Features

  • DUAL DIRECTION- Operate in CRT mode (counter rotating tines) to bust sod and till tough soils, then shift to SRT (standard rotating tines) to create a smooth seed bed for planting.
  • FRUSTRATION FREE SHIFTING- Pioneer removes the guesswork from getting in gear with a shift positioning system that other dual direction tillers envy. No fuss, no cuss, no back and forth... easily find the drive mode you want by simply sliding the shift handle into your preferred mode on the locator plate.
  • COMPACT POWER- Designed for performance, the Pioneer uses a lighter and quieter 99cc Viper engine that is right-sized for the job reducing the weight and offering a smoother, less noisy and more balanced experience during operation.
  • INSTANT REVERSE- Unlike its competitors, Pioneer takes the shift out of backing up. Seamlessly maneuver backward in your garden with the quick pull of a handle. Release the handle to go forward again.
  • AIRLESS WHEELS- Not only will the super-wide airless wheels never go flat, they have seriously aggressive lugs for clawing at the dirt for maximum traction.
  • DUAL-GRIP HANDLEBARS: Step to the side of your tilling path and employ one-handed operation to avoid those annoying footsteps in your seed-bed.
  • HIGHLY MANEUVERABLE- With its compact frame and balanced weight distribution, the Pioneer allows for fluid navigation in tight growing spaces and stable pivoting capability at the end of garden rows.
  • 5-YEAR WARRANTY-The Earthquake Pioneer is backed by a 5-year warranty and US based service and support.

Description

If you’ve ever used a rear tine tiller before you know they are the best way to break up sod and till soil. But if you’ve ever put a rear tine tiller in a garden and tried to control it around fences and precious rows, it may feel like holding onto a bucking bronco or a taking a bear cub for a walk. From breaking ground to creating a smooth seed-bed, the Earthquake Pioneer is designed to give you more control while still providing all of the benefits that dual-directions are known for. The arrangement of the transmission in the middle of the tiller creates a low center of gravity that is the key to a balanced and stable tilling experience. The transmission design also offers incredible efficiency allowing you accomplish the same amount of work as other tillers while taking advantage of an engine that is a lot lighter and a lot quieter than a typical rear-tine tiller. Featuring instant reverse, a simple pull of a handle allows you to back up without shifting gears. Dual control handlebars and a compact footprint make maneuvering in tight spaces a breeze and allow for one handed operation. Our super-wide airless tires never go flat and provide incredible traction. No matter what your garden challenge, Pioneer is designed to deliver from sod to seed.

  • Very impressed so far
Pattern Name: Tiller
Came in one box, open the top and get the instructions out, follow the instructions!, the plastic belt shroud is under the handles from the top, the instructions are well written and easy to follow, you'll need a metric socket set to assemble or wrenches, they even ship the engine oil with it in a bottle, once assemble and oiled the thing started on the litteral first pull, it has the power the chop through glacial clay sod and is very quiet, the reverse is a loop under the handle bars that's super smooth and easy to use, the tines will rotate in either direction or you can drive it without the tines rotating, the free wheel neutral is the best, this tiller rolls very easy, you can also till with one hand like in the commercials and I think it's because of the big wide airless wheels, very satisfied. ... show more

  • Very good machine
Pattern Name: Tiller
This tiller is very well built and easy to use. Be aware that after you open the box and get the instructions, you’ll need to close the box and turn it upside down as part of the assembly process occurs with the unit upside down in the box. So do not unpack everything before reading the instructions. The tiller starts easy even when cold. I have very hard packed soil here in Montana and the unit struggled with it, I had to go over it in different directions a few times to get the soil loosened up. I would consider this a more of a light duty machine. If you have a large area and hard packed soil you might consider a larger heavy duty machine if you’re able to handle it. As I am in my late 60’s this one is easier for me to use Overall I am very satisfied with the performance of this machine and would recommend it ... show more

  • The best tiller I have ever had
Pattern Name: Tiller
I was amazed at the ease of use and how well it broke up my garden. I am disabled and yet I was able to use the tiller with no problems. The only frustration I had was the instructions for putting it together were not as detailed as I would haave liked. I would buy this tiller again if this one ever wears out. ... show more

  • Unacceptable
Pattern Name: Tiller
We ordered an Earthquake 31285 Pioneer Dual-Direction Rear-Tine Tiller, an expensive piece of equipment, on August 17, 2022, from ARDISAM, distributed by Acme Tools, Grand Fork, ND.. It was delivered on August 29, 2022. The tiller was defective and never worked. We contacted Ardisam, the company, and were told to bring it to an authorized repair shop about twenty miles from our home. We did. Fast forward...it is February 7, 2023 and we still do not have the tiller. We were told in response to a recent call that the company would order a new transmission and deliver it across the country to the repair shop. We need the tiller right now, or we need our money back. I tried to contact the company myself today. The chat line person supposedly went to look for the part...and hung up on me. I am now on the phone with a client specialist of ADISAM, Inc. Initially he seemed to have no idea when the transmission was, or where it was, coming from, although he had previously promised my husband that he was ordering one. When I persisted, he then indicated that they actually have the part and he is not sure what is going on. He put me on hold. I asked him to please not hang up on me like the chat line person did. He actually followed up on it, indicated that they do have the part in stock, that the authorized repair company never called them to reqiuest the part, but that they will ship it to that company, and will email me when they ship it. We'll see .Something is wrong somewhere but hopefully this will resolve quickly. Stay tuned... After talking with ADISAM, the client specialist immediately sent a new transmission to the authorized repair company. It was received by the repair shop within two days. I am hopeful that we can get a functional tiller in time to do the tilling we need to do get done in the next 3-4 weeks. ... show more

  • I was a front tine man until this.
Pattern Name: Tiller
What do I rave about first, The low speed torque of that 99cc engine. You don't need to run the engine wide open to till. The transmission that goes into neutral, drive, counter rotating or standard rotating tines. This is a great feature. How it rips through sod to break ground in counter rotating mode. Yes, expand the garden this year, and it was easy. How little vibration is transmitted to my wrists compared to front time? I used to ice my wrists after tilling because it fired up my carpal tunnels. This was a joy to operate. I'm 67 years old, still gardening. I've used 6 different tillers in my life, this is my favorite. Assembly instructions, OPEN THE BOX, READ THE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS, THEN PROCEED. Part of assembly is to close the box and flip it over. Pay attention. Earthquake also has an assembly video on youtube. ... show more

  • Decent tiller
Pattern Name: Tiller
Easy to assemble. Started right up, easy to maneuver. Power was okay. It struggled on a few roots. It's smaller and will fit between the rows.

  • Bought new but defective engine
Pattern Name: Tiller
I am updating my prior review to upgrade overall rating. Local repair shops were limited to 2 options and neither one wanted to take on the warranty work, however, the company did ship me a new replacement engine and I found a local shop that did the work. New engine working well and otherwise good machine. ... show more

  • Easy to use for moderate use.
Pattern Name: Tiller
It is easy to set up. Also, it handles very well, very smooth for a tilller that is not very heavy. It breaks ground fairly well, but it requires a few passes, as expected, for something in this weight range. Starts with one pull. Highly recommended for anyone with normal to heavy use, not for commercial use in my opinion but for the most part it will work for everyone. ... show more
