  • Amazing Invention! Amazing Quality! Amazing Price!
Color: Purple
Such a well developed machine. So quick to spool messy yarn and very satisfying to watch, re-shelf, and use center-pull for fabric crafters out there!! Thanks Santa!!

  • The econe falls off as the cone gets larger
I was excited tō get it. P immediately opened it up and wound a large skein of yarn but the cone kept falling off until I just wrapped it myself. I will try to spin a smaller skein, if that doesn't do the job then I will be returning it.

  • Really does work
Color: Purple
Quality is high. Easy to use. Assembly minimal. Stability is good on the table. No shake. Do not take off the silicone band. Slowly turn up the speed to catch the yarn. Then let er rip. It does handle large amounts of yarn. Yes it slows as the ball gets bigger. It’s fine! It’s a tension thing. The machine will stop sometimes as designed because of snags or if you use it over 4 minutes at a time. Just turn the dial off and on. I watched online videos full of misinformation. Just work with it and you will get used to it. ... show more

  • It's great until it's not
Color: Purple
I have a large yarn collection and was making my arm fall off cranking cakes by hand for better storage. I figured electric winder would solve my issues, which this, well, partly has. I second other reviewer who mentioned that the winder works quite well with trippy yarns (think of cotton or wool) but quickly turns into a nightmare with acrylic. When the ball gets too large and you make the mistake of not keeping an eye on it to stop it the moment the yarn slips, you'll end up with a mess on the bobbin. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do the acrylics, but I've had slim luck so far. The machine itself is pretty quiet. Speedy-ish but not as quick as hand cranking if you're a speed demon like me. I understand that the machine stops itself automatically after about 4 minutes (annoying but whatever) and also stops if tension gets even a bit too high. I like my cakes pretty firm, so this is a huge downside for me. Also, frogging a project with this or using the winder on a fresh skein etc without having to pull the yarn loose by hand is kind of a no go. It kinda gets the job done, just at the cost of your time, effort and mental health. Update: I first gave it 3 stars. Bumped it down after it's taken me a hour and over six (!) Times stopping the machine to unravel the mess it made. Please pay for my therapy lol ... show more

  • The best thing since sliced bread!
Color: Purple
I am new to crocheting, and using the manual yarn winder was just a bit too much. This electric yarn winder is the best tool I have brought since starting my journey. This is really worth the money.

  • Amazing Tool, With a Learning Curve
I ordered this to organize my unruly yarn collection and it was the answer to so many prayers. It was very easy to assemble and not too difficult to figure out. The instructions were....lacking for sure. I was able to figure it out for the most part but I still have questions. I also had to make a lot of mistakes and deal with a lot of tangled yarn to figure out what worked and what didn't. I am still confused as to the purpose of the rubber ring. I know it helps to hold the cake in place, BUT it also makes it incredibly difficult to remove the cakes (especially the bigger ones) when they are finished. Overall, I'm grateful for this tool because it has helped organize my collection immensely. I just wish it had been easier to learn to use. ... show more

  • Lots of Problems, but it Does Work
I was really excited about this one... I used to have a manual hand crank yarn ball winder, and center-pull yarn balls are so much easier to work with. I lost my winder many years ago and have been using yarn directly from skeins. I am TERRIBLE at finding the center yarn from a skein and I end up using it from the outside, which becomes a giant pain to maintain as you have to keep unwinding yarn over and over in the middle of your project. So I ripped this box open, grabbed literal arms full of yarn, and set this thing up to wind. The first ball wound up really nicely with no issues... Then the problems started. On "grippy" yarns like wool where the fibers tend to want to stick to each other, this thing works great. On more "slippery" acrylic yarns, not so much. I kept finding the yarn baller would end up wrapping several loops around the base of the ball halfway through winding. I found that I had to unwind the skeins of yarn ahead of the winder because tension would get out of control really fast if I put the skein in a box and tried to make it unwind naturally. Twice I had yarn balls go flying off the bobbin across the room, then the remaining yarn would get tangled with the center yarn and the yarn supply I was trying to feed in. Sometimes it would get wrapped around the base no matter how quickly I stopped it. You will get there eventually, and it will be worth it, but if you don't throw a skein aside into your "Ugh, I'll untangle this later" pile, it would be a miracle. Also, the instructions mention NOTHING about the rubber band on the bobbin. I found that it helped stop the balls from flying off, but then they were really difficult to remove once wound, and sometimes I'd end up pulling the center out while trying to get the yarn ball off. ... show more
