I knew this was probably going to be cheap as the price but never tought it was full on a kid sized toy or a prop. Review are confusing because it has high stars, but is due to parents who purchased it as a toy. The ones who convinced me to get it was one whelp said they were a medical student. I know no good professor would tale.this seriously so I am worried if any nurse student is using these. I wanted it to monitor my dogs heart as he has a heart murmur and gets syncope episodes. I need to see if his heart rate is dropping or increasing during that episode. Also to see if the meds are doing their job. However this apparatus has tons of interference and if you use it like you should, no one has a heart beat. But you can hear all other sounds so its good if you want to hear gossip. If you use it backwards and put the metal part on the heart, then you can faintly hear something. On my dog with the murmur it is better as his heart beat is very loud, however there is too much interference to keep me concentrated and I need to count his heart beats per minute. My nephews, 3 and 6 year olds are having a blast pretending they can hear hearts. Save your money. This is not even good to measure Blood pressure. If you need it for a patient or a si lck doggie, then get a better one. ... show more

I did not realize this is a toy. Now I understand why it's so crappy. Then come to find out it is non returnable. That's my mistake but it's so hard on Amazon to see the fine "non returnable" print. I have used many cheap stethascopes before that actually worked well. On EMS scenes they get left behind or someone picks them up so it's nice to have inexpensive ones. But seriously, this is a toy! After reading tips (put your finger over the hole or twist the center piece to closed position) it is working as expected. Just wish these simple instructions were included. At the outset I'll say I wasn't expecting the best quality stethoscope when I purchased this, given the $6.99 price I paid for it. That being said, when I got the item it felt much lighter than I expected. The chrome pieces that go to the ears actually feel like plastic (still can't tell for sure if it actually is or isn't), but they do feel very cheap and light. The rubber tubing is very thin and buckles and crimps when you try to push it onto the ear pieces and head. The head though is metal and the quality of it isn't terrible. Concerning the sound, to me it is VERY faint, although I can hear heartbeats sometimes. The sound is greatly affected by the amount of ambient noise and air movement around you. Overall in my opinion this isn't a very good stethoscope, and if I could do it over I won't buy it again and instead try to find a better quality (albeit almost certainly meaning a more expensive) one. As an aside - for those who are interested in it just for a prop, it does look fairly realistic from a distance. ... show more
