The instruction manual does not have correct information about how to open the safe once a security code has been established. It is necessary to input the security code "FOLLOWED BY THE * KEY" in order to open the safe. There is no mention of this requirement in the instruction manual. It was easy to install but the welding job on the safe itself wasn't all that great, it's somewhat misaligned, It looks like someone else had it and returned it but I don't care, I needed the safe and it's fine no one can see it so, I happy with my purchase, good price.

    • Didn’t fit 16” spaced studs
Color: 45ER
Description says it’s fits easily in standard 16” spaced studs. This is not true or at least not described well enough. The width of the safe from left to right on the inside of the safe not the boarder is 14 3/4”. Studs are 16” from mid stud to the next mid stud so I had to shave wood off from the studs on each side, about 3/4 inch split between two studs for the safe to fit. This was not easy but I was able to do it with a sawzall and a multi tool. Once I did this the safe fit perfectly and operates perfectly. I wasn’t prepared or aware I would have to do this until I cut out the sheet rock and measured the distance between the studs. the safe was 3/4 inch too big left to right. Again, it will work but takes work. They need to change the description. ... show more

The safe is good overall. The keypad always seems to indicate the batteries are low and the open know seems flimsy. But it installs well and solid. Being fireproof is important.

    • Impossible to install without trimming down the studs

Well the safe itself is good but the design and size is awful. Who designs a safe to go between the studs in the wall where it can’t just slide in?? What was supposed to be a quick install install ended up with us having to buy special tools and shave down the studs 1/4” on each side so the safe could fit between. Studs are 16” apart but that is from center to center so the safe doesn’t fit. Would not recommend this safe due to the complexity of the install. Edited review: The directions to set the code seem easy, but the code will not set. We are still trying to change the code from the factory set code. This safe was very easy to install. It has plenty of room for everything we need to store. Its perfect for our needs.

I prefer this type of key entry over the standard cylinder key (that could be opened with a pen tube) What was stated in the description: fits in standard 16" wall bays. Not true, that is 14.5" but the safe measures 14.75" wide for the recess. The rough opening you will need is 15"x21" in a standard 2x4 wall with 1/2" drywall on the face the safe is being mounted ... show more
