  • Works as advertised. So far it is well worth the price!
Style: 16" Line IQ Trimmer w/4Ah Battery
Very light weight; but I did order the shoulder strap to give my left arm a break. It took some time to dial it in and balance it for my reach and grip. Easy to do though. The auto-load for the string works very well and is a welcome feature. I snapped the line on a metal wire and had to reload it. No problem at all. The auto line feed also works as advertised and can startle you when it happens. I've used it for two weekends and on two lots and I have no issues or complaints. The batteries handle well and charge in little time. I may just have to get a leaf blower now since I got the two batteries deal. ... show more

  • Highly adjustable, high productivity trimmer with great battery capacity
Style: 16" Line IQ Trimmer w/4Ah Battery
To set the stage, I'm 87 years old with hands pretty well crippled by rheumatoid arthritis. A few years ago I volunteered to do trimming for a non-profit Nature Education Center, an old farm with extensive lawns, driveways, fence lines and structures. Lots of lawn grass, high grass, weeds including thistles, briars, etc.. Due to terrain, exposed rocks and tree roots, etc., there are extensive stretches the riding mower can't access so I actually do a fair amount of lawn mowing with the trimmer. I first used an EGO 1500 series trimmer with two 2.5 AH batteries and an accessory EGO shoulder strap. In two-plus seasons, I trimmed for a couple of hours almost every day that weather permitted so the trimmer received heavy use. It refused to run in early September, 2023. The new EGO 1623T offered some attractive features so I purchased it rather than have the 1500 repaired. Assembly posed minor problems. In a couple of spots machine screws have to pass through a drilled hole in one part and thread into a hole in a mating part. Alignments were not perfect and required a fair amount of strength to correct. However, given the machine that emerged, this is certainly no deal breaker. I was concerned that the new 4.0 AH battery might make the unit unpleasantly heavy. Not to worry. The increased weight is barely noticeable and the unit's balance is quite good. The increased battery capacity saves a lot of travel time getting spares. What amazed me most of all about the trimmer is how long the supplied spool of trimmer string lasted. I started using the trimmer on Sept. 6th. The last of the supplied string kicked out on Sept. 21st. The automatic line feed feature worked perfectly the entire time. The combination of the high-capacity battery, not having to bump-feed, not losing string to accidental bump-feeds and the durability of the EGO string allows long periods of uninterrupted work. I had previously used non-EGO string on large spools but have switched to EGO string for its durability. Needless to say, the EGO string loading process remains as painless as ever. Just take a 14 ft. length of string, pass one end into a hub eyelet, through the hub and out the other eyelet, even up the ends and push the close-by green button. The motor clicks away and the string in spooled inside. The 56 volt batteries are easy to grip and handle and they install and remove easily. I found early on with the prior 1500 series model that I needed a shoulder strap to take some of the weight and bought the AP1500 EGO strap. My experience with that strap has been disappointing with respect to longevity. At the machine end the nylon strap threads through a rectangular ring and is stitched back to itself to complete the attachment. The ring has an attached hook that clips onto a fitting on the trimmer tube. The problem is that the stitching used to close the loop around the ring is inadequate and fails prematurely. I have 3 otherwise-usable EGO straps that are useless because that stitching failed. I tried a generic strap but found the shoulder pad is much shorter than EGO's. That makes it much fussier to position on the strap such that it locates properly on the shoulder. By the way, I've seen reviews of the strap complaining that the shoulder pad doesn't attach to the strap and, instead, slides along it. In fact, the pad has to slide along the strap as the strap is adjustable in length. How it's adjusted determines where the pad should be located. One has only to pull the strap taut, slide the pad so it's centered at the top of the loop, lift the machine with a hand under the pad, pass the strap over the head and drop it on the shoulder. Other than the mentioned failure mode, the strap is well made and has an excellent shoulder pad. My fingers are misaligned due to the arthritis. With the 1500 trimmer I found it difficult to keep my index finger from slipping off the trigger. I improved the situation by wrapping rubber bands around the slippery plastic trigger to improve the grip. On that machine the trigger lock is a thumb-operated button. On the 1623 the trigger lock is a small lever at the forward end of the trigger. It is easily operated by the side of the finger being used to control the trigger. I find no tendency for my finger to slip off the trigger. The adjustments for tube length and the handle position are secure and operate smoothly. I routinely operate the unit in the lower speed range. My sense is that it's roughly equivalent in effectiveness to the 1500 at that setting. I switched it to the high setting to get a sense of what that offered and concluded that the speed wasn't needed and was therefore draining the battery unnecessarily. Bottom line: I'm glad my 1500 failed as the 1623 offers so much more convenience and productivity, albeit at a price premium. ... show more

