  • Stop debating and buy this one.
Style: USB 3.0 USB-A Black
I spent hours deliberating over all the choices Amazon had to offer. I'm not cheap, but I'm disabled and on a very limited budget, so I was leaning towards the low end of products to stay in my budget. I finally decided to try this product due to the 5 star reviews it got. Right out of the box, feels sturdy and well made. Virtually no setup, plug in the USB cable, and start doing whatever it is you want to do. The reason I needed a burner is most of my old copied music CD's were deteriorating, and I wanted to make new copies to keep in my truck. I was astonished at the speed this drive copied and burned my new CD's. I reproduced 9 albums in a little over 45 minutes. I am more than satisfied with those results. Also during the copy/burn process, I did not hesitate to abuse the drive a bit. Nothing violent, just average bumping, tapping, lifting and turning it, and not a glitch whatsoever, that is until I turned it upside down...It didn't like that...but picked up right where it left off, and had absolutely no effect on the quality of the burns. I also checked all of them and listened to 3 to their full length, and they all sound perfect. There are a couple of "Cons", but they are more than justified for the price and are easily accepted, or worked around. The first one is the "attached" USB cable, I would prefer it to be detachable, so it could be replaced if something happened to the original, but when I considered the fact that it is conveniently stored right on the unit for easy storage, transport, and protection, I decided to cross the "damage cable thing" bridge when I get to it, and move on. The second "Con" is that they don't include any software to actually use it other than Windows Media Player for playing music. So, I did my usual research and found "Express Burn" by NCH Software. It did a great job and very easy to use at an also unbeatable price...FREE! There may be others out there, and of course you could pay to get some premium features, but this program will copy files, create back-ups and copies of your music collection, as well as create bootable CD's to repair your Windows build if need be, without making an additional investment. To close this "novel" (which I almost never write reviews) I will just say I highly recommend this drive, and paired up with the free software you can't go wrong! ... show more

  • It works perfectly if you connect it correctly
Style: USB 3.0 USB-A Black
Have you had lots of disconnects? Disc Reading issues? Accurip fails? Disc detection problems? Let me help you here. I've owned this thing for over 3 years. If you're using it in anything other than USB 3.0 input, IT WILL NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY. If you plugged it into USB 2.0 thinking "It's a stupid disc reader/burner, it doesn't need 3.0 to work!" Well, you're wrong, it absolutely does. Now, despite what I just said, it may work fine in USB C with an adapter, or perhaps USB 1.0, which I don't use, but USB 2.0 will give you nothing but problems. You bought a USB 3.0 drive so use it in the right input folks. Good Luck. ... show more

  • Works well, convenient to connect, great price, but the continuous flashing light bugs me
Style: USB 3.0 USB-A Black
Overall, very pleased with this unit. I've used it to connect to several PC's now (laptops, and super-small form machines with no DVD drive), and it has worked easily with all of them. Just plug and play. Nice that it does not require a power supply of its own. Haven't had any problem with any of the DVD's I've tried so far, works about as well as the built-in drive on my larger computers. The extremely small form factor is great for portability. Being as small as it is, it seems kind of delicate, so you have to be a little careful when loading and unloading a disc. Couple of minor issues: Again, because it's so small, there's seems to be no sound baffling at all, so there is a distinct whirring/scratching sound while a disc is in use, although this is usually only heard when there is no sound from the movie (or whatever you're listening to). And, when playing a disc, there is a CONSTANT flashing yellow LED on the front of the drive. Turning it in another direction is the simple solution. But how about a solid green light, instead of a flashing yellow? It looks like it's indicating a problem, when there isn't one. ... show more

  • It is what it is!
Style: USB 3.0 USB-A Black
So many newer laptops have dropped the CD/DVD drives. I am so glad I got this. It is easy to plug in and works quite well. I had a few programs on a CD-Roms which I was able to install without a problem on my laptop since the programs were not available in any of the play stores. It also allows me to pop a DVD into the drive from my collection and watch it when I am not online, or I can't find the movie online. ... show more

  • Worked great—-for two days! Then failed
Description exaggerated. PC burning software had to be purchased. No free burning software was found—-even those recommended in manual. Mac burning SW included in Mac. Initially, played DVDs fine on both ThinkPad and Mac Air. After purchasing SW (“any DVD”) for ThinkPad, worked fine for a few days. Worked with Mac fine until failed. However, even the included discs never did work. Beautiful looking and handy carrying case. Speed as advertised while it worked. I returned for replacement. Hope replacement works as this is reasonably priced and very convenient size. I’ll follow up when replacement arrives. ... show more

  • I recently purchased the this DVD Drive to expand my PCs capabilities and was pleasantly surprised.
Style: USB 3.0 USB-A Black
**Pros and Cons**: Pros: * Fast writing and reading speeds * Easy setup without requiring any additional software * Compatible with multiple operating systems Cons: * the USB cable is short, leaving much to be desired. **User Experience**: In terms of usability, the Gotega External DVD Drive has been seamless. The eject button is convenient and doesn't get stuck. The USB cable is fairly short but works none the less. Overall, this external DVD drive meets my expectations, offering a good balance between performance and ease of use. If you're looking for a reliable solution for burning CDs or DVDs on your computer/laptop, the Gotega External DVD Drive is worth considering. ... show more
