My walmart tent though 5 lbs has been through 3 tropical storms and zero water inside with no coverage. 7-27-21 I'm going on a backpacking trip and I normally take my Meir (Same as Lanshan) trekking pole ultra light tent with me. This hike is going to have some hard surface tent spaces. The meir requires guidelines, ground stakes etc. So I need a self standing tent. I chose this one. So far I have just set it up in my yard. My trip is Aug 3rd so I am going to try it out tonight in the thunderstorm coming and all night rain. When my trip is done I'll revise my original review if needed. Here is my initial out of the bag review. Get it. It took 2 minutes to set up. It's pretty light. The 2.9 lb claim I'd say is accurate. Feels like it weights a little less than a liter bottle of water. I compared it to my Meir tent in size and weight. It is the same. Except the inside. I added a picture of my legs. I am 5'4. I put my butt all the way to the back and took a shot. You have about a foot from the front to my feet. It will fit me perfectly in length. It will not however work for anyone taller than 5'6 if you sleep long. Your head and feet will be up against the tent. If you sleep in the fetal position then you're golden no matter how tall. Plenty of room for 1 person and stuff and dog if you'd like or two people with air mattresses but no gear inside unless it's under your head, feet or between. It does not have a vestibule which I'm happy with if I can have my stuff inside anyways. That also means less air flow and more condensation. I haven't used it yet so the opening on top might be enough air flow. The 2 doors have a large screen and the bottom is open for air flow so that's why I say it might be enough or just keep the outside door open for plenty of air. The door has velcro at the bottom under the zippers to keep the outside door in place in wind. It has tie ups to tie up the doors. The zipper is tempermental my first time zipping it up inside. I had to hold it closed from the outside and zip it like a woman trying on a dress one size too small. That might be because I did make sure everything was tight so it might need some give. The zipper if you take care of it and go slow should last. But it isn't my favorite. There is one pocket inside about the size of an iPad mini or Kindle. There is also a hook at the top for a light or fan. The floor seems to be your typical black criss cross plasticy bottom. I see no way water will get in unless a hole happens. Lifts about 3 inches off the ground on all four sides. It does not come with a footprint. I'm not sure if it needs one with this bottom but I'll keep ya posted. All in all I'd say this is perfect for backpackers. Just watch the zipper. I'll update after my trip. ... show more

I bought this 3-4 person tent for myself for camping with the Scouts in northern MN. I needed something with vertical enough sides so that I could fit my 16" tall Ozark Trail North Fork Cot that I've had for years. I had about 2" between my cot and the walls. Perfect. I did buy the 95x83 Redcamp tarp for a ground cloth, to help protect the floor of the tent. Just right. I also got a few extra bright orange, aluminum Walmart stakes. The tent was a breeze to setup, quicker than the Scouts Marmot tents. I actually set it up minutes before a storm rolled in. All in all during its inaugural week it survived 2 storms and a torrential downpour. In fact, during the downpour the rain fly was left open for a few minutes, but the tight mesh of the screen only let a little water in. I was able to wipe it up with a single paper towel. I really appreciated the rain fly vents during the night and evening as it was quite warm and humid. I did have one mishap with the tent. Specifically the rain fly tie down anchor point. I am not sure if I had it anchored too tight, someone tripped in the dark (the anchors and anchor ropes are black), or what happened, but during camp pack up I noticed the anchor point had ripped off. That evening I emailed FE Active hoping they had an idea how to go about how to fix it myself and included pictures. Danica got back to me in the evening, on the weekend (!) to help me out. They didn't have any replacement rain flys available, so she sent me a whole replacement tent! I am going to look at replacing the anchor ropes with some reflective para cord just in case. I am very happy with this tent and FE Active's customer service. I would recommend this tent for anyone, especially parents camping with their Scout groups. ... show more

I used this tent as my shelter while traveling for a few months strait breaking camp most every morning and setting up every night I am happy to say the tent itself held up very well and I started in November and was useng it during several snow storms (with a smaller child backyard tent inside it) and my dogs and I were able to stay nice and warm and the way the exterior rain fly is set up makes it not only very easy to use with one person and two dogs but also if it was needed makes it easy to place an extra insulating layer that you can then sinch down with the adjustable tensioning clips of the rain fly.... just don't block the vents when the snow piles up around the base of the fly it stops all ventilation unless the vents are used so be careful but you should not need to worry about it if you are not getting snow piled on you and I know most won't be in that situation. the only complaint I have is that the stakes while looking and feeling like good quality are easily bent at the top end and being aluminum alloy they just break off if bent at all and the stakes are necessary to use the tent if you don't stake it, it will not be very good at all that said everything else was perfect and I'm very happy with it. ... show more

If you are in dry conditions this tent is fantastic!! However on my first trip using this tent it started raining. The water soaked through the rain fly and the bottom of the tent. Pretty quickly. Water was dripping from the ceiling and soaking through the floor. All my stuff got wet and I had to cut my trip short. Incredibly frustrating when this is advertised as 3 season. This is not a 3 season tent. Still a great bang for your buck on dry trips. ... show more

This is a very good tent and the price is pretty amazing. It's pretty roomy, I have slept two 6'1 men along with a 9 year old and 4 year old and we all fit fine. Two grown men or smaller than that would have plenty of space for bags and such. I have used this in heavy snow and VERY heavy rain and never gotten a drop of water inside it so far. The outer cover actually insulates fairly well, so I wouldn't recommend having the cover on for warm weather camping unless you keep the vents and both sides open for a breeze. Tent camping in warm weather is tough either way, but you can go with just the bug layer in warm climates. In cold weather, with a good sleeping pad and bag, you will stay warm in it. The pack down size is pretty small and light for how large the tent is. You could technically backpack with it for a short trip, but if you were doing something longer, a smaller tent would be more ideal for packing into a backpack. This tent is not expensive but is not cheap. I only used in a windy day in a mountain and I think it can be improved. Add printed instructions and more line Add tensioners , about 10 will be enough. Stacks are too short and doesn't have multiple options for tide rope or lines

Motorcycle Trip. I was camping on the Lake Superior Northern Coast. BIG Thunder Storm BLEW off the lake. I peaked out; it was raining so hard I couldn't see beyond 20 feet. Inside the tent was dry and comfortable. Easy to Setup and Pack.

*edit* FE Active reached out and replaced the tent. I’m updating my review simply based on great customer service. Have not had a chance to use the replacement, but will update if any issues. Setup was easy, however the finish on the aluminum support rods was low quality and stained our hands blue/green. Held up to wind and rain great, but after only a day of use the zipper failed on the rainfly. Pretty disappointed with these issues especially at the price point. ... show more
