I was skeptical about buying this unit but it has proved to be a great ice maker. I got it 5 months ago and it is still working well. I followed the directions on the set up to the letter, and the next day the ice started flowing. We ran it at least 8 hours a day for 7 or so days to build up extra ice. It works better than the ice maker in our very expensive refrigerator. Ice is soft, no taste and I can fill the ice maker in the refrigerator and it will dispense just fine. Love the capacity too. I can make enough ice in one day to last a week for 5 ice loving people. Yes there is sound when the ice drops but its not loud, not that I sleep in the kitchen, but it wouldn't keep me up if i did! Yes, the ice melts if you don't bag it up after the basket is full, but it's not a hassle and really, what ice doesn't melt? Great product! Great size. Low noise. ... show more

We have had a GE Opal Ice Maker for 18 months and it finally died after screaming loudly the last several months. I didn’t want to buy another GE so looked around and found this one. It is smaller and less expensive than the GE and does a much better job. After cleaning the machine per the instructions, it was ready to make ice. After less than 30 minutes, we had ice! It is a very quiet machine and makes great nugget ice. The only complaint I have is mentioned in some other reviews - the design causes the machine to think it is full of ice before it actually is. If you’re looking for a compact, nugget ice maker for one, that could easily fit alongside your child’s Easy Bake Oven in the families playroom, I think you’ve found the perfect small appliance. This ice maker requires lots of attention for a small amount of ice making. Requires awkward cleanings, where as you have the ice maker positioned at the edge of a sink, you must reach under the machine, and fumble around feeling for a drain plug, which isn’t hard to find and feel for when removing it, but replacing it is a different story. Which of course you must do 3 times in succession after you’ve run the first cleaning with a teaspoon of bleach, and two more run throughs with clean water. Quite frankly, this little gem is made for a single person, unless you want to babysit it four literally hours, bagging up small amounts of ice through a 24 hour period, adding and adding more water as you go, and placing the haul in your freezer. The main issue I have with this unit, is the positioning of how the ice falls out of the unit into the basket. The new ice seems to stack up like a small water fall that has frozen in the mountains, which is beautiful to see in nature, yet really annoying in this case, because it backs up constantly, turning the ice making mechanism off, because it thinks the basket is full, and that couldn’t be further from the truth. This predicament requires the human who purchased this machine to every 20 to 30 minutes or so, to open the lid, and using the plastic scoop, move the ice around, to get the machine to turn back on, and continue making more ice. (Excuse me for a moment, while I go and do that right now). (I’m back)! If you have all day and are diligent, you’ll have a full basket of ice, if you leave and half to work, you will come home to maybe a half basket, or less. Because that mountain freezing waterfall I mentioned, will freeze and melt, freeze and melt all day long. Look, I’ve owned a few of these types of ice makers over the years, generally they work real well for about two years, and that’s if you maintain them well, regular cleanings, only using distilled water for making ice and for all cleanings, which is the water that creates the least calcium build up. But for around $200 bucks, they aren’t bad for the money. But in this case, cleanings are annoying, because it doesn’t have the back drain tubing which many of the better ones have, and having to constantly be involved in stirring the ice in the basket, to keep the full sensor from being triggered is a pain. It’s not a loud machine, it is a compact machine, actually the smallest I’ve ever come across , but it’s a machine that if you want it to do what it’s designed to do, requires too much involvement from me, the human, I wouldn’t recommend this particular unit. At first, really nice, chewable nuggets. Not too load, but not quiet. You know it is there and working. I can live with that. Makes ice at a decent rate, but like most of these machines, ice piles up, machine shuts off, and you have to flatten the pile so it knows to keep working. They all seem to suffer from this. Requires intervention. And then the shoe drops. A really load squealing noise. What is that? Mfg says turn off, drain, refill, restart. It wasn't dirty! That works, but every day? Sometimes every two days if lucky. This baby requires lots of tender loving care to keep it making ice. And that painful noise. Please stop . If the mfg tells me one more time to celan the clean machine ... You get it. I mean, don't get it. Look for an alternative instead. ... show more

Our ice maker in our refrigerator stopped working. We got one of these to keep up with the ice consumption of our family of 4. It keeps up with no problems. So your self a favor and get some cleaning tabs and use them regularly. We use filtered water from our refrigerator and that helps keep the machine clean and ice tasting great. Makes pellet ice, what my daughters call hospital ice. Love it! ... show more

I am a chronic ice eater. This is my third countertop ice maker in 12 years of using them 24/7. I haven't bought this brand before but they all seem the same to me. I tried to include pictures of everything I'd like to know. The last picture is a side by side of the average size portable ice maker. When I received it, I thought I'd have to send it back. I was afraid it wouldn't fit underneath my upper cabinets. Once I started making ice, I noticed the cubes are about a half inch longer than the smaller ice maker. I usually fill up a 64 ounce cup of ice (which is about the amount of ice the smaller ice maker basket holds). I didn't realize how often I was refilling the water reservoir in the smaller ice maker until I started using this one. It holds a lot of water. Since the basket is bigger, I will fill up my cup and turn off the ice maker leaving the other 64+ ounces of ice to slowly melt, making it perfect soft, crunchy ice. Once I refill my cup, I start the ice maker again. Pros: Bigger basket Bigger water reservoir Easy to release water plug Cons The cons are the same with most countertop ice makers. The ice sticks together when it starts to melt. The noise level is about the same. The ice scoop isn't very big or sturdy. Overall, I'd recommend it. ... show more
