    • Great steel hose, worth replacing the other ones.
I moved into my home 3 years ago and purchased Four regulars and two expanding hoses. Since I live in PNW, I get decent cold and long dry heat spells. In the last three years, both the expanding hoses failed, and two of the four regular hoses started leaking near the valve. I was looking for a bit more sturdier hoses that can withstand the environment and can stay outside during summer. This is my third steel hose and I purchased another one from a different vendor that was a bit more expensive but was the same hose as this. This, further also came in a branded box whereas the other one was in a generic box. The hose has good, brass connectors and just like steel hoses, doesn't kink easily, one huge plus over regular hoses for me. The hoses inside are fabric unlike the polymer hoses so I do expect these to fail like the expanding hoses but I am hoping the steel sheet would help them last a bit longer. These do expand a little under pressure but that expansion is about 10% of the length. The other good thing is that this hose is quite lightweight and does not feel at all like a metal-covered hose. I don't need to drive a car over it so I can live with a thinner jacket. Also, even regular hoses can hold the weight of the car as the water is pressurized to 65 PSI so those photos of cars driving over hoses are nothing but a gimmick. The actual hose is 1/2" so if you are habitual of 5/8 hoses, the water flow would be a bit lower and with a bit more pressure. Since I have to put this to a sprinkler and with a timer in between, the thickness is a moot point as there are other tighter places in the flow. ... show more

I needed a 25-ft hose to run water to a pear tree in an isolated section of our backyard. The hose won't be moved now that it's in place. Almost any hose would have worked for my purpose, but I ordered this metal hose out of curiosity, even though I was a little skeptical. It works fine for my purposes, but how well it holds up over time remains to be seen. Considering its lightweight, I'm assuming the strength of the hose comes from its metal casing rather than the layers of fiber-reinforced rubber of most garden hoses. The 3/4-inch connector fittings on both ends of the hose are unusual. Each fitting has what appears to be a 5/16-inch hole (difficult to measure — see photo) that the water must pass through, which is considerably smaller than the diameter of the hose. These small holes might reduce the flow and water pressure, but someone with more expertise than me in fluid dynamics might have a more informed opinion on this. One positive attribute of the hose is that it does not kink, which is always a problem with inexpensive garden hoses. So far, the hose works fine for what I needed it to do, but not knowing how it might hold up over the long term, I probably wouldn't recommend it as a replacement for a high-quality, standard 5/8-inch garden hose. I'll be optimistic and give it four stars. ----- EDIT The hose I and others reviewed was a flexible, stainless steel-clad metal hose. Somehow, my review (and seemingly others) for that hose was transferred to this lightweight, expandable rubber hose. This hose is light weight, flexible and I hope that it will last a long time. I am impressed with quality of the materials. I will update the review after some more use.
