  • Poor man/woman's cell phone macro lens
The lens is single element so crisp focus isn't what you're going to get. Also has noticeable barrel distortion. No color separation so far as I can tell. (Does that suggest a multielement lens?) If these things are important to you find another way to take your closeups. However, for a quick and easy way to get closeups in non-critical applications this is probably better than devices twice the price. One complaint is the unknown durability of the elastic band that holds the lens and is the means of attaching it to your phone. I suggest that you not store the device with the band stretched around the card it's shipped with. Recommend with the limitations noted. I'd buy it again. ... show more

  • Handy tool for super iPhone closeups
This very simple band with a macro lense that fits over one of the camera lenses. I’ve played with it (only had it a few hours) and the quality seems good. Happy with this purchase.

  • For those who are patient and want to take pictures of very still things smaller than an inch.
Super awesome. My weird obsession with taking pictures of tiny lizards and other tiny insects has been taken to the next level. I caught a baby lizard between 3-4in from nose to tail and took a close up of its eye/head and asked friends and family to estimate how large it was in real life. Their guesses were generally over a foot. Mission accomplished. I also like using this to take close-ups of other Amazon items I purchase since it can show the detailed material better than the actual producers' photos. I can show to others what I wish I had seen before buying. My only concern is that most rubber bands don't last forever. If it breaks, whether that's in several months or several years, I'll be back to make a note, so from whatever time stamp there is on this post till the time you view it, you'll know it's still holding up well. Though out of 356 reviews, only 3 have reported the rubber band breaking, so that's a very good sign. I also really like how you can slip it over the phone case without much of an alteration to the photo quality. I was expecting to have to take the phone out of the case, but I didn't have to, so that's nice. It's less of a hassle that way. ------- Photo Notes: The black thing with white lines is my cutting mat, and each line is 0.1" apart. As you can see, 1" wide will not fit, but from .6-.8 the quality is pretty good. Taking a good and non-blurry picture actually has a lot to do with skill and not with the lens itself. If you don't hold the camera still enough or if you're just slightly too close/too far away, (and you have a very small window for finding that perfect picture) it'll be blurry. It also has a lot to do with your phone camera. I have a samsung galaxy s4, so the camera is pretty decent, though even on its own the pictures can come out blurry if you don't focus it properly or if there isn't enough light. Practice helps a lot, honestly. Please don't blame the well-made lens if you can't take great pictures the second you pick it up. It gets easier over time to find that sweet spot. In order to get an idea of what they are and an idea of size, here's a list of subjects I took photos of: The lizard is roughly 3-4in long in real life. In one picture, my Möbii Spin Ring is visible. It's made of aluminum. I added the picture so you can get an idea of how reflective materials like metals appear through the lens. I wear a size 7 ring, so you can tell it's really close up to not even show the full finger. If you pull it away any further, it comes out of focus. The watch is a cheap timex I've had for several years to show how wear and tear can be shown close up The joystick and buttons are from a moga game controller to show the details of plastic and rubber parts. As you can see, flat materials tend to be a bit easier to show since curved edges like the handle get really blurry the further down the object it is. and the last purple thing is the material of a blanket --------------------------- All photos included are included for the specific purpose of showing the level of detail that the lens is capable of with different materials/objects. These aren't meant to be endorsements. I'm adding the pictures and their names in case you want to see what the items actually look like without the lens on. I thought it would be helpful, and that's the only reason I added them. --------------------------- ... show more

  • Easy to use
My wife likes this, it’s simple to use, takes good pictures. She’s using it to take pictures of caterpillars and butterflies on our plants.

  • Well worth the price
But it does have limitations. If you want to take very closeup pictures, showing great detail of inanimate, or still objects, this is for you. You have to get very close and hold the phone very still. It worked well with my phone still in the case, but worked much better removed from the case. the attached photo is in focus at about 2", and as you can see, the penny filled the field of view. It is very easy to use and comes with a protective sleeve that I think will do a good job. I just received it so cannot address durability, ... show more

  • It is not for the serious photographer. You get what you pay for.
Well there were no directions to tell you how you may be able to contact manufacture about it's use. Or access to any tutorials. But what can you expect for $15 - snap shots. . As with any macro lens, the depth of field is very narrow, especially if flowers are not all in the same plane. To really get a sharp image it is best to use a tripod or self timer to avoid blurry photos. If flowers are blowing in the wind you should use a pipcleaner to help control movement. I have only used hand held so the images were not tack sharp. I worry with hot summer weather the rubberband becoming ruined with the heat. I plan to keep the lens in it's original holder. ... show more
