It's a pain to refill, but we wanted to make sure the water was good, so it's worth it. And it's way better then having to fill ice trays and wait so long. We use more ice then it makes so I'm always making sure it's full and the ice isn't triggering the full sensor. I don't think there is a better design but maybe a deeper tray and water holder which I assume would cost more. If I ever have to buy a new one I'll be looking for more ice capacity. It says ice in 7 minutes but we timed it and that is only if the machine is on and already cooled. If there is not enough water it does shut off and you have to turn it on after you refill it. We forgot that a few times actually. It makes a little noise. You can hear the water flowing when the water is low. And it makes a motor noise when the water is out. The only load noise it makes is when the ice drops down and is pushed into the basket. Small size is perfect for crunching. Large you can crunch if you let it sit in a drink first. Only had it for 6 months and now when it’s running the auto stop, stopped working do it started over flowing itself and jamming up with ice.

This is what you need when extra ice is needed. It makes ice quickly and ice holds up well after being made. But keep an eye out so as to make sure you are storing the ice you are making so that you can store in a freezer for later use.

Have had many of these counter ice makers over the years and some are junk. Even expensive ones are junk. This is one of those weird things where cheaper models are often the most reliable. They aren't crammed with dumb ideas but rather rely on intelligent design. Buy a cheap one that is self cleaning and clean it once a month. Use purified water. Easy. ... show more

This makes great ice but it takes more then the 6 minutes stated in the ad. Plus the ice melts really fast on warm days if you don't move it to the freezer. I have it set to the larger ice size. This does work for what I needed it for. My fridge does not have an ice maker and I didn't want to keep buying ice. I just have to keep moving the ice into the freezer every 15 - 20 minutes. ADDITION: Also, ice is very wet on the surface when it's done so moving it to the freezer causes the ice to stick together. ... show more