  • EDITED: Initial impression.
Style: 16" Line IQ Trimmer w/4Ah Battery
I woke up one day recently, and realized I'm an old guy. I do NOT have the stamina to wrestle with stubborn gas engines anymore. So, I looked around at cordless weed whackers. My son got one of the competition's offerings, and I test drove it. I decided that it would probably be *adequate*. Barely. Next stop, Youtube, where a channel compared about 7 brands, including the EGO. Tested torque, noise, battery longevity, how long it takes to charge the battery, how fast they actually cut down a measured overgrown patch of weeds, and more. EGO didn't take very many first places, but all averaged out, it came in close to the best. After watching the video, and comparing prices, I settled on the EGO. One brand that I really liked was priced nearly double the EGO, the other brand that I had a preference for failed on vibration. So, my EGO arrived about 2 1/2 hours ago. I was anxious because it appeared to be damaged, but the inner box was just fine. Opened the inner box, and laid everything out, and put the battery to charging. (Battery had one light showing, which seems to be normal because the battery does it's maintenance discharge after 30 days.) I got the machine assembled, and put the strap on it, then waited another 1/2 hour for the battery to charge. Then I attacked an overgrown fenceline, literally covered in briars. This is the same test I put my son's weed whacker to, last week. In my opinion, it was doing the same job as his did - then I remembered to push the button to shift into high gear. Whoo-weee! Now we're cooking! Those briars were flying every which way! Yeah, mine is quite a lot more powerful than his. I worked pretty steady for about 20 minutes, then gave up because of the heat. Check the battery, and it's down one bar on the fuel guage. Plug the battery into the charger, and it says the battery is down two bars out of five. I plan to be outside tomorrow when the sun comes up, and work until the 4.0 AH battery gives up. I have a little over 1/2 mile of fence line to clear. I will be really intimate with this little machine by that time! The 20 minutes I spent out there this evening knocked out about 40, maybe 50 feet of that overgrowth. I shall return to report how well this EGO trimmer breaks in. EDITED: OK, the trimmer is working out very nicely. It is eating up those briars quite well, on my side of the dirt road. I've expanded a little, and I'm clearing weeds , along with a few briars on the neighbors side of the road. THAT is much, much faster!! An additional chore, is in the garden. There are places where weeds have gotten away from me. Pulling some of them are a major chore, but you can't get equipment in among sprawling melons, squash, etc. Enter the EGO trimmer. The worst overgrown spots in the garden, I can get the trimmer within a couple inches of any plant I wish to keep, and the weeds are simply GONE. The same applies to the flower garden, but that isn't nearly so overgrown as the vegetable garden. (That has an established, more mature lawn surrounding it, easy to mow, easy to weed.) I am definitely seeing the value of another battery! There are days when my health and the heat decides that a single charge is enough work for the day. Other days, I feel I can keep on going, but the charge is used up too quickly. I am probably going to get a blower kit, whichever one has the largest battery. Not much point in getting a smaller battery! Oh, trimmer string. The string shipped with the trimmer ran out quickly. I purchased some more string at the local farmer's coop, which was used up almost as quickly. I purchased a large roll of 22-895 Magnum Gatorline which was lasting longer. Then, I learned via Youtube to moisten the line. I dropped the entire roll into a bucket of water, and left it there for a few minutes. Took the roll out, and put it on the shelf where I keep it. Moistening the line almost doubles how long the string will last!! Wow! So, after two weeks, I'm still very happy with my EGO trimmer. Still 5 stars!! ... show more

  • Incredible power
Style: 16" Line IQ Trimmer w/4Ah Battery
Wow this machine has some power. I have used mixed gas power trimmers. This is just as powerful and that was on low speed. I bought the one that came with an extra battery. The string trimmer is amazing. No need to bump the machine to advance the string. The string stays at the same length which helps out when you are trimming next to fence or house. The battery can last up to an hour. Unlike other trimmers that last only 30 minutes. Even with the bigger battery the trimmer did not seen heavy. It was well balanced. You have to assemble some parts on the trimmer. It takes less than five minutes to add the guard and handle. ... show more

  • Really like this trimmer!
Style: 15" Powerload Trimmer w/2.5Ah Battery
This thing is a beast. Easy to use. Love the reload feature. Very sturdy. It is a little heavier than my old electric corded model and that will take some getting used to. But it’s worth it for the effectiveness of the tool. Very glad I purchased it. wish it had come with a quick adjust handle, because it would be nice to move it around when I’m trimming versus edging. Probably will purchase that $20 accessory. Battery life is fine for me. I can get Through all of the edging and trimming I need to do on my yard with a single charge. ... show more
