    • Very good, but also very expensive and not as adjustable as I'd hoped

To begin with, this is obviously a very well built product with quality parts, as it would have to be to support a monitor like the G9 (as I'm using). Further, there's very little wiggle and it keeps its position very well. So kudos, it does the main job well. But... the price is exorbitant. A basic monitor arm costs literally one tenth the price, there's absolutely no way this requires ten times the materials or engineering, you are definitely paying for both the brand name and the fact that no one else (that I know of) makes a stand with this weight capacity. Supply and demand, I guess, but the stand that comes with the G9 is so excellent I really question if I made the right choice. Assembly is pretty straightforward, though if you have the G9 you will definitely want a second pair of hands actually lift it onto the mount. Adjustment in all directions works well enough but it really wants to move in some ways more than others. For example, it rotates (the one adjustment I never want to make) far too easily so I'm always leveling back out after moving it. And of the three main pivots, the middle one moves much more easily than the other two so actually moving it backwards and forwards it is a matter of swinging it side to side until you can get each pivot to move the way you want. It takes a good 30-60 seconds of wiggling just to push it back. Maybe this is unavoidable due to the monitor weight, but don't think this is something you can just adjust on a whim. Also, the depth adjustment is surprisingly short. I measured a measly 18cm of range - they advertise more, but that requires pushing it off to one side which isn't going to be a good option for most people. This is partly because the main pivot where it meets the desk is limited to 180 degrees from left to right, not ~360 as you might expect. It's puzzling because you can rotate it the full 360 by removing the set screw and it seems to operate just fine, but obviously that's risky to do without knowing why they limited it in the first place. If someone from Ergotron reads this, I'd love to know why it's limited and how dangerous it is to use without the screw. Finally, the cable management is, as always from Ergotron, hugely disappointing. I can't believe they still don't make this a priority. There's ways they route cables: first, two little velcro strips that are ugly, hard to close neatly, and tend to come out and are a huge headache to get back in. Worse, they don't even hide the cables! It's the cheapest, laziest solution imaginable. The other is a cavity on the rear arm that's covered by a plastic sheath. This at least looks nice once they're tucked in, though doing so is a pain and getting the plastic part on an off is rather tricky. I don't exaggerate when I say I've bought sub-$50 monitor arms with more elegant and thoughtful cable management solutions. Figure it out, Ergotron! Happy with this product. Appreciate getting the monitor off the stand sitting on the desk. It frees up space and is easier to manipulate when shifting from sit to stand. Do make sure you still have the wall mount for your monitor as that is what makes the arm compatible with the monitor. Had considered a different, cheaper brand's monitor arm, but reviews mentioned that it eventually loses its lift capacity and began to droop. Given the investment in the larger monitor it made more sense to pay more on the front end for a secure arm. You'll need to decide for yourself if that's important to you. ... show more

    • Great Monitor Arm, but you'll need to give up an arm

First of all - I get it, it's a niche product for a niche market... After all, not everyone will want to spend $1300+ for a Monitor in the first place. But $400 for a Monitor Arm? That's almost 10x the price for some decent arms. They know it's expensive, and they know we're willing to pay for it. Doesn't mean we're any less upset about the exorbitant cost of the product. which is, quite frankly, ridiculous. Build Quality: SOLID as titanium Ease of Installation: Taking candy from a baby (sad) Ergonomics / Design: Porsche.     • An expensive monitor arm that left my expecting more

All right, I'm not one to leave reviews on products but I felt like I should on this arm. I'm a work-from-home software engineer and have been In the market for an ultrawide monitor and a well-made monitor arm. I went ahead and picked up the LG 49WQ95C-W 49 Inch 32:9 Curved UltraWide monitor and this monitor arm as a combo for my new setup. I've seen some pretty good things about Ergotron arms on YouTube and throughout my research. In the past, I would buy cheaply made monitor arms that would make my monitor wiggle while typing on my desk, and move quite a bit when I would lift my standing desk. It would drive my OCD, CRAZY. This time around, I decided to shell out the money for the Ergotron since I considered it (and many others) to be the end-all-be-all monitor arm. Taking it out of the box, it felt heavy and high quality and I felt like I made the right purchase just by looking at it and seeing the quality of the arm. The installation process was very straightforward, and I didn't even need a second person to put my monitor on the mounting bracket of the arm. I wake up the next day for work, make my coffee, and sit at my desk. I notice something, infuriating. my monitor has been slowly falling down onto my desk while being mounted onto the arm. I raise it back up, and it falls down again. I finally get it in the right position to where it'll stay at the level that I want without slowly dropping down. Really really annoying knowing how much I paid for this arm, but okay, whatever I guess. I start typing and I start to notice my monitor shaking while typing, and when I went to raise my standing desk, the monitor was shaking due to the instability of the arm. I've come to the conclusion that after using this monitor for about 3 months, this monitor arm isn't worth the money. I'll even give Ergotron the benefit of the doubt, maybe my ultrawide monitor is too heavy for the arm? But I mean come on? This monitor arm is around $450 dollars. You would expect it to be rock solid with any type of monitor. I won't return this arm, since I already have it set up and I really just can't be bothered to find another cheaper arm that does the same thing as the Ergotron, but I for sure do not recommend buying this arm, especially with anyone that's super OCD about their monitor's position on their desks like myself At the price you pay for this arm, you expect this thing to be rock solid and not move at all once you adjust where you want your monitor, and it doesn't do that. ... show more
