  • Yet another keeper from EART!
Color: Tobacco Sunburst
Summary: Top notch guitar with stunning looks. Lots of tonal possibilities using the four knobs. The EAR 335 came extremely well packaged in a Styrofoam cocoon. The action was low and the intonation perfect right out of the box. I noticed some fret buzz on the lower frets with the low strings. I was able to add a tiny bit of relief and eliminate the fret buzz while maintaining the low action and excellent playability. I find this instrument very light and comfortable to hold. There are lots of tonal possibilities between the four knobs and pickup adjustments. It is loud enough to practice unplugged. I have no complaints whatsoever, but will mention a few things you should know. This guitar is not designed to use at very high gains, because it is more prone to feedback than a solid body. It is also difficult to add EMI shielding to a semi-hollow. I play my EART 610 LP when I want to get loud. There are no coil split circuits. You can get different tones, but those will all be darker than a Strat. Finally, beware of the manufacturers warning about the thin lacquer finish. I scratched the back of the guitar on Day 1 with my suspender. Don't be like me, and enjoy your EART! ... show more

  • This is really good guitar
Color: Tobacco Sunburst
After lots of reviews (YouTube videos in particular), I was already expecting to like this guitar, but was pleasantly surprised at just how much I did. I own a 1987 Gibson 335 and a 1995 Gibson ES175 (which I love), a couple of Ibanez Artcore jazz boxes, and four other interesting vintage 1-trick ponies, but I wanted a guitar onto which I could install a Roland GK-3 synth pickup. Although EART calls it a "335", it's really more of 330/Casino-style hollow body, and while I'd already planned on upgrading the electronics, pickups, and bridge/tail stop as my experience with Chinese (and even Korean) guitars has been that something needs to be sacrificed in order to keep the prices so low with hardware usually being the case. But I must admit that the EART's really isn't that bad. It sounds good, [mine] plays great right out of the box, stays in tune, and the overall luthier-ship is commendable to say the least. It's bullet-rounded polished stainless frets and bone nut are exceptions to the general rule of inexpensive Asian guitars. Some buyers reported minor issues with the way their guitar was factory setup and/or slop in the finish, but perhaps I lucked out and got a great example. I like the lightly sprayed finish which gives the guitar more of an acoustic vibe and will probably even mic it for some recordings. The neck is smooth and very fast, reminding me of a SG I had as a kid. One thing to keep in mind is if you plan on using a heavy-duty gig bag, is that the angle and length of the head stock, for me, meant that I needed to increase the height of the neck rest in the Gator Pro-Go 335 case that I bought for the guitar. This probably won't matter in a typical hard case. MODS: I'm waiting for a custom wiring harness to arrive before I install the TonePros locking bridge and locking tail stop, and the only reason the pickups are as-of-yet unpurchased is that hot version of the Mojotone '59 clone neck pickup is on backorder and the bridge pickup MAY need to be replaced with a soapbar P90 or mini-humbucker. The reason for this latter issue is that, unlike pretty much every hollow body I've owned or seen, the distance between the bridge and the bridge pickup is incredibly tight, potentially making the installation the GK-3 pickup impossible without some modification. I've already determined that reversing the direction of the bridge (so that the intonation screws will face the tail stop) will not adversely affect the strings and will afford some extra room for the Roland pickup, although that still may not be enough. Fortunately, there are a lot of mini-humbuckers and soapbars to choose from these days. All in all, I'm very pleased with this guitar and expect to both record and perform with it for years to come. ... show more

  • It's a Keeper
Color: E-325 Tobacco Sunburst
The model I'm reviewing is the 325 - Offset cutaway, one volume, one tone. This is an excellent guitar for a beginner or intermediate player. If you're an advanced player with high level instruments you probably don't need this guitar. The good: More than adequate for use on gigs and recording. Came very well set up: Intonation, neck relief, string height, and nut cut were all solid and needed no adjustment. Great neck - very easy and enjoyable to play. It stays in tune really well. Two hour playing session required only slight retuning. Very light weight. In fact I had to get used to how light it is ... but that's not a complaint. Volume control is useable throughout it's full range. No noticeable drop off of treble as you lower the volume. Tone control is well voiced. Plenty of useable sounds and variety. Pickups are smooth, not harsh. All three positions are distinct and useable. The other: One volume and one tone is probably a cost cutting choice, but I'm a fan. I like it better than the four control models I own. I did have to raise the pickups to get the best response. I'm not a total fan of the matte, open pore, finish, but that's a personal preference. Two small rough spots on the F-hole binding. And two small rough spots on the neck binding. Nothing deserving complaint. Overall: I'm an experienced player with dozens of instruments. I bought the 325 to have an inexpensive and good playing, good looking guitar to use on gigs. One that I won't worry about damaging. If you're like me you may not need an instrument like this, but you may want one for it's unique look, light weight, and for gig use. I think it's worth the $400 I paid for it, but with lower tier instrument quality going up I probably wouldn't want to pay more for it. ... show more
