  • Wonderful Gas Fireplace - You will love it !
Color: Chestnut Oak
Duluth Forge Dual Fuel Vent Free Fireplace - 26,000 BTU, Remote Control, Chestnut Oak Finish Our gas fireplace was delivered 4 days ago. The delivery agent was courteous and careful with our fireplace and had us open the boxes and inspect it before he left. The fireplace was packaged very well. There was plenty of foam and wrapping used and there was no damage of any kind, nothing was bent and there wasn't even a scratch on any part of the wood or any of the painted surfaces and there were no missing parts. Pros: Assembly: assembly was easy. The wife and I were very meticulous and carefully laid out all of the parts and read the instructions thoroughly. Assembly start to finish took us about 3 hours. All of the parts fit together perfectly. It came with an allen wrench that fit all of the screws used to assemble the wooden case. The only other tool that was needed was a #2 phillips screw driver for the screws used to install the metal hood on the fireplace. The imitation logs are very easy to install, just follow the instructions. Setup: The stove comes setup to use Propane. We have Natural Gas and switching it over from LPG to NG is very easy, just follow the instructions carefully. Be sure not to over-tighten the included brass fitting that screws into the regulator as the regulator is aluminum and could be damaged. There is a black gasket on the brass fitting that will seal when snugged up tightly but not overly tight. Once it is completely assembled and in place and the insert inside of the wood case and the gas is hooked up, next came installing the included batteries in the igniter, the reciever and the remote. The igniter is the round knob on the left at the bottom, the batteries go underneath the knob. To install batteries in the reciever, remove the slider handle located inside the bottom of the fireplace by pulling it straight out, then remove the small cover underneath it - 4 batteries go inside, then put the cover back on then the slider handle. Follow the instructions carefully when programming the remote and it should work fine. The batteries install into the reciever in series, not parallel. Operation: Once the reciever and remote have been programmed you can light the pilot, then use the remote to light the fireplace. Below are a few notes on using the remote (1) The remote displays room temperature (2) There are two modes: (a) On / Off where the word "Temp" is displayed below the temperature on the remote (b) Thermostat - where the words "ROOM TEMP" are displayed on the remote (3) In Temp mode, the fireplace is either On or Off depending on which button you push on the remote (4) In Room Temp mode, use the SET button to set the temperature you want to achieve. When the room temperature is about 2 degrees below this set point the fireplace with come on. When it is about 2 degrees above this set point, the fireplace with go off. The fireplace is absolutely beautiful and can heat our entire 1200 sq. ft. home if we need it to. We are very pleased with this gas fireplace would would buy it again. CONS: None OTHER: When the stove is new, it puts out an odor when it's burning. This eventually burns off and the smell goes away. To burn ours in, we lit the fireplace, opened several windows throughout the house, ran a ceiling fan in the room where the fireplace is located, and placed a fan in a window close to the fireplace to carry the smell and excess heat outside, then let it burn for several hours each day until the odor dissapated. It took us 3 days. This is to be expected on this type of fireplace. ... show more

  • Great Looking Unit and Terrific Heat
Color: Chestnut Oak
I wasn't too sure about this item at first. It looks great, but when I looked at the seller's website for additional installation information, I discovered that it isn't guaranteed to work above 4500 ft, and I live at 7000 ft. After discussing the issue with the seller, I agreed to give it a try and, as it turns out, it works great. Even without a fan, which is an option, it easily heats my 600 sf room great. The instructions were clear, although there are a few details that were confusing. For example, the metal L brackets at the bottom front of the furnace. The instructions said to remove them, but I wasn't sure if they were supposed to be used to secure the furnace to the cabinet. So, I leftr them off. Also, the pictures on the website showed the furnace front frame and cabinet hole to be a perfect match. They aren't. So, do I slide the furnace in from the front or back? I decided to slide it in from the front so it wouldn't be pushed back into the cabinet when you use the igniter. Another minor note is the flame. The pictures on the website suggests that the flames should be yellow. This is not true. The flames should be blue with no more than yellow edges. There's a combustion problem if the flame is all yellow. Not withstanding those minor issues, the cabinet is well made, easy to assemble, and looks great. The only problem I had was the smell. It took three days of use before the smell generated by the heat on the furnace parts and cabinet dissipated. Be sure to keep your windows open until the smell is gone because it is really overwhelming. Once the smell was gone, the unit works perfectly and I couldn't be more pleased. This is a great alternative to the $2-$3 thousand vented models. ... show more

  • Fireplace is fine but remote and customer service SUCK
Color: Auburn Cherry
The remote control and receiver so called "learn function" is unacceptable. It will ABSOLUTELY NOT WORK PAST TWO FEET and only at the EXACT SAME HEIGHT as the receiver on the fireplace. Every year with brand new batteries and it's the same thing. I took the batteries out to reset and "learn the receiver and remote again and again and again and again.... you get the picture and it will not work past two feet. Now for their 800 number and non existing customer service, when you call their number a machine tells you go online for anything then hangs up. No option to talk to anyone or leave a message. actually, let me change from 2 stars to one right now!!! ... show more

  • Color too dark, Pros/Cons
Color: Heritage Cherry
I purchased this fireplace for my family room when my older one went out. PROS: Delivered before original delivery date. Delivery company was very accommodating and pleasant to deal with. 2- Easy directions for assembly. 3- does a great job of heating room that is 18' x 34'. CONS: Disappointing - Wood is very dark (much darker than shown) so wood working doesn't really show. Maybe it's because the back of the firebox is dark the flame is not very large and there doesn't seem to be anyway to adjust the flame. Would have exchanged it for something lighter or not purchased this particular one. ... show more
