If you're even thinking about this product seriously enough to read reviews, you're probably here with two questions on your mind - is it really silicone, and is it really leakproof? Yes, to both of those. In 2015, our daughter was diagnosed with an endocrine disorder and allergies to 50+ foods and additives. I spent the rest of the year figuring out how to carry snacks and full meals everywhere, and doing some disturbing research about the impact of plastics (especially when heated) on our bodies and the environment. I never thought I'd be That Mom, but life throws interesting curve balls at you. No more plastic in the microwave or dishwasher, ever. I spent 2016 washing tons of little cups and lids by hand while they multiplied like rabbits all over the sink and counters, and doing some research on how to make that STOP. (I don't have time to be That Mom, especially since we have a perfectly good dishwasher.) It was quick and easy to determine the answer was glass, stainless steel, and 100% food grade silicone. It was not so quick and easy to source that. From the high end to the low end, most of the glass and stainless containers out there have plastic lids or seals. ECOlunchbox to the rescue, in a big way. They have several different stainless steel products, all good - but if you're looking for leakproof, you need the Blue Water Bento line. We tried this container before investing because it was the smallest and cheapest. We filled it with hot water, turned it upside down and shook it - not a drop escaped. We used it, ran both cup and lid through a dishwasher cycle on high, and repeated the test. Once again, LEAKPROOF. We immediately invested in another $85 of these containers in different shapes and sizes (rectangles and rounds) that nest inside each other for storage. The small ones are definitely small - they are, as advertised, SNACK pods. That said, they hold a generous school snack or decent side dish portion. For reference, my little one has a PlanetBox lunch bento and these are too big to fit inside it with the lid closed. (The Ecolunchbox pods with stainless steel lids are smaller, and do fit inside a bento. Also, these silicone lids are NOT interchangeable with the smaller ECO pods - different dimensions. They do seal, more or less, and will cover the food - but will not be leakproof.) In terms of the integrity and safety of silicone, these pass the pinch test; but I highly recommend visiting the Ecolunchbox website to read about the company's founding, standards, and commitment to safety for people and the environment. They are the real deal. They also have a great blog with links to all kinds of cool, creative green ideas, if that's your thing. My 2017 kitchen is finally uncluttered and my dishpan hands are healing. I'm one happy mama. So why the four stars? I'd give it 4.5 if I could, but these are pricy. There's no other way to spin that. I can tell you from pricing other, similar products on the market that they are definitely competitive...and again, the only ones that are leakproof, 100% silicone and stainless. They run sales on their site, but...yeah. You're going to spend some money. For our current lifestyle and needs, it was an investment. If you have a healthy family and you're okay with plastic in the dishwasher (and believe me, I get it), there are cheaper options. But if you're constantly packing lunches and snacks for work, school, travel, gym, etc., and you're looking for a truly no plastic option to throw in the dishwasher, this is IT. (I hope it goes without saying, but don't microwave them. The lids will survive, but stainless in the microwave is no bueno.) ... show more

Summary: I adore this product. Why do I love something so simple and perfectly designed? It's obvious! I carry this to work everyday with a serving of fruit. I no longer haunt the snack machine at work. Why: I've found that I use a product more if it's easy to use, aesthetically pleasing and fun. Usage: I add grapes or chopped strawberries to this container and it fits 1 cup. This is so easy to open and close and will fit in the food slightly overlaps the rim. Size: Definitely let kids use it too (it's so easy to open), although it might be a bit small for a large adult, but 1 cup of fruit is all that I need, personally. I bring two of these to work everyday, try out the other shapes. I can't wait until they finally produce a huge container large enough for me to carry a salad (please!!) 16 or 32 oz would be nice. Couple it with frego if you need a microwave safe meal container! I only keep my smallest plastic containers for nuts and seeds now, there's no need to use them for fruit or veggies. ... show more

I have had this and a "splash pod" since this business launched with Kickstarter back in 2017. Even after 3-4 years and many, many runs through the dishwasher (top rack!), this product looks and works like new. I've never put anything super liquid in it to prove its leakproof-ness, but I have definitely thrown it in a backpack or purse with dry snacks and the lid has never come off. Perfectly stores half a lemon... The only downside is that I sometimes put it in the fridge and forget about it since I can't see through the container, so I prefer to use glass in the fridge so I try and use these for less perishable items like nuts or other small snacks. Great product, recently purchased several larger sizes directly from the manufacturer. They are not cheap but it is an investment that will not disappoint. ... show more

These Bento Seal Cups are seriously the BEST containers I have ever used. I love that the lids are silicone, not plastic. I avoid plastic when it comes to food, but I also like the silicone because if you pack slightly more than the size of the containers, the lid will still conform to the containers, with just a small bump across the top. This container is leakproof as advertised. I have ran it through my dishwasher several times and I have had no issues. I have not used either of the pieces in the oven so I can't say anything about that part. The container is spacious. I fit THREE Mandarin oranges with room to spare in this container. The small Bento Seal Cup holds a lot and I continue to be impressed with it. I have used other products by this company and so far, this is definitely my favorite.
