  • Echo CS-310-16 Great value for the money!
I owned an Echo string trimmer purchased in the early 2000's and used that weekly during the mowing season for 15 years with absolutely no problems until I finally sold it when I moved from CT to NH. Prior to this purchase, I owned a Sthil MS250 for the same amount of time. That saw ran well however from time to time, starting it could be an issue. After reading other reviews about the easy start Echo, and the excellent performance of my Echo string trimmer, I decided to purchase the Echo CS-310. I do not use wood as a heat source, only as camp fire wood, so my use of the saw will be for that purpose when necessary. I had a pile of logs sitting in my yard from our home construction and was tired of looking at them, hence the purchase. I opted for the 16" bar due to the size logs I had sitting in my yard. I was a bit skeptical about the CS-310 even after reading all the prior reviews. My main concern was the 30 cc engine being a bit undersized for the logs I had to cut, the biggest being appox 13" in diameter. Overall I was very pleased with the performance of the saw. First, this saw was a breeze to start. After filling with fuel and pulling over twice with choke on, the saw started on the third pull. The weather was not cooperating here in southern NH so I would cut for 20 mins then we'd get a rain storm. Each time I came back out, the chainsaw would start on the first pull....a very easy pull. Much easier than my Stihl. The saw comes with a low kickback Oregon chain. I've read other reviews about replacing the chain, but it seemed to work fine for me. If you are doing this type of work on an ongoing basis, I would probably suggest a saw with a larger engine (maybe the CS-400?), but I will not be cutting logs of this size continuosly, so for me, this was the perfect "homeowner" chainsaw purchase. As other have already said, I think this saw is a great value for the money. ... show more

  • Worth it for home owner.
Worth it for a home owner. Starts easy, runs great. I have cut down 3 pine trees without a problem. It's small and easy to handle. If you have plans on hacking down a forest go with a name brand.

  • Powerful saw for the weight
I bought this saw to replace my worn out CS-346 and it's perfect, it's light weight and easy to use, basic controls and a pretty straight forward design all around. Cut right through 18 inch hickory no problem. I read some people had issues with it running properly, but I had no issues at all. I will update my review if any issues arise. ... show more

  • Worked 1 time? Really? 1 Time?
I bought this product to cut up a small tree that I had removed at our new house. I used a battery powered chainsaw to cut down the tree, but figured I would step up to a gas powered Echo to cut the tree into smaller pieces. It took a few tries to get it started, but it worked well the first time. A few weeks later, I went to cut up some other smaller trees. I could not get the saw started. I messed around with it for a couple of hours and finally got it to start. However, whenever I would give it gas, it would die. I cleaned out the existing gas, although it was the same gas I used for the first use, and put in new gas/oil mix. I still could not get the saw to run when revving. The saw will idle fine, but once you pull the lever to give it gas, it stops. So, I have paid over $200 for an item I could use once. Complete disappointment. ... show more

  • This is good for home use, but no more.
It's a nice light weight chain saw over all, and suitable for light duty work like trimming trees but not much more. Assembly is not difficult and only takes a few minutes. Gassed it up and put chain oil in and went to start it. After reading about some peoples problems, I made sure I pumped gas into the carb with the little push bulb and pulled out the choke. Pulled the starter rope a couple times, put the choke back in and had no problem starting it up. I had to cut up a couple trees that were damaged by a heavy wind storm here, so I was able to test the performance of this little saw right away. Started off great, cutting through a small tree, about 8" in diameter; cut it up into fire place sized pieces no problem. After that though the chain required frequent adjustment, which is kind of a pain in the butt because of the way it's designed. You have to loosen the two nuts on the chain drive housing before you can adjust, then tighten them back down. You will have to do this several times as you continue to use the saw. By the time I finished with the other trees the chain was completely dull. Should have bought extra chains, but really I didn't expect it to wear out so quickly. It's not like I live on a ranch or something. Over all I think it's a good chain saw for the money, but I deducted a star due to it being such a poor design for the chain adjustment and another star for not having a better chain life. For light home use it's a good value for the money, but if you want it for heavier use look elsewhere. ... show more

  • My new Echo
I had been using a smaller Black and Decker rechargeable for years. Got tired of not being able to find new batteries locally on the big island, and no-one would ship them to me. Went to this gas powered 16" Echo. I love this thing!! I use strictly ethanol free gas in my gas powered mowers, trimmers, and this. I never have starting problems. Bye bye B&D, and hello Echo! ... show more
