  • first scanner under 1000 that is actually legit
I don't write reviews often, I tied the pop2 and it was immediately clear it was not going be easy to get good scans. I really wanted an einscan because the videos I saw showed it likely was a legit scanner with great software. I searched around again and happened to find that the einstar just came out, and I was skeptical that this thing would be descent as such a low price point, but I was hopeful because I knew einstars other scanners were probably really good.. but I didn't want to spend 5k to 10k for one of those. So I decided to take a chance, but only because it was prime and I could return it easily. Well, it did not take long to be very pleasantly surprised. This thing is a bargain. I mean 1k is a lot of money, but when you compare it with what is out there, this is nothing short of a breakthrough in price performance. I know I sound like I work for the company but I have nothing to do with them I am just a customer, who got way more than they were expecting, this thing is legit, and it is one of those moments in technology history where you can see a big leap in price/performance being made. A big part of it, and I cannot stress this enough, is the software. These things need to have excellent software in addition to hardware, and the einstar software is very very excellent, refreshingly so. I mean it is not just good for scanning software, it is just very slick and polished and easy to use software in general, and this is coming from me, a nerd who has worked at Microsoft for 30 years. I am overjoyed by this product, it is a revolution, a watershed moment in the world of scanning stuff. I can't wait to see what the next version brings. It is so great to get a product that is way better than your expectations.. I feel like I hope that someone at the company doesn't suddenly realize they are giving us a low prices scanner that is so good that it might cannibalize their higher prices ones, because it is almost as good, I mean it is 1/5th the price, but the resolution is not even close to 5 times worse. It is kind of like when the iPhone came out, it was a big level up in phones, it made all other phones at that price point look like amateurs. This is like the iphone of 1000 dollar scanners, it just kicked every 1k scanner out there to the curb. ... show more

  • This Will Certainly Require Some PRACTICE
I bought this EINSTAR scanner to work with my 3D printer. It is well built, and a good value for the money. however, it is NOT as simple as pointing it at something to scan the surface. I am still struggling to get a GOOD scan of simple shapes. I even purchased a photographic turntable to make it possible to hold the scanner steady while the subject rotates slowly in front of the scanner. I am sure it is just a matter of practice, but DO NOT expect to pull this out of the box and start scanning .stl files immediately. ... show more

  • This thing is insane
This thing is insane. I wanted to get it to scan cars and it does well. You do have to learn the technique but it's not bad at all. I did already have a good laptop with a 3070 in it and you do need 32 gigs of ram but high requirement specs isn't the scanner's fault. The tracking is very good in my opinion. You don't need to use targets unless you're scanning flat surfaces without "features". We're at a time where buying something like this is within reach of normal people. ... show more

  • Overweight Piece of Plastic
Scanner itself is heavy and not ergonomic for extended use. Requires constant computer connection. Software is trash and their site does not provide any support or elaboration on any features in their software. Tried to use this for almost a month straight and Im getting better scans on an android app with an old phone. Thank god for amazons 30 day returns. ... show more
