After breaking two Harbor Freight rubber mallets during vinyl flooring and retaining wall projects (rubber head split in half both times) I decided to bite the bullet and buy a nice rubber mallet. I'm not disappointed at all, just wish it wasn't so expensive...its just a piece of rubber and stick of wood. I used a dollar store rubber mallet to pound chicken to tenderize. When my cheap mallet broke I wanted to replace with a made in USA rubber mallet. This Estwing rubber mallet is the most wonderful mallet. The length of the handle is perfect. The circumference of the rubber mallet has a nice large hitting area. The quality is superb. I pound skinless chicken breasts to a uniform thickness before grilling so as to have the breasts cook evenly and not have thinner parts dry out. This is a kitchen only mallet for me. ... show more

I just replaced an Estwing rubber mallet I've used and abused for years. These things take a beating. The hickory handle is comfortable whether your hands are large or small. Other brands I've used don't measure up. You want Estwing.

Very well-balanced and well-made, as I expect from Estwing. I have small hands and the handle is comfortable and allows a secure grip while in use. The only con, on a comic note, is that my husband keeps borrowing this mallet and it’s not in my tool box when I need it! He will receive one of these as a gift to resolve that issue. There's only so much one can say about a simple mallet. It got the job done for putting some cabinet drawers together and will soon aid in tiling as well. It's a solid mallet, doesn't leave marks on the surface, and simply works. Made in USA.
