I was skeptical about buying this unit but it has proved to be a great ice maker. I got it 5 months ago and it is still working well. I followed the directions on the set up to the letter, and the next day the ice started flowing. We ran it at least 8 hours a day for 7 or so days to build up extra ice. It works better than the ice maker in our very expensive refrigerator. Ice is soft, no taste and I can fill the ice maker in the refrigerator and it will dispense just fine. Love the capacity too. I can make enough ice in one day to last a week for 5 ice loving people. Yes there is sound when the ice drops but its not loud, not that I sleep in the kitchen, but it wouldn't keep me up if i did! Yes, the ice melts if you don't bag it up after the basket is full, but it's not a hassle and really, what ice doesn't melt? Great product! Great size. Low noise. ... show more

I've been wanting an ice maker for a while because with a family of 8 we go through a lot of ice! I got this ice maker because I hoped for something with a small footprint but a big output. We have been impressed with this ice maker and use it daily. The output is great - it makes tiny pebbles very quickly and the ice lasts a surprisingly long time in the basket. We clean it out with lemon juice in water every 1-2 weeks and the ice stays fresh and clean. My kids love the ice maker so much, they named it Pebbly. Two things would make this instrument better. First, it would be amazing to have a direct hookup to a water source so we don't have to pour water in manually. Second, it would be great to have a way for the ice to be stirred - it blocks the outlet after a while and must be manually scooped away from the spout to make room for more. Still, these two things are small concessions for a great machine at a very good price. It is a workhorse. We've been using it for several months and really enjoy it! ... show more

Value for the money, great. Ease of use and ease of cleaning, great. Functionality...great, except when ice cubes are ready, the slot tends to back up. Perhaps a redesign where angle is a bit steeper going into bin might help. At this point, unless it's physically removed from the slot, the ice maker halts making ice. No leakage whatsoever. I have been wanting a nugget ice maker for quite awhile. I am an avid ice chewer. I worried that I would break a tooth chewing my cube ice from my refrigerator freezer. The nuggets are just like the Sonic ice. And the ice maker is way cheaper than the high priced GE. It is quiet ( as much noise as a new dishwasher), steadily drops ice and takes up as much space on the counter as a bread machine. I just made my 1st 8-lb bag of ice. Granted, the ice piles up and you have to scatter the pile so it keeps dropping, but I devoted an afternoon/evening stockpiling my ice. My bag should last me about a week, depending on how much outside work I do in this +95 degree heat. One hint, empty the full bin into a plastic bowl, and put it in the freezer for about 15-20 min, allowing it to "re-freeze" since the ice is wet. This "dries" the ice. Then dump it into a plastic ice bag and give it a smack. The nuggets shatter loose for easy scooping. If all subsequent batches are as good at the 1st, I am a happy customer. ... show more

Was wanting a easy chewable ice. This maker did the trick. Was easy to set up, made ice quickly (Was producing ice within 5 min.) and fills bin in a timely manner. Water bin is easy to drain and clean. Came with an ice scoop, was plastic but works.
